Nestled close to the beach and town, Devoncourt Resort & Apartments captivates guests with its tranquil garden views and convenient location accessible without a car. While some guests consider the hotel a good value with satisfactory offerings, others feel it's not worth the expense, citing quality concerns. The staff, known for their attentive service, are frequently commended by visitors. Amenities such as swimming pools and leisure facilities are appreciated, though there's a consensus that updates are needed. The peaceful atmosphere is a highlight, despite dated decor and occasional cleanliness oversights in the rooms.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time in our 5 night stay.

Without argument the property requires a serious investment of capital if it is to remain a viable hospitality concern. I understand the property on the market.
What was also clear is The Devoncourt has a community presence, as we witnessed many locals either meeting or using the leisure facilities.

What made The Devoncourt work during our stay in our view is the staff. We did not meet one staff member who did not help us in some way. It is clear staff multi task around the property, enriching their skill set and giving a better understanding how to help customers.

The leisure facilities were fine for our purpose. The outdoor pool is a picture setting.

The grounds are evidently well tended to by the grounds staff.

The bar staff were very friendly. Connor and James in particular made for good company and service.

The food was good overall. Breakfast offerings absolutely fine with friendly team.
Bar meals were also good, as was the afternoon tea.

Our 2nd floor 2 bedroom apartment was fine. Everything worked and was clean.
The view from our room across the gardens to the sea was great.

Staff of mention in particular in our stay that we interacted directly with the most were Miah and Charlotte on Reception, and Connor and James on the bar. Plus the breakfast team.

Thank you once again for caring for us.

And of course the weather helped.

Another few days at the Devoncourt. Its location and wonderful views of the sea and lovely gardens never cease to please.

Rooms are larger than average and many have kitchenette facilities too. The decor is rather dated - still original kitchen units and bathrooms from the mid eighties when the hotel was marketed as a timeshare resort. However, it is well equipped, clean and comfortable.

Increased hygiene and safety procedures make guests feel safe in these difficult times. Masks are compulsory in public areas, a wall-mounted thermometer is in Reception and there are hand sanitizers dotted around the hotel.

The bar, restaurant and sun lounge are all arranged to give plenty of space for eating and drinking and there are screens at the bar as well as at Reception. Breakfast is excellent, freshly cooked and predominantly table service. The Brasserie is open in the evenings and snacks can be served in the bar.

All in all, an excellent place for a staycation with welcoming, polite staff. Excellent value for money.

Unfortunately, the indoor pool, gym and leisure suite remain closed but the outdoor pool is open if you're feeling brave (22*).

A review is definitely what you have done and, as it is so positive, we are really pleased with it. It's almost like reading a Tourist Board review of old. Comprehensive with many of the details covered. Thank you! The Devoncourt was indeed a Timeshare property and has many of the facilities that were available in each of the apartments then- still in situ. Lots of our guests find that having a small kitchenette a blessing and having a fridge in most rooms is ideal for the keeping the milk cold for their coffees and teas or, of course, something possibly cold and fizzy for a later libation? Another big shout out for the friendliness of the staff who will welcome all at any time, very much appreciated. Kindest regards Andrew Stoneman

I have been staying at the Devoncourt hotel with my little boy and have to say they have done extremely well in their safety measures for reopening. The restaurant has been extended into the sun lounge which has allowed them to keep a good distance between tables. The views from the sun lounge are Stunning overlooking the gardens and the beach so its perfect for an evening meal or afternoon tea. They have a one way system in and out of the restaurant and staff are wearing visors. The bar and reception have plastic shields in place and there are wall thermometers that can be used on entering the hotel to check temperature. The restaurant also have these. Lots of hand sanitizer stations are around. They seem to have done all they can to keep our safety their priority.

The staff are super friendly and do all they can to accommodate if there is anything I need. they make such an effort with my little boy and always have him laughing! There is a very safe and relaxed feeling here and as an anxious person this has been perfect for me.

The hotel has loads to do. There is a tennis court, golf and croquet course, snooker room, indoor and outdoor pool, gym, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. They also have a salon! (I would recommend checking what facilities are open as some may be closed due to Covid) Exmouth beach is also right behind the hotel and its an amazing beach with loads to do.

The food is always good quality - especially the Carvery which is by far the best around! The meat is cooked to perfection and they do a really good cauliflower cheese!

Highly recommend coming here to stay or even to visit the restaurant and take in the views.

