As a Health & Safety executive for a large blue chip company, I'm used to global travel and staying in hotels.
I read the earlier review of Home Farm by Benz001 and really had to write this to ensure other travellers don't miss out on staying at this gem of a place.
From the moment my Wife and I arrived Richard welcomed us and ensured that we were aware of hotel policies and procedures. He even guided us on structuring our 4 night stay in order to maximise our sightseeing which we really appreciated. On our first night we asked quite late, if we could dine in the Thai restaurant which was booked out but Richard was able to rearrange things in order to accommodate us, we were so glad he did as the food was amazing and individually tailored to our particular requirements... Dim Sum to die for! Breakfast the following morning was fresh and tasty (we chose scrambled eggs with salmon) with a large pot of coffee to enjoy alongside.
The room information is very concise giving everything from local taxi numbers to information on frequency of towel changes which can be increased upon request. This is a stunning thatch roofed, 400+ year old farm house in an ideal location to explore east Devon. The view from our room was perfect looking over the rural countryside for enjoying a pre-dinner drink following a day out recommended by Richard.
We recently stayed at a 5 star hotel in York and had to accept that things wouldn't be quite as slick during these Civil times, we were bitterly disappointed.
On the other hand, at Home Farm Richard and the Team ensured that all efforts were made to ensure that our stay was fully maximised with great service and support despite trying times, their attention to detail following good clinical governance around government guidance around measures to be implemented for Covid safety was second to none.
We leave tomorrow and will definitely be back, thanks Home Farm!

Lovely friendly hotel with spacious grounds. Excellent location to explore East Devon and beyond. Easy access to the car park from the A35. From the moment we arrived we felt a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. When we booked we informed the Hotel that our dog Charlie would be joining us. Plenty of areas around the Hotel grounds plus quiet country lanes adjacent for dog friendly walking. Lovely authentic Thai restaurant within the Hotel. Must say gets very busy so pre-booking advised but is well worth it. Well stocked bar too. Spotless room and yes fresh towels when required (usual universal hotel code ie leave towels in the bath or sink that require changing!). Thank you Richard, Nats and team, overall a lovely stay.

Enjoyed another stay at Home Farm with the wonderful hosts Richard and Nat. Richard understands the importance of customer service and is always prepared to go the extra mile to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. Whilst we were there we invited some friends to join us for a meal as the Thai food is always excellent and wonderfully cooked by Nat.
Both work extremely hard to ensure you have an enjoyable stay and would always recommend staying here if you are in the area.

We booked a 3 night stay a few weeks ago in which we followed up with an email confirming that we will be bringing a small friendly dog, as they were suppose to be dog friendly. But ha, less then 2 days before we were due to arrive, we got a phone call to say that "we have decided not to be dog friendly so you can not bring your dog". The manager confirmed they got our email but said "we don't look at our emails, messages until a day or so before guests arrive".

So thank you for letting know how unprofessional, unfriendly and unwelcoming you are, wouldn't want to stay at a place that doesn't value our custom, doesn't care that you have wasted our time. On a plus side, we found a more welcoming hotel in which our dog received a wooded gift box that we got to take away with us that included her own dog bowl, towel and treats.

We also notice that Home Farm Hotel put up their prices, was more likely the reason for saying "we have decided not to be dog friendly".

We were looking for some friendly Devon experience so chose this chacterful place. However, we were very disappointed especially compared to a similar place costing less from where we had just come from.

Firstly, no towels in the bedroom (an oversight) as the owner was doing everything and wife being the chef as they run a Thai restaurant and bar too. The room was extremely small and very outdated. The room had not been cleaned properly for ages as there was dust everywhere. The milk sachets were outdated and had in fact gone off! We had had a late night as we could hear noises from downstairs and hallway and so couldn't get up in time for breakfast but were still charged for it! We were so put off by everything and felt so uncomfortable in the room that we didn't even take a shower and couldn't wait to leave!

Dinner was very tasty but quite chilli and the wife was in such a bad mood, she ignored us as she past. Richard tried his best to be a good host but just had too many roles.

