Nestled in a tranquil setting, Lympstone Manor is lauded for its stunning views and serene atmosphere that invite relaxation. Guests have called out the luxurious amenities and high-quality dining, with rooms that are well-furnished, though some find them small and not quite providing value for money.
While the service generally receives compliments for being attentive, instances of slow service have been noted. Cleanliness is a strong suit, with the hotel's grounds and rooms maintained to a high standard, contributing to the overall inviting and comfortable ambiance.

Detailed Reviews
There is a consistent and authentic feel of quality here, primarily because of the outstanding staff. Without fail they are friendly and professional. The location is close to idyllic, views are maximised by the orientation of rooms and communal spaces.
We visited during the 'outlier' hot spell and therefore the room was warm - there's no airflow through, its important to have in mind how infrequent 35 degrees is in England. As good as the staff are, they can't overcome nature.
Food is of high quality, produced with extreme care and much thought. Service is taken at a sedate pace, we had aperitifs at 7 and finished a la carte just before 10. I can't describe that as a criticism, but finishing inside 2 hours would have suited us better to enjoy the evening after dinner.
The room layout and finish is excellent, morning coffee delivered with the paper is a lovely touch and helped us maximise the sun trap veranda. Rooms are being serviced twice daily, which is not universal in the current circumstances and again added a touch of quality to the experience.

Well, we thought getting through the first lockdown required an indulgent celebration. Oh, and my wife's Birthday!
That was our excuse on this occasion but have stayed several times because of the consistency/quality in terms of accommodation, cuisine, and service.
During our 4 days we believe we experienced every menu and course on offer and were not disappointed with any. In fact we are confident that the balance of flavours, textures, and creativity in every course was even greater than on previous visits and we are certain that Michelin inspectors attending now would have no difficulty in awarding a second star - at least!
It was particularly reassuring to note in these times that the staff maintained such high standards of hygiene/safety and thought the black masks smart and appropriate, and the obviously disposable gloves were a further reassurance!
We never cease to appreciate the location both in terms of the unique and unforgettable views from the hotel/grounds, and then, just beyond the vineyard the ready access to the estuary trails and a pleasant easy walk into Exmouth in one direction, or Lympstone - Topsham etc in the other.

My wife and I stopped over for one night on our way to Cornwall specifically so that we could eat in the restaurant. We booked a deluxe estuary view room. Due to the extra time required to prepare rooms due to Covid, we were requested to arrive an hour later than the usually advertised arrival time.
As requested we arrived at the amended time only to be told that our room wasn't quite ready. We were ushered through to either the lounge or an outside table along with what I imagined was everyone else arriving that day to wait. We were offered refreshments and surprisingly the tea and coffee we consumed were billed despite the delay being caused by the Hotel's inefficiency. If they are unable to prepare the rooms by the time they ask you to attend, why don't they delay the arrival time or at least make up for their unprofessional service by giving free teas or coffees? After waiting around for nearly another hour we were shown our room. The room was far smaller than we had expected and certainly not worth the cost, particularly when comparing it with other hotels under the Relais and Chateau banner in the UK such as Andrew Brownsword hotels who provide bigger rooms of similar quality at much lower prices. One of the lights adjacent to the bed did not work which shows a lack of care with daily checks and maintenance issues. The flush in the bathroom also proved inadequate in its job of flushing away the contents in the bowl. We ended up using a waste bin filled with water to complete the exercise. None of these are expected in a five star hotel.
Aside from these irritations, the hotel is in a beautiful setting with stylish well maintained grounds. The rooms in the hotel are well appointed and the staff were polite, friendly and exceptionally helpful.
We enjoyed the experience but won't be repeating it.

Visited in July during the first few weeks of hotel reopening and the staff were coping very well.
Friendly helpful staff. Great location overlooking the Exe estuary, and as time goes on the gardens and landscaping will mature. Interestingly for a relatively new refurbishment no pool or spa.
However the rooms really weren’t great. We were in a ground floor estuary suite. Visited in July during the first few weeks of hotel reopening and the staff were coping very well.
Friendly helpful staff. Great location overlooking the Exe estuary, and as time goes on the gardens and landscaping will mature. Interesting for a relatively new refurbishment no pool or spa.
However the rooms really weren’t great. We were in a ground floor estuary suite. While just a matter of taste the room felt over decorated and heavy with no personality or style. Plastic battery operated candles in the faux fireplace.
Our room had particular noise issues from the room above - with footsteps being clearly heard and waste water noise down through our room. All a nuisance but most difficult was the total lack of adequate ventilation. The room is shoe box shaped with French windows being the only exterior opening and no a/c. Not great on the ground floor to have to leave the french windows open all night.
To be completely transparent we complained about the lack of ventilation and noise and the manager reduced the room rate by half.
Minor annoyances were the complex and user unfriendly lighting in the room. Not only a bright and permanent Green emergency light in the ceiling but also a bedside usb red light. The bed light switches were out of reach once in bed. The lighting in the bathroom was also poor.
The sink was so misplaced that that even stretching forward over it meant you missed most of time when brushing teeth. The toilet flush was also exceptionally poor.
One day we found that our towels had been replaced by new but still damp towels. No one seemed to think it was there job to remove tea or drinks trays which just sat outside all day.
Hopefully the management of housekeeping will settle and changes will be made to rooms to allow for more ventilation.
The food was excellent - see my separate review.