Wow! And thank you so much much for such a heartfelt review. It is lovely to see that all the safety procedures we have put in place are looked at in such a positive light. I know I personally visited a relation recently and checked out several restaurants to eat at in the area where they lived and I went for the one that had a customer review, on TripAdvisor, who pointed out how safe they felt- so it does show that, like the cleaning procedures that we have in place here at the Devoncourt, it does make us feel at ease. Another mention for the friendly staff and the facilities that are out in the open air and enjoyed so much by all guests, the young and the young at heart! Lovely to be able to have looked after you. With thanks and regards Andrew Stoneman

We are a family of 4 who have just spent a week in an apartment which is so run down that in our opinion it really shouldn’t be being leased to people until it has a complete revamp.

We can deal with some old fashioned decor but in this suite the artex is coming off the ceiling, we had an outside doormat to cover the carpet where it was down to the threads, the bed and rusty sofa bed felt like they were ready to break.... the pictures included say it all really.

When we arrived we were really disappointed given all the good reviews on here. For the sake of being able to enjoy our holiday, we didn’t kick up a stink about the more significant issues with the room because it was obvious these weren’t things that could be fixed within 7 days. Instead we told reception about our kettle that either needed cleaned or replaced, the duvet for the sofa bed which was too small, and requested a lamp so that we didn’t need to be in either full light or pitch black, and they dealt with two out of three of these.

On checking out, they had initially overcharged us by about £50 for breakfasts, and when we fed back about the state of the room they replied that we should have told them at the start of our stay and they would have fixed it, however it is clear that whilst the room may have been given a bit of a deeper clean, they couldn’t replaster, fit new bathroom suites and kitchens, and relay carpets within a week.

On the plus side, the outside of the hotel was very well maintained, and the view from our room was really pretty (as long as you didn’t look out the windows covered in bird poo, not sure when these were last cleaned but it was not during the 7 days we were there). Being able to enjoy the gardens as well as the outdoor facilities was the saving grace for our stay here.

This resort is in severe need of investment and refurbishment and until it gets that I would not recommend anyone to come and stay here.

'Dear Mrs_odonn' We do always appreciate the fact that anyone can put forward a review and, if they are less than complimentary, well they are all valid opinions. Everyone has an expectation and, if unmet then can lead to an unfavourable review or an unhappy holiday, especially with the children in tow! We like to say that yours are your personal opinions and that everyone’s expectations are different. We like to think that the room itself represents only a 'part' of the stay, with the meals, views and facilities making up some others. Certainly the staff have been pointed out as a real plus point here on Trip Advisor and often are the makings of a good holiday. You have not mentioned them and so I hope they were another of the plus points that you highlighted and helped you enjoy your stay for 7 nights. The room itself is earmarked for refurb, as you clearly attest, though there are many positives. and there were many pictures that you could have shown, of the views, the gardens and the facilities, which we agree with you, are amazing. Thank you again as, with all reviews, they are all taken seriously and hope that given that you now know our positives there are enough to warrant a return to a room that meets your expectation better. Regards Andrew Stoneman

Another lovely stay at the Devoncourt hotel this week. We were very impressed by the social distancing set out, hand sanatizer points all round the building and face masks worn by all the staff which made us feel very safe. We didn’t fancy a busy beach so the lovely outdoor pool was a great option for us to use instead. The kitchen in our suite meant we didn’t need to eat out every night too, great bonus to have.

Thanks for a great break, it was well needed.

Thank you so much for the thanks on the social distancing and it is good to know that we have been applauded for the hard work and efforts that went into creating the safe environment. The beach over the weekend was particularly well attended and I can understand your hesitance on strolling along the many others but I did notice many of the shore side shops had queues that were attempting to social distance and several had masks on so I think the message is getting through to the populace. Thank you very much and hope we see you again very soon. Regards Andrew Stoneman

We stayed in the Devoncourt hotel for three nights, and it was great. The facilities were excellent - having use of the jacuzzi, swimming pool and tennis courts included in the price was really appreciated.

The rooms were clean, with all the amenities we needed, and the sea view from the balcony was wonderful. Staff on the front desk, and in the bar and restaurant were very welcoming and accomodating. The breakfast options were good too, catering for vegetarians, with cooked breakfasts as well as fruit/pastries/juices etc. on offer.

The location of the hotel is excellent - just a short walk through the lovely gardens and you come to a gate which takes you out within a couple minutes walk of the beach. The hotel is approximately a fifteen minute walk away from central Exmouth, meaning we could walk into town and back every evening. The hotel is also situated at the start of the Jurassic Coast walking trail, so is an ideal location for walkers!

Overall, we really couldn't have asked for more from this hotel - for a very reasonable price, it gave us a lovely stay, with plentiful facilities and a great room. We will definitely be recommending! Thanks :D

What a lovely over night stay we have staff are excellent and friendly. Service was great. We booked a double room and when we arrived we were given a suite double bedroom lounge and kitchenette all for £56 and we even had a sea view. The restaurant was fully book but we had a bar meal which was very generous portions. Went for a walk along the front even though it was blowing a hooley. Will definitely be returning for another visit.