My partner booked a two night stay at Home Farm Hotel over the 2020 August Bank holiday weekend so we could visit my sister in Honiton. We booked through Booking.com. As we were bringing our Labrador with us, we searched for pet friendly hotels and this one came up. We booked two rooms. Our booking was confirmed by email in the usual way which told us that "Dogs can be accommodated at the property for an additional GBP 12.50 per night, per dog." Fine, we thought. Fair enough. We turned up on Saturday 29/8/20 to be told, in pretty abrupt terms, "The dog can't stay here. You have to make a special request for that." Nowhere on the website did it make any mention of making any special request if you were bringing a dog. Instead of visiting my sister, we instead had to go home, adding a further four hours to the five we'd already spent in the car that day. Between them, Home Farm and Booking.com have blamed us for this debacle and charged us over £150 for not staying in the hotel. I've no doubt this review will receive the retort that it was made clear on the website we were supposed to make a "special request" for the dog. Rest assured, it didn't. We won't be using Booking.com or making another booking at the Home Farm Hotel.

We had a very enjoyable stay; owner Richard could not have been more accommodating, going out of his way to ensure we had a good time. The hotel, a converted farmhouse originating from the 16th century has 13 en-suite bedrooms & boasts some charming features, including a huge inglenook fireplace. Rooms are pleasant enough & reasonable for the price, but could do with an upgrade. I would echo a previous reviewers thoughts that the place is run on a shoestring, with Richard & his wife working hard to keep things ticking over. The joy of the place is the homely, independent feel, & Richards friendly enthusiasm. Another big plus is the superb Thai food, rustled up by Richards wife, a native of Thailand. All dishes were stunning. The hotel enjoys a countryside setting between Honiton & Axminster with Exeter about 30 minutes drive away. Ample free parking.
Would return.

I stayed here recently on a trip with my husband and my parents. Richard was really helpful from the moment we arrived and also with my questions beforehand. It has a great family run feel and the rooms were clean and well equipped. Richard is a big character and made our stay very memorable with good advice on local activities and restaurants. On our first night we ate at the Thai restaurant - the food was incredible! Having been to Thailand me and my husband were already fans of the cuisine and can safely say it is the best Thai food we have had since we were there. My parents weren’t very familiar with Thai food and are now converts! A very convenient location for trips to River Cottage. Drinks on the first evening did take a while to order and arrive, but we were very happy to wait and be entertained by the sweet on-site cats. There was a little bit of road noise from the rooms at the front of the hotel which was ok for us, but if you are a light sleeper I would suggest you request a room further back. A great stay and we would definitely return!

When we arrived we received a warm welcome by Richard. He checked us in and showed us around the hotel. We could really see how proud of his hotel he really is and quite rightly so. It is a charming, welcoming and cosy place. Richard showed us to our room and showed us how to use the shower. Now, my only negative about our stay is the shower. It was a complicated procedure, which could take up to 10 minutes to get the shower working properly. The negative out the way, now to our stay. The room was lovely and had everything you required for your stay, fridge, hairdryer etc. We love cats and there was always a cat about to greet you. They were friendly and very cute. The hotel itself is very clean and tidy. You can see the owners and staff take pride in what they do. We had breakfast both mornings which was lovely and Richard served us and we had a laugh with him. The second night of our stay we ate in the hotel restaurant. We don't normally eat Thai food, however we did this night. Although we had to wait a while for our food, it was well worth it. The food was flavoursome, very yummy :) and a generous portion. Give this hotel a try because you will not forget it in a hurry. Thank you to Richard and the staff for a nice stay.

Excellent location, easy to find. Clean neat room. I regularly stay away on business and think this was well worth the cost
Plenty of parking spaces. It was nice to stay at a hotel that has its own charm and character. Thank you Richard

Hi Sharon. Thank you for your kind review. I hope you had a good journey home. Hopefully, we will see you again soon under normal conditions and that we can fully accommodate you in our Thai restaurant for a fantastic meal. You can then retire back to the bar and relax on a sofa for a relaxing nightcap. Take care for now and stay safe.
