I’ve been attending an Alpha Painting holiday, at the Hotel, which ended today. The position of the Hotel, and the grounds, are excellent.Beautiful views, of the Barle Valley, excellent for walking and sightseeing. The options for painting, in nearby locations are plentiful. The owner, Andrew and his wife, Louise, and their team, including Tina, Ryan and Sue, not forgetting the Excellent Chef, are So attentive and welcoming. Our group, occupied the whole Hotel, except one self catering cottage. Andrew shares his knowledge, love and passion with guests, of the local area, to explore, and get the Best from their stay. There is a very well-stocked bar, comprehensive breakfast menu, and varied dinner menu. Thank you All.

As a walking group of 12 we were the only residents at the hotel, a former 17thC hunting lodge situated in lovely location...walkers' paradise. It was homely & comfy and most of us had gorgeous room views. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Andrew, the proprietor, is very knowledgeable on areas around Exmoor and led us on walks with his two dogs. Food at hotel was so, so good and packed lunches were provided. To top it all, we had glorious weather! To go to shops, restaurants or towns one needs a car but we came for the walks.

Part of a walking group, we stayed at Simonsbath. Friendly staff who made us so welcome. Fantastic food. Cosy atmosphere. Well equipped bedroom, with gorgeous views. Andrew, the proprietor, was so knowledgeable about the areas where we walked and the local history and backgrounds of various local people. Simonsbath is a haven for keen ramblers and in the middle of nowhere, so a car is needed to explore the beautiful surroundings. Certainly, worth another visit to explore further and go on different walks. highly recommended

+1
Stayed here in March 2022 with some friends from a walking group. As we had booked more than 6 rooms we were able to have a ‘house party’. This meant we had exclusive use of the hotel, with no other guests. We had a wonderful time. Andrew the proprietor and all the staff are very helpful and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. Andrew is very knowledgeable about Exmoor and advises on local walks etc, he is also an excellent host in the bar and enjoys being a ‘quizmaster’ after dinner. The rooms are comfortable with a good choice of teas and coffees, plus biscuits and it is very quiet with no road noise. The lounge and bar/library are both cosy with leather sofas and a real fire. Views from the bedrooms are lovely. However, there is not much in Simonsbath itself except lovely views and walks, so for shops and restaurants etc you will need to travel. Therefore I recommend that you take advantage of their wonderful restaurant, the food is sublime and the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast rate is very reasonable. There is an excellent choice for breakfast. At the moment due to Covid, it is table service only and you order your breakfast choices the night before and dinner choices at breakfast. They also organise painting holidays.Highly recommended.