It is a wonderful venue for exploring the fantastic Devon coast whatever the weather. Exmouth, when the weather is 'dramatic', is an absolute picture and makes for a dramatic photo. I know the food can really set you up for the day be it a hearty breakfast or a warming Bar Snack - my favourite is our Ham, Egg and Chips with a Pint of Tribute but, of course, I don't drink whilst on duty so reserve that treat for my days off! Lovely to have had you stay and hope you return to us again soon. Regards Andrew Stoneman

Stayed just the 1 night in this lovely hotel. It’s a traditional old typically English seaside hotel, very dated, no frills but the charm and location make up for everything lacking. Staff were all lovely, breakfast was beautifully cooked, served on hot plates, temperature taken before entering the restaurant, all social distancing requirements adhered to. Beautiful gardens in the grounds which overlook the sea, lovely outside seating area, room was on lower ground floor, quite hot in there as only doors to a small balcony with no other windows, was a small studio as had a kitchen area and sofa, tired but clean and added to this hotels charm. Will definitely return, fab.u.lous +++

Took a few days out midweek to stay at Devoncourt. We had booked a double room but were upgraded to a 2 bed suite. Great sea views & a small balcony to look out over the immaculately kept gardens which were lit at night. The lone gardener has done an excellent job.
The suite itself was roomy with a 3 piece suite, double & twin beds with a bed settee. TV with a good selection of channels both free & subscription. Beds were firm with good selection of pillows & extra blankets if needed. With hob microwave fridge & other kitchen utensils you could easily cook your own food if so inclined. We were on the 2nd floor so the water pressure for the shower & toilet was fairly poor but adequate. There were things wrong with the suite with a large stain on the carpet floor in the living room & a cracked bath panel but this is a very old building & must be incredibly hard to maintain to a high standard. For the price we paid these were but minor quibbles.
This is not a new all singing European hotel so should never be compared to one. A lot of buildings in Exmouth are Victorian or earlier with plenty of blue plaques of semi famous people who resided in the town. Big old concrete & stone monoliths with heavy thick set walls dot the Exmouth landscape, of which Devoncourt is but one.
The restaurant & bar both give excellent service & value for money with their breakfast & winter warmer deals. Thoroughly recommend the beef stew & dumplings. The facilities that were free included a 10m swimming pool,a hot jacuzzi & steam room. None were overly busy. The gym was also great fun. All highly recommended. T Exmouth beach is 5 mins away & the town 15. A lovely walk on the promenade even in inclement weather.
Pros : price, facilities, location, food. Cons : the heating- way too hot, turn it down, hotter than a care home !

Just completed a great week's bed and breakfast break at the Devoncourt Resort. We were upgraded to a one bedroom apartment for this return visit. This included a large bedroom, lounge/diner, kitchenette and bathroom. The staff were all friendly and obviously Covid prepared.
The breakfast was all freshly prepared with cooked, continental or vegetarian options. We made good use of the heated outdoor pool and grounds in this visit. All in all a lovely holiday experience.

Hello there. We do offer the facilty of a Studio and those with a sea view, 2 of which have balconies. Of these though, the earliest availability, is for May of 2020. In the next week or so we do have a Double Studio, non sea-facing, available for the forseeable future. With the split of our room 'stock' there are far more 1 and 2 bedded apartments than any other room type - with the 1 bedded apartments being more numerous than the others. So, for availability, there are a few more 1 Bed Apartments, Sea Facing and non currently. Our rooms/apartments were originally designed around a Timeshare Resort Hotel and as such are were for stays of a week at a time. The rooms have storage space for such and the kitchenettes were also designed around this too. The Fridges are an under counter design and incorporate a small Freezer shelf with several fridge shelves and drawer. The kitchen has a sink plus a kettle and toaster provided. All are welcome to provide their own other implements as they see fit. In terms of storage space, there are the usual wardrobes and chest of drawers which offer a small amount of storage and, our rooms are somewhat larger than a standard style hotel so have a little more space than some. Any questions regarding availability and the apartments please feel free to contact the Resort directly where we will be pleased to confirm any details for you. Kindest regards Andrew Stoneman GM

Dear Neverland of Newport! Our Indoor Pool has a shallow end up to 3' 6" which is half the pool- the other half has a slope which goes to 7' 7". We do have an Aerobics class and a Zumba class that are held in the Shallow end for up to 12 people so there is a reason amount of room. Hope that helps Regards Andrew Stoneman
