Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This wonderful pub restaurant is truly like no other! Every room is uniquely furnished and there is just so much to see and also dog friendly. We were looked after by the lovely staff and we will definitely return for food next time we are in the area.

We rang the high women’s and stayed in our motorhome in the car park. All we had to do was have a meal in the pub which we did, which was very nice. The pub is very quirky and lots of nooks and crannies to explore this pub would also be great for children as there is lots to do. We also had the dogs and they were made very welcome. We enjoyed our overnight stay

Very welcoming. Stayed in carpark overnight in motorhome and had supper there. Booked in advance over website email. Amazing place, very quirky. Dog walk right opposite. Quite a lot of vegan food available on the menu. Easy access off A30.

Very glad to have visited, the Highwayman is certainly very unique. We received a very warm welcome, so thank you. I didn't try the food, but the bottled beer was good. Worth a couple of hours for a walkabout, make sure you see Tutankhamun! The layout is certainly very random, the ship's galley looked very inviting indeed. I would recommend staying soberish or you might not find your way out!!

Super quirky pub. A surprise around every corner. Sally, Bruce and the team looked after our group with great hospitality, a sense of fun, ensuring our camping trip in -5 degrees was a great success. Table service was polite and professional and we ate tasty well presented food. Recommend this gem of a pub if you're in a campervan, park for free so long as you eat either lunch or dinner in the pub. There is a 24 hour men/women toilet to the right of the pub, very clean.

Stayed here with friends for two nights in our campervans parked up in the grassy area behind the pub car park. Very friendly owner and staff who helped us with tips of places to go during our stay. The food was lovely and we all felt it was refreshing to have a mainly vegetarian menu. The pies and curry options went down very well after our days exploring. We'll definitely be back

The food was well below what it should have been at £17.50 each for 2 mediocre curries which were soggy and tasteless and disappointing. I could have cooked it so much better but it was a family and friends treat.

visited this pub on Friday noon and sat down for a nice mulled wine. Sally is a very nice and friendly host and makes everyone feel welcome. As you enter the pub you step into a different world, this place is probably the most exotic pub in southwest of England and I doubt there will be many pubs quite like this elsewhere in the UK. If you're into old pubs this is a must see! Easy access from Exeter, about 30 to 40 minute drive.

Fantastic pub. We arrived on our bikes and were sad to be told they were full, just as we were heading off when we were told they’d squeeze us in, as long as we were happy to sit in the tunnel!! What a special place, the kids loved exploring the different rooms eating in a little tunnel was great fun, in fact I’d request that table if we went back!!! Nice food, fantastic staff and a great atmosphere!

What a fantastic pub, My wife, myself and our two dogs were made to feel very welcome. Both being Vegan we were in awe of the menu. Virtually everything on the menu has a vegan option which although vegan options are becoming more widely available, hospitality in general still has a long way to go in the UK. The Highwayman shows that it isn't difficult.
