Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Last weekend we took over the whole hotel to celebrate my wife’s 60th birthday and what a weekend. Living locally but with friends coming from near and far we had dinner for 18 on Friday evening. Then buffet and party for 60 on Saturday. The Arundel did us proud, exceeded our expectations at every turn, I cannot praise Arabella and her team highly enough. Food was truly exquisite, service impeccable and the hotel its self delightful. Jackie and Luke worked their socks off catering for our every need. Thank you to every one of you for making Kathryn’s birthday weekend so so special. We will definitely be back very soon.

Hotel's Favourite
Last time I went to Devon it also rained all the time and I ended up having my feet nibbled by fish to escape the rain. This time, staying at the Arundell I was delighted to curl up with a book by a log fire in the lounge. The beds and pillows were 5 star comfortable. Food lovely. Ambience superb. Big shout out to our breakfast angels - Tina and Mary - and to Jess on reception. A very well managed, comfortable hotel. Ruby the Labrador thought she had died and gone to heaven.

Stayed overnight and attended an evening function. Overall, an Excellent experience at all levels - from initial reception, through function to breakfast. Obviously high standards were being met by very competent and pleasant staff. And I enjoyed the breakfast marmalade!

Lovely little hotel. We were travelling with two dogs who were made very welcome. Dinner in the bar was superb as was breakfast the next morning. All the staff we met were charming and so helpful. I was initially shocked that there was no TV in the room but it was surprisingly restful.

Superb Restaurant. Great food. Great service. Well worth a visit. Price wise a bit on the high side but worth every penny. We went for a late Christmas party. Small group. They have a huge whisky menu that’s worth looking at as they have some top notch ones on there.

If you have not been yet you must! I work in hospitality and know what it takes to make a business work and what goes on. Simon, Arabella and the whole team just go that extra distance to make you feel so welcome. The service, rooms, food etc is just outstanding. Ash the head chef and his team do all they can to accommodate requests and Luke the young sommelier has a great passion for his job. We were a group of 8 staying there whilst participating in field sports sourced by the Hotel. They provided lunch in the field and a top days sport. We have been three times now in the last year and have already booked up repeat trips for the year ahead its that good.

First time ever in a hotel for Christmas. Would highly recommend it! From the beginning, communication with Jess and the staff was first class. Nothing was too much trouble - a theme that was repeated numerous times during our stay. The dog was as welcome as we were. Food was delicious and well served, the hotel looked lovely in its Christmas finery and the rooms were clean and comfortable, with plenty of sockets, mirrors etc. Bathroom was always immaculate. I don’t know where the pillows came from, but they were fluffy and gorgeous. You just disappeared into them. Husband looked as if he’d been eaten by a giant marshmallow. Despite dreadful weather, still managed some fly fishing and was visited by an extremely nice and enthusiastic ghillie. Lovely touches included a gift on CD, handwritten card on dining table and small boxes of chocolates each. Loved every minute of it - thank you Arundel Arms.

Loved coming back here. Food as before was really really good, the whole place is so welcoming and the staff are lovely. The fire was going which is even more special in the winter. We will definitely come back!

Superb lunch today. Not visited for a couple of years but we were in the area today and wanted lunch. The food and service were both excellent. A reasonably priced good lunch served in nice the surroundings of the bar.

Change of policy from previous management. First let me say we love the Arundell Arms, we have stayed there a few times under both regimes, so do not want to appear overly negative. However, we travel with our gundogs/ pets. Under the previous owners dogs were permitted in the main building, opening up the larger, more comfortable rooms to be available. The new policy is for dogs to be kept out of the main hotel’s rooms, leaving only the smaller less comfortable rooms in the annex. Obviously it is up to the management how they want to run their establishment and all power to them. Sadly due to the policy changes we will and have sourced other accommodation for our shooting trips, which is a shame, as the food and general convenience of the Arundell Arms are great.