The rooms are not 5 star at all. There were dirty, stained cushions on our bed, our shower blocked and flooded the bathroom, the curtains had dirty marks on them, the windows hadn’t been cleaned - none of this filled me with confidence at a time where cleanliness and hygiene are paramount. I communicated my concerns to reception and gave them an opportunity to fix things but they did not. For the money you pay for the room, you shouldn’t have to ask twice for dirty stained cushions not to be put back on your bed. The room felt really tired but the hotel is only 3 years old which, to me, seems like maintenance and housekeeping aren’t what they should be. We were really excited by this place but hugely disappointed by the quality and cleanliness of the room. We won’t be returning.

Wow the views from this hotel are amazing of the estuary, the gardens are fantastic lovely to be able to walk through the vineyard too, beautiful sculptures to view and walk around in the gardens. However you do need your mobile phone to scan if you want to read about the sculptures.
We arrived around lunch time so it was obviously busy getting guests served for lunch, our room wasn’t ready so they directed us to the bar/lounges to get a drink/bar snack. We choose to sit at a table on the terrace which is lovely, the member of staff said someone would serve us shortly, my husband went to move the car to the car park, by the time he got back I hadn’t been given a menu. However someone soon came along and they explained due to Covid the lamented cards they gave us had to be scanned by our mobile phone and the list of drinks would show up which they did, and an order was taken for drinks. We scanned the bar food menu after that, it took us a little while to decide. We had a lovely lunch I had a egg sandwich and my husband had a salmon salad. After lunch our room was ready and we were taken to the Woodpecker suite, in the garden was a outside bath which was interesting. The room was beautiful with another bath in the bedroom, also a separate toilet and shower, with a washbasin in the room. We had a Dyson fan in the room, which was noisy so we turned it off. We got ready for dinner and went for a pre dinner drink and to look at the dinner menu. Again you had to scan these menus on your phone. Drinks were ordered and we looked at the food which were two different tasting menus or a la carte, but we were asked if we had any allergies or likes and disliked of foods, we were told that we both had to have the tasting menu or to look at the a la carte. My husband would have liked to try the tasting menu but I didn’t, so we both looked at the a la carte which consisted of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. We had the tuna and scallop Mille feuille which was delicious, my husband had the lobster and I had the duck which again was delicious. I would have preferred some more vegetables. We had to decided on our desserts when we ordered our main meal, we both had the strawberry parfait which was lovely. The sommelier was helpful with the wines. It was a 22 page list they gave my husband an iPad to see better than his phone. I felt a little rushed with the wine but there was so much choice. The sommelier preferred to ask what you liked and recommend something. I didn’t like the Chablis which was chosen but my husband did. I enjoyed my glass of French Pinot Noir which was recommended and we had a glass of Hungarian dessert wine which was very pleasant. We had coffee in the lounge.
The downside of our room was there was no window to open only the outside door, which we didn’t want to do, there was no air conditioning only the Dyson noisy fan which turned itself off in the night. Most of all we would have like a window to open to let in some fresh air especially in the Covid situation. If it had been a very hot night we would have struggled. Breakfast was very good which we enjoyed, the staff were very helpful and we were used to scanning the menu by this time.
Would I recommend it? I would as it was a great experience but I wouldn’t rush back. The staff wore masks but the guests didn’t have to.

Fabulous weekend at Lympstone, the hotel is truly breathtaking made all the more enjoyable with the fantastic weather that suddenly arrived over the bank holiday weekend
We were fortunate to have managed to get in on a cancellation and our room was absolutely beautiful with a stunning terrace overlooking the estuary
The room was immaculate on our arrival and the gin tray was a lovely touch! The staff accommodated every request including a huge ice bucket every day for us to enjoy our own special drinks on our private terrace
The room service food was superb, with really high quality ingredients and a perfect menu choice with really prompt attentive service
Service was fabulous in the morning with the pre breakfast delivery of espresso, freshly squeezed juice and the daily newspapers
We enjoyed breakfast each morning which was superbly presented in the beautiful dining rooms
We are hoping to find a gap in the bookings which are full again for July, if there is another cancellation and would really like to enjoy the Michelin star dining experience
We really enjoyed a long afternoon lunch at Mickey’s Beach restaurant , where we had fabulous sea food and really high quality service and attention, we are looking forward to visiting there again.
The walk from the hotel into Exmouth was particularly enjoyable through the beautiful grounds of the hotel and onto the most stunning walkway beside the famous railway along the coastline. I particularly enjoyed the swing at the bottom of the gardens!

