Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Thank you Lifton Hall for making our day complete. The afternoon tea range was superb and devine. The sandwiches and cakes were out of this world. Service was brilliant and the chef and staff made us welcome. Will certainly go to lifton hall again, perhaps for a Sunday roast.

Booked for 14 people, we had the whole hotel to ourselves. Greeted on arrival by Richard and Robert, which are really friendly and had a very warm welcome. The hotel had enough room for all. 6 bedrooms so we all could get away if needed to. Very clean in all the rooms and the whole hotel. The kitchen was massive, and that's where we planned our days out, or you can stay in the private garden if you wanted. Lifton Hall is right on the border with Devon and Cornwall, and the views are so lovely. The beach is only 30 minutes away and what lovely beaches they are. Our whole party loved this little gem and we can't wait to go back which by the looks of thing will be next year.

We were given a voucher for afternoon tea and chose to use it at Lifton Hall Hotel. What a good decision! We were made to feel very welcome, afternoon tea was delicious - homemade soup, spring rolls, sandwiches, trifle, scones with jam and cream and a selection of home made cakes. All delicious and cannot choose a favourite. Will definitely be back

A big thank you to Richard & Robert for the welcome treats they left us on arrival, what a great place for a family of 12 to book and stay all in one place, we booked a Sunday roast and they brought it through to our kitchen so we could finish it off when we got back and it was a excellent roast dinner everyone enjoyed thank you, the house it’s self was a great place with 6 rooms all with on suites so no one had to wait and a living room if you wanted to get away from the noise and a good base to go out anywhere.

I had afternoon tea arranged for me at Lifton Hall as a birthday treat and it was exceptional. Lifton Hall is a unique place and very cosy with low beamed ceilings and comfortable seating. Our table was already laid out for us and we had a warm welcome from Richard who brought our afternoon tea to the table, explaining in detail the selection of savoury and sweet food presented. The sandwiches were fresh and flavoursome and accompanied by a portion of homemade soup. cakes were in abundance (A Bun Dance?) with home made carrot cake, lemon drizzle cake, Portuguese Tarts, scones with clotted cream and jam, a fruit tartlet that exploded with flavours of berries and mint, mini trifle that packed a big punch - all helped along with a bottomless pot of quality tea. I've had tea/coffee, I've had cakes, I've had cream teas that I have enjoyed when I have been out visiting places but Lifton Hall just brought everything together in one creative flavoursome sitting. The bad points? looks like I'll have to go back and do it all again as I don't recall any bad points :) Lifton Hall also does a variety of intriguing foodie evenings and Sunday Brunch and Lunch so I would love to see how this stands up to their amazing afternoon tea offering.

Arrive hungry 😋 because the afternoon tea is huge! We had such a lovely tea, the cakes were out of this world and the sandwiches were wonderfully tasty. Service was great and very welcoming to us as a family with our two, well behaved, dogs. Really recommend it!

We visited as a group of four friends for afternoon tea in response to an advert in the local paper. On offer was a choice of traditional afternoon tea and a farmer's tea which is more of a savoury nature. The tea was served with a complementary glass of bucks fizz. The meal was introduced by the chef which was unusual but much appreciated as the items were freshly made and involved a good variety. One of our party is allergic to cucumber and this was honoured without question. Tea was plentiful, with top ups offered if required. The hotel bar is very much a traditional old English pub but with a modern twist with their Twitter and facebook addresses displayed on the wall. Price was reasonable but I was a little taken aback by a suggestion to offer a tip when paying at the bar. Car parking was easy in the hotel car park although we had a little difficulty finding the bar entrance. We all agreed that it had been a really good tea; I felt it was one of the best we have had and would recommend it.
