This really is a hidden gem on the North Devon Coast. We had a superb room (Oak) with a bay window and great views over the garden and out in to Heddon Valley and on toward Exmoor. We had a big and impressive half-canopy bed and a very good ensuite shower room. Our hosts, Mark and Pat could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We were made to feel very welcome, if not spoiled (and that included our dog, who enjoyed her stay and her extra treats a lot!). Breakfasts were lovely and there is a well stocked bar for the evening. We visited in October, and there was a lovely real fire in the bar. There is plenty to do in the local area, including woodland and coastal walking, which you can do right from the door of the hotel. There are also some very good pubs locally for evening meals. At night, the dark skies above the hotel are marvellous. If you are going to North Devon, then you have to stay here.

We adored our stay at Heddon’s Gate Hotel. We were made to feel so welcome by Pat & Mark. Nothing was too much trouble, even with the Covid restrictions. Spotlessly clean & comfortable rooms with great bath & shower The breakfasts were superb, home cooked by Mark & the vegetarian was also delicious We loved sitting in the bar with fire on having drinks before & after dinner Our 2 mad Boxers were also very welcomed!! There’s nothing bad to say about this wonderful gem We can’t wait to go back & get spoilt again

Loved this hotel - it's certainly a hotel worth visiting for the views and stunning location alone. My room was also extremely spacious, well furnished and very comfortable - I slept like a log! The hotel hosts are extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area and plethora of walks. They even packed me a piece of cake to take with me on my next stage of the South West Coast Path. I would very much like to return to this lovely, friendly hotel in its beautiful and unique location.

Splendid location, lovely people, good breakfast, sensible and rigorous Covid measures. Easy walking distance to some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in England. Clean, spacious rooms. Recommended.

We managed to snaffle a last-minute room at Heddon’s Gate whilst enjoying a few fabulous sun-kissed days touring and walking Devon and Cornwall. Having booked the rather smaller ‘Fig’ room, our expectations were not particularly high, at least for the room. So, we were simply amazed with our experience, starting from the moment we arrived, welcomed by Mark and Pat, feted with Tea and Cake on the expansive terrace with far-reaching views, before enjoying our bright, comfortable and cheerful room with its uplifting aspect across the verdant Heddon valley. Breakfast was yummy and relaxed. The sundowners were a joy, as was a delicious dinner in the highly-recommended Fox & Goose. Mark and Pat make even the most exposed Covid candidates relaxed. We’d definitely return, and felt we had discovered an affordable jewel that the charming owners have quietly polished.
