Spent 3 nights in this beautiful part of England. Peaceful, with little more noise than the East Lynn river and the birdsong. The Staghunters Inn is a very homely, hospitable place run by the family. At the time of our trip staff shortages and COVID made the stay a bit different as the Inn was only open to residents.

The half board option was very good and superbly priced - including a great 2 course dinner and a very good breakfast. The on tap beer and cider is well kept and provides a great accompaniment to dinner.

The public rooms include a residents lounge and a delightful breakfast room. The rear garden is delightful. The bedroom we had was simple, cosy and comfortable. The en-suite bathroom had a very good shower in it.

WiFi was available in the bar and the lounge, and in some other rooms - however its limited coverage helped to make the stay even more peaceful. Dogs are welcomed in parts of the Inn.

The staff were friendly and helped top make our stay memorable. It was our first time at the Staghunters unlike most of the other guests, many of whom come back regularly, some several times a year.

Just got back from enjoying 7 days at the Stag Hunter a great hard working team keeping the bar / hotel running in these Covid times Fingers crossed soon to be relaxed .
We stayed on a BB &EM basis so happy we did , the Breakfast (full English ) really filled you up for the day and having it served in the Breakfast room overlooking the rear garden was a treat every morning watching the birds .
Evening meals from the special's board or from the menu were enough choice even though it was limited again due to Covid and lack of extra staff .
Good whole hearted honest food and a nice pint of Exmoor Ale or the cloudy Cider went down well .
Wendy, Richard, Simon & James & everyone made us so welcome it was joy to stay at the Stag Hunter .
Our room was very clean and tidy overlooking the river ( front view) with enough room to move about .
Room was serviced every day and tea/ coffee/ milk replenished
TV , kettle , coffee and tea & a nice hot shower.
WIFI only worked down stairs in bar area and sitting room & no mobile phone reception at all throughout .
So if you wanted to keep in touch or use your mobile you will need to get back up to the A39 for reception .
If your not a dog lover I wouldn't advise you to stay here , Dogs like humans are made very welcome here .
We knew this before we booked even though we don't have a dog , we have been here many times before but only to drink or eat never stayed .
All I can say is we loved our 7 days am sure if you choose to stay here you will also.
We did hear the story about reported ghosts roaming the building but luckily we never came across them .

Hubby and I have just got back from a few days in Devon, staying at the Stag Hunters Inn. We have visited here before but not stayed. We stayed in room 14, which looks out onto the river Lyn and it was peaceful to sit at the window listening to the water flowing. The room was very comfortable, with a comfortable bed, plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe and a good sized bathroom. We had the dinner, bed & breakfast deal (two courses) which was very reasonable. The menu was good and varied and the food great, Exmoor ales on tap and good selection of wine. The breakfast served in the morning room overlooking the garden was lovely, cereal, yogurt, fruit, the option of the full English was very good, the staff were lovely, so helpful and friendly and attentive, but not overly. The Stag Hunters is a great base for visiting the stunning Exmoor National Park and its lovely towns and villages. There are a lot of people staying that have been before and some stay very regularly. We would love to go back and stay. We were made to feel very welcomed by Richard & Wendy and all of the family that work so well as a team to keep this great pub running. Throughout our stay, staff were wearing masks, tables etc sanitised between diners. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We have been staying at the Stag Hunters for many yrs now, the Woburn Family never fail to make the visit a totally enjoyable one, nothing being too much trouble. The Hotel is set in the most beautiful location, a gem for walkers as a base to explore Exmoor, an oasis of calm for those seeking a peaceful relaxing location. Excellent home cooked food, great selection of local ales, nice character rooms some with balconies overlooking beautiful grounds.
Given current circumstances all staff went out of their way to ensure everyone’s safety following strict the social distancing and hygiene protocols, but still maintaining a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
We will of course return.

Firstly it’s Upsetting to see the latest (August 2020) negative review for this establishment, my husband actually witnessed this embarrassing scene, the two couples involved forgot to mention how they were verbally abusive to staff who were doing their upmost to implement strict Covid restrictions in the bar area, so when they were asked politely to move out of the one way system they then decided the beer was ‘crap’ although the guy managed three more gulps before storming out! I am surprised their review has even been published because it is not a true reflection of this hotel they weren’t even guests they were only passing by and visited the bar!

We had a lovely 2 night break mid August and have recently returned home from another last minute getaway at this hotel. Staff are attentive , friendly and welcoming, there is a varied food menu (the curry is delicious) and there is absolutely nothing to complain about with regards to the range of beverages on offer.
Fully accommodating of our four legged friends, they are very much treated as guests themselves! Can’t wait to come back!

Myself, mum and dad - and Freddie the dog - enjoyed a 2 night stay in May. We have stayed at Staghunters a few times in the past. Well, what can I say. Beautifully clean rooms, one which had a balcony overlooking the immaculate garden.
The full breakfast, which set you up well for the day and evening meals on both nights were delicious. It was so lovely to catch up with Richard, Wendy, Simon and James again. If you are looking for somewhere quiet to relax and recharge the batteries set in a beautiful location, then this is it. Thank you so much for the relaxing break and hope to return in the not too distant future. From Nicola, Pauline and Ken.

Another wonderful weekend. We could not wait to get away from the chaos elsewhere. Wendy, Richard, Simon and the rest of their staff could not have made us feel more comfortable and unstressed. We felt safe and everyone working there was relaxed and the humour flowed. Yes there were changes to our usual visits but all were necessary and none impacted on our visit. The service is second to none. The area is beautiful in every season that we just keep wanting to return as often as we can. It is definitely great value if you book the dinner, bed and breakfast too. Thank you to everyone. Hopefully it won't be too long until we can return and the Venison and the home made faggots will be back on the menu!!!

we stayed 5 nights at the Stag Hunters and were delighted by the warm welcome at this family owned and run hotel. excellent accommodation, great food and beer. Really enthusiastic, friendly service. Beautiful valley setting with lovely gardens at rear and by the river. Traditional, old world charm, don't expect cutting edge modern kit but everything very well organised and in good shape. We were cycling and its an ideal centre as long as you're happy climbing the hills. Good for access to Exmoor and lots of coastal locations, as well as the Doone valley

Ordered takeaway meals for 5 people Thursday afternoon (22/10/20). Wife and daughter walked from nearby Rockford to collect that evening. 2 x vegetable curry, 1 x chicken curry, 1 x Coronation chicken salad & cod, chips and peas. All very tasty, large portions and was still hot enough to eat after 15 min walk back! Thanks for the great service.

We came here for lunch on Monday 9 December and fell in love with such a warm and cosy traditional Inn deep in the heart of Exmoor's beautiful Lynn Valley. But what makes this place special is the incredible welcome we received from Simon and his Mum. We honestly felt like family when we left! It’s so rare to come across people with such a natural gift of hospitality. The food was great as well and very reasonably priced. It will become an absolute must for a meal on our next trip to Exmoor. Hilary and Paul from Hanslope near Milton Keynes
