On arrival we had the pleasure of meeting Nikki one rude obnoxious woman who only wanted cash or a money transfer straight into her personal bank, no customer service skills or likability factor about her at all, was very heavy on the sell sell sell for grossly overpriced wine bread and milk in her campsite shop. The campsite is in a lovely location but that’s as far as it goes, the showers cost you 40p a day for 4 mins the washing up also cost in between 20p-40p, there is not adequate lighting guiding you to the toilets and shower block at night (2x£1solar lights) and no lighting at all from the bottom field up the field roughly 1000 stepS, they are so mean on the electricity that they only put 10 amp fuses in the junction boxes ( most campsites are 16A ) so every 5 minutes it trips, when spoken to them about it they moan that it’s because people use fan heaters, do they not have the sense to realize that people would not go camping if they sat shivering in the evening 🤦🏻‍♀️ but of course this is all about money to them not customer service. The toilet blocks were only cleaned once a day which isn’t enough in the middle of a viral pandemic and to my standards the soap dispensers had mold and dirt all round them as did the shower heads. In a nutshell lovely location not good facilities for the amount of people the site accommodates and very rude money grabbing owners, would not recommend Karageen to my worst enemy would now go to the one up the road!! As usual their reply will probably be one of sarcasm and defensiveness as this couple are never wrong!!!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry to read that you objected to paying for your holiday upon arrival- we do send out numerous welcome emails before you arrive which let you know that you can pay beforehand or upon arrival. We do stock the essentials within our campshop for those not looking to travel further; however, there is no mandatory requirement for you to use it and the larger supermarkets can be found in Kingsbridge which is only 6 miles away. We do not consider our shop to be expensive, nor can we compete with the discount prices found in a supermarket- the choice is yours to where you shop. I did have a little chuckle over the 1000s steps you took, as by my calculations that you take you 3/4 of the way down to Hope Cove. Perhaps a little exaggeration on your part here, but nonetheless you wanted to emphasise your negative opinions of our camping park. I must remark on your “money grabbing” theme throughout your review; unlike other tourism providers, we have not chosen to increase our prices during the COVID-19 pandemic, nor charge customers extras for all of the additional costs which we incurred by making the campsite safe and secure (especially those we put in place in our toilet facilities). You will find that many campsites in the local area chose to leave their facilities closed, but still open their parks at the same price- something we did not. In regards to the electrics, we are not a big commercial site and you will find our amp-age detailed in our booking conditions (before you book with us) so this should not have come as a surprise to you. We advertise ourselves as a rural campsite to attract those with a love of the outdoors and peace/ tranquility in their stay. Our amp-age is enough to run the basic camping needs. We do not have enough amp-age to run domestic appliances such fan-heaters, playstations, microwaves (you will find one in the laundry room) and kitchen kettles (camping kettles have a lower usage) all at the same time. During our season our toilet facilities were cleaned numerous times throughout the day and, as you can see from the reviews below, many guests noticed this. I can only assume you have fabricated such a comment to strengthen the negative effect of your review. Whilst we are happy to accept feedback, this must be truthful. Best wishes,

This is pretty much a perfect campsite. Spotlessly clean, outstanding facilities, run by really nice people and in a great situation from which to explore this lovely area. Can’t wait to return in 2021.

Ok, so we haven't actually left yet, tonight is our last night of a 9 night stay.. and I wish we'd booked for longer but all holidays must come to an end. we first visited Karrageen about 11 years ago and as Phil said when we booked in last week we must have got lost since then! 😂 I cannot recommend Karrageen high enough, the site is fabulous and has put everything in place regarding Covid19, just remember to use the abacus system especially on your way out of the ablusions!! The food vendors are well placed on individual nights and a welcome addition, the shop is very well stocked... The cloudy bay was delicious... 10pm is lights out and the site goes quiet... Thank you... Will try not to leave it so long again..
