Nestled in a picturesque setting, the Thurlestone Hotel is lauded for its stylish decor and inviting atmosphere. While opinions on value are split, with some services deemed reasonably priced and others, like the spa, considered costly, the hotel's location near beaches and local attractions is widely praised. Guests enjoy a variety of praised amenities, including pools and golf, and the hotel's cleanliness receives consistent commendation. Though the rooms offer stunning views and comfort, a few guests find them to be somewhat cramped. Service at the hotel is generally celebrated for its professionalism, despite a few noted inconsistencies.

The approach roads are narrow and difficult, but when you get there you'll know it was worth the effort.
The decoration is cosy traditional, tasteful and gentle on the senses, but the high spot of a stay is the the food. Breakfast is good hotel breakfast but dinner can be utterly amazing, every morsel being a taste sensation and magnificently presented. The chef is to be treasured, but we sensed he was not to be hurried in his craft.
We had a car park view room because when away we spend very little time in our room and so we were totally happy with all the facilities. As with all hotels right now there was no regular room servicing, but each morning you could put a 'shopping list' for anything you wanted at your door- including linen and towel changes should you so wish. Covid rules were well accommodated with sanitizer throughout the public areas and anti viral hard surface spays provided in the bedrooms.
Service at the bar and in the restaurant could be slow but staffing must be a problem in such a location and immediately after restrictions have been eased a little.
The views are sensation and when we played golf on the Thurlstone course it was breathtaking as well as a challenge! It is truely the most scenic course we have ever played.
All staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We would love to return.

The Thurlestone hotel is our go to hotel for a few days at the start of summer and never have we appreciated that more than on this first visit as lockdown restrictions begin to ease.

The things we love about the Thurlestone are its location close to the beach and with fantastic sea views, the rooms which are spacious, modern and very clean, the pool and pool bar and the fact that it has its own pub (The Village Inn) which adds a less formal dining option.

The service is friendly and thoughtful; you can tell that they are thinking about ways to provide as personal a level of service as possible in the face of the restrictions that COVID has imposed on us.

We booked our August week's break in March, for somewhere different, very reassured that cancellation would be possible til 2 weeks before the stay
Have been hoping ever since, regular email updates when they reopened, the pools and spa opened, and a very friendly call a few days before to advise what to expect.
On arrival, a beautiful place, spacious, clean, comfortable room with amazing views. A fantastic covered balcony so you can appreviate as much, or as little sun, or wind and rain as you like
Covid arrangements very impressive, all staff wearing masks at all times, much better than in many places, hand sanitizer and surface sanitizers,,,,,, everywhere. Neat, fairly unobtrusive perspex screens between well spaced tables in the restaurant, still allowing all an amazing sea view
Pools beautiful, bar and lounges, spacious and welcoming and the food in the restaurant..... outstanding, from amuse bouches, through every beautifully presented plate of delicate starters, main courses, puddings, incredible flavours and in neat, filling, but not overfacing portion sizes. Even little chocolate/ biscuit tasters with coffee
A very lovely place, highly recommended, returned home feeling rested and refreshed
Thank you all at Hotel Thurlestone

We came for the morning spa for my boyfriends birthday during half term. It couldn't have been more perfect. A 25 minute treatment was included as well as a delicious lunch so the value for money was incredible. The ladies who did the treatment couldn't have been nicer and the massages were the best we have had at a UK spa. I rang a few days before to ask to slightly change the massage and this was no problem. Even though it was half term the pool was lovely and quiet and even when it got busy the people there with children were lovely and very respectful keeping it nice and quiet. The staff made the experience and I am so impressed with the service we received. All the simple touches such as extra towels, flip flops etc made it a perfect experience. Cant wait to come back!

Took my wife in December for two days as a birthday surprise and it was a great success. The covid measures were very thorough including hand sanitisers throughout the hotel as well as in the room. The room was spacious with a glorious sea view and a large walk in shower. Breakfast and dinner were pre-booked and although busy we never felt concerned. The food was excellent with a good range of choice for dinner. We also used the spa which in mid afternoon was very quiet.
We had a great coastal walk to Hope Cove despite the odd shower with a coffee stop on the way.
All staff were courteous and helpful when required. Will definitely be back again.