A celebration trip for my husband and I on our 25th wedding anniversary after cancelling Santorini due to COVID.
Not heard of the hotel before so did a lot of reading before booking and reviews seemed favourable, so thought we would book and stayed two nights in the Woodpecker Master Suite.
5/5 for the hospitality and location, all the staff were so courteous and helpful, nothing was too much trouble during our stay. Stunning views over the hotels vineyard to the estuary and River Exe, with a pretty sunset on our first night.
There were Hunters wellies to borrow if need be at the front door and sculptures doted around the grounds and a balance of just the right atmosphere throughout the hotel.
5/5 for dining, we had a light bite meal in the lounge first night, Wild mushroom soup to start, gorgeous, creamy taste.
Fish goujons, fries, peas and tartare sauce, light and beautifully cooked.
Duck terrine and salad was just unbelievably smooth and tasty
Room service for cooked breakfast both mornings, served on time and hot with a good choice on menu completed the night before.
Second night the eight course Signature tasting menu, was just an experience we will never forget, the food was excellent, unbelievably presented and introduced by the waiting staff.
Favourite courses for me was the Venison and the White Chocolate Candle, husbands was the Cod course and both sweet courses (having a sweet tooth, no surprise)
We complimented this with the selected wines to each course, again introduced by an extremely knowledgeable lovely wine waiter. (Didn’t get his name, sorry)
Coffee/tea and Petit Fours were served back in the lounge with a special Happy Anniversary message written in chocolate on the serving plate.
4/5 for room. The room was lovely, with a terrace entrance having a fire pit and soak tub, with views to die for! It was beautifully decorated in a restful hue of colours, but not quite worth the price point it is charged at. The lock on the front door was very difficult to use, the lock on the toilet door did not connect properly either. Lighting not great for putting on make up. The tea and coffee was not replenished on the first day and the room service menu had also not been replaced after using it on the first night for the breakfast order and the breakfast tray was left and not collected from outside the room all day until we reminded them as we went for our evening meal. The Gin tray was a nice touch and replenished too🙂
King size bed with linen was luxurious and so to were
fluffy towels and bathrobes.
We would definitely stay again at Lympstone Manor, but just maybe not in the same room.
Thank you for a very memorable stay

This was a birthday celebration for my wife. I opted a for a couple special occasion package to include suited room, champagne, flowers and chocolates, a glass of bubbly before dinner, the tasting menu and breakfast. We found that the room had a few niggles, then they 'forgot' that we had opted for the package and offered us a priced drinks menu for pre-dinner drinks even tough we had said who were were and mentioned that we had opted for the package, then we found the 'fish & seafood' tasting menu quite samey, in the end it was difficult to distinguish between dishes, mostly beurre blanc, foams & purees, it was crying out for some crunch, texture and different flavours ... On the upside we had the wine flight which was excellent with a fantastic sommelier - and the breakfast was delicious. All in all for the price he charges (in excess of £1000) we felt that this was not value for money. Worst still, we wrote a note to air our grievances but have had no response whatsoever ... poor do ...

We were very excited to return after a short stay a couple of years ago. Perhaps our expectations were too high or memories rose tinted?
The good
The rooms are beautiful and the setting perfect. It is such an idyll and the perfect place to relax and unwind. The staff are warm and welcoming. The courtesy bikes and door step walks encourage you to enjoy the outdoors. The food is very good and they are very helpful suggesting local restaurants to try.
The niggles
Breakfast -pot luck when you'll be served so dont be in a rush. We learnt to get there pre 8.30 to avoid breakfast taking over 1.5 hours. 2 days we had a full pastry basket, 2 days we had crossiants and pain au chocolat missed. Everyday I ordered plain yogurt with fresh fruit compote. 2 days I had a perfect thick yogurt with spiced apple compote . 2 days I had a branded yogurt with pre mixed fruit. The pot luck continued with pre breakfast drinks. Ordered a cafetiere twice we got it and twice we received cappuccinoss when we take our coffee black.
Dinner - We chose the premium wine flight to accompany dinner and was assured we didnt need to note the wines we enjoyed as we'd be sent the list. 5 weeks later, we're still waiting. We chose tap to accompany the meal, mid way through this was switched to sparkling water which neither of us drink and we had to discuss the charge for it being removed. I dislike egg on it's own such as egg yolk ravioli. This was extended for me to have caviar excluded from 1 dish but not another. I love caviar, taste and texture is far removed from chicken egg.
We had varied weather during our stay. The rooms have no aircon so prepare for a sticky night if it's hot. The fireplace has instructions which fail to mention step 1 - you need to ask reception to provide the lighter fluid.
The niggles are petty and small but for a premium price, and after a previous faultless first stay, we left a bit deflated. What was our number 1 hotel has slipped down the rankings.

Yes we do offer a Vegetarian menu and also a Vegetarian tasting menu as a standard and are also very happy to offer bespoke menus to accommodate most dietary needs with some notice.
Dear Jane, we have two dog friendly bedrooms which can be accessed by their own entrance and 28 acres of garden for them to explore, along with superb coastal walks on our doorstep, we do ask that our four legged friends do not venture into the main hotel however. Kindest Regards
