Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a proper friendly traditional pub with local people, great atmosphere, excellent service & tasty food. I had the 12oz steak which was cooked perfectly served by a very helpful & friendly waitress. Definitely a dining highlite & worth the drive during our stay in lynton

I have always been sceptical of superb reviews but in the case of The Stag Hunters Hotel I can confirm they are correct. A long weekend with 2 rooms (mine had a balcony overlooking the beautiful garden). What a warm welcome from Richard and his family! Setting is perfect. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable. The food is excellent with Gluten Free options which I needed. Even the weather was fabulous. I would highly recommend.

We have been coming here for years, as well as many of the other guests. The hotel/pub is run by the Wyburn family. The hotel (dog friendly) is beautifully situated in a very quiet beautiful area next to a small river and has a beautiful garden. Many attractions are within easy reach.

Yet another fantastic stay with Richard,Wendy and the family!!! If you want a cosy, warm, friendly, belly full of good food and drink stay away then the Staghunters is for you!!!! In a lovely quiet valley with great walks. The staghunters are very dog friendly and don’t have lots of silly rules! Try the sticky toffee Christmas pudding it’s sooo good, you won’t get the recipe as it’s a family secret!!!! Once you visit you’ll return!!!!!

we stayed 5 nights at the Stag Hunters and were delighted by the warm welcome at this family owned and run hotel. excellent accommodation, great food and beer. Really enthusiastic, friendly service. Beautiful valley setting with lovely gardens at rear and by the river. Traditional, old world charm, don't expect cutting edge modern kit but everything very well organised and in good shape. We were cycling and its an ideal centre as long as you're happy climbing the hills. Good for access to Exmoor and lots of coastal locations, as well as the Doone valley

Myself, mum and dad - and Freddie the dog - enjoyed a 2 night stay in May. We have stayed at Staghunters a few times in the past. Well, what can I say. Beautifully clean rooms, one which had a balcony overlooking the immaculate garden. The full breakfast, which set you up well for the day and evening meals on both nights were delicious. It was so lovely to catch up with Richard, Wendy, Simon and James again. If you are looking for somewhere quiet to relax and recharge the batteries set in a beautiful location, then this is it. Thank you so much for the relaxing break and hope to return in the not too distant future. From Nicola, Pauline and Ken.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed with Richard and Wendy and we absolutely love the Stag Hunters Inn. We were very warmly welcomed on our arrival and even though our last visit was 5 years earlier Wendy and Simon remembered us which was lovely. Our room was amazing very spacious and clean with a stunning view of the gardens from our balcony. We enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the various birds on the feeders. The evening in the restaurant was lovely a relaxing friendly atmosphere and the food and service was absolutely amazing. The steak was perfect and exactly cooked to my liking. Breakfast in the morning was also fantastic the sausages and bacon are all so tasty I highly recommend a full English. The chef is amazing and the food is excellent 5 star. We booked another weekend in October and can not wait too visit again. Thank you Richard and Wendy their family and staff for looking after us and making our weekend so special. We look forward to seeing you all again soon. Stuart and Rachael x

We have just had a wonderful 5 day stay here. Richard, Wendy and all of the family and staff were extremely friendly, helpful, welcoming and cheery. The accommodation was excellent, comfortable and cosy, a home from home. Good honest well cooked and presented food. Overall an outstanding stay and we look forward to our next visit.

The Stag Hunters Inn, Brendon is always welcoming, peaceful and the location is beautiful. I used to visit the Inn back in the early 80’s as a child with my parents and always loved it, I have visited many times in recent years with my husband and we both love it just as much. Richard, Wendy and family are fantastic hosts, nothing is too much trouble. We have 2 dogs and they were made to feel just as welcome as we were! The food is hearty and tasty, just what’s needed after a day full of exploring the local area. We are looking forward to returning next year!

Hubby and I have just got back from a few days in Devon, staying at the Stag Hunters Inn. We have visited here before but not stayed. We stayed in room 14, which looks out onto the river Lyn and it was peaceful to sit at the window listening to the water flowing. The room was very comfortable, with a comfortable bed, plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe and a good sized bathroom. We had the dinner, bed & breakfast deal (two courses) which was very reasonable. The menu was good and varied and the food great, Exmoor ales on tap and good selection of wine. The breakfast served in the morning room overlooking the garden was lovely, cereal, yogurt, fruit, the option of the full English was very good, the staff were lovely, so helpful and friendly and attentive, but not overly. The Stag Hunters is a great base for visiting the stunning Exmoor National Park and its lovely towns and villages. There are a lot of people staying that have been before and some stay very regularly. We would love to go back and stay. We were made to feel very welcomed by Richard & Wendy and all of the family that work so well as a team to keep this great pub running. Throughout our stay, staff were wearing masks, tables etc sanitised between diners. Thank you for a lovely stay.