Feeling incredibly lucky to have stayed in this lovely place in Devon. Hard to find better views, both from the room and restaurant. You can enjoy a beautiful lunch whilst watching the waves. We had dinner, which was crab for starter, beef for main and chocolate fondant for dessert - really, really, really delicious!!! You can tell they use the best ingredients most likely local. They are also dog friendly and lots of places to walk your best friend. There’s also the Village pub - part of the hotel, cozy with fireplace. My room was large, I like that they provide fresh milk in the minibar for the coffee, plus there was an espresso machine in my room - a coffee lover would understand my raving about these touches. I would very much love to go back. Staff is amazing, Sophie was super friendly and helped us with a few things. Team in breakfast, dinner, bar and reception were all friendly, polite and engaging. Housekeeping do a great job maintaining the room and the public areas.

The Thurlestone is a lovely hotel in a great location where we have stayed before. It has a great spa and gardens. However it now badly lets itself down by its attempt at a 'master chef' type menu. Everything is made to look ‘pretty’ with minimum portions of food. If you wish to have vegetables or the usual accompaniments of a meal you are require to pay extra. Each evening we found the menu very unappealing. This ‘trendy’ type of menu is not at all what we want for an evening meal.
We also found the restaurant and general hotel service a little muddled this time.
One great plus point was that the staff did not wear masks, which we are all so feed up with.

A 5 Star review for outstanding service, delicious food and stunning location. I met with the business development director, Miss Mary Grose to book a private room for an important business meeting.
I was given a guided tour of this magnificent hotel, offered various meeting rooms with full PP presentation facilities and a plan showing menus/refreshment options available. Miss Grose could not have been be more helpful. We agreed a plan and yesterday conducted our full day business meeting in the William Richard Room.
All delegates were met on arrival and shown to a private dining room where we had a hot breakfast pre-meeting. We used the same private dining room for our 3 course lunch, all fare was truly delicious. The restaurant staff were polite, attentive and could not have offered a better service. I was so impressed with this beautiful hotel that i reserved our companies 2020 Christmas Party . I can certainly recommend this hotel and its many facilities.

The only thing I can say is that we enjoyed the champagne. We thought that we would treat ourselves. Ordered and explained that I didn’t eat meat or egg, and that we wanted plain scones. I also ordered oolong tea (which I had first enjoyed at The Ritz afternoon tea).
Firstly the tray came out with 2 ham, 2 egg and 2 smoked salmon sandwiches. We immediately returned it without looking at the rest. When it returned with a cucumber, and cheese instead of ham and egg, we noticed that we had 2 fruit scones and two containers of jam instead of plain scones and one container each of ham and cream.
Finally the oolong tea was a green tea. Not what I expected, or previously had.
As for value for money. It was 5p short of £30. I preferred the full lunch at Riverford Field Kitchen; which cost less than this and included an alcoholic drink and was more healthy. Also customer service! Our waiter first appeared with his trouser hanging down and his shirt untucked. Not very professional.
Would I go again - No. Would I recommend it to anyone else - No.
Why the 2 stars. I enjoyed my husband’s company and it was time out for the two of us. The view was also very good.

Superb setting with views to die for ! The food is absolutely superb , sensational in fact and the wine is reasonably priced with a good selection. This is the third hotel we have stayed in on this holiday and the Covid rules vary for each quite dramatically, it seems to me that Thurlestone is hiding behind said rules to reduce the standard of service , particularlywith regard to check in and check out times and servicing of rooms . Extremely disappointing !
We are still here as I write , we booked a suite which is quite pricey , it is not a suite at all ( room 272) it is a family room which is tired and has a tiny bathroom with a shower above the bath , it is our 45th wedding anniversary and this room is nowhere near the standard we expected from this standard of hotel .
To finish on a positive note the pool island spa is excellent.
