Abbey House has much to recommend it, surrounded by some of the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside in Britain. But what really makes us special is the atmosphere which is that of a relaxed country house. Enjoy the freedom, enjoy the comfort and let us look after you. We have ample car parking facilities, all of our rooms are king size beds and free wifi. We do not take online bookings so give us a call and we will be able to help you with any enquiries.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Where do you start. I just loved this place, from the lovely welcome, super room, fantastic gardens with a stunning view of the surrounding countryside.
They are licensed but only serve Lunch, though I managed a few bottles in the evening of the fantastic local Cider.
Breakfast was, great too!!
The village and area is gorgeous but this is thee best place to stay. Highly, highly recommend it!

Staying at this beautiful and peaceful place is a real treat, the location in Dorset is unbeatable for outstanding beauty, the building is traditional but impeccable and all of the furnishings are spotless and the overall atmosphere is incredible.
The food is absolutely unbeatable and cooked to perfection. Staff take absolute and perfect care of you at all times and the entire experience leaves you with a great memory.

Had lunch here for four. Excellent service and everything was freshly prepared. We were told that as everything was freshly prepared it was not a fast service restaurant. We sat outside in the Pergola.
Local Crab flan x 2 and 1 hot Dorset Smokie and sides served with a very nice Quinta rose. 4 seasonal sundaes for dessert. Total for 4 £110.20p

We stayed at the Abbey House for an overnight stay and have to say we cannot fault it in any way! Michelle and Jonathon were the perfect hosts and had lovely staff to help them look after their guests. If I had to give it a score out of 10 we would give it an 11!
The only we stayed in was immaculate and the views across the garden are spectacular! If you’re feeling energetic there’s a lovely walk up to Catherine’s Chapel so you won’t feel guilty when you come back to a lovely cream tea or a slice of their equally delicious carrot cake.
We can’t leave without mentioning Bobby a lovely companion during our stay who liked nothing more than having her belly scratched!
We’ll definitely be back before very long!

We hadn't really decided where to have lunch while visiting Abbotsbury, so took a chance on following the sign for Abbey House from the car park. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and shown to a table in the lovely gardens overlooking the Tithe Barn. Our host brought us menus and when he saw that we were being pestered by wasps, asked if we would like to move inside. We decided to risk the outside.
I ordered the Dorset Smokie with a side of chips and my wife had the fish cakes, plus a coffee and a hot chocolate.
Our drinks were brought promptly and the food soon after. My Smokie was very well presented and delicious (with proper chops, not the fried drinking straws that pass for French fries in too many places), as were the fish cakes. Our host was friendly and knowledgeable about the area and we talked about places to go and places we had been the week before.
All in all, we were very happy with our choice and will definitely come again.

I want to start by saying that I have been fortunate enough to have travelled to 66 countries, I have experienced every level of accommodation and hospitality and I also work as a Mystery Shopper, so I know exactly what to look for in every aspect of a hospitality business.
I can honestly say that after two nights with family here, which included the use of three rooms and two lunches, we have all struggled to find a single thing that we felt could be improved.
The rooms were immaculate, comfortable, beautiful decorated, spacious and with every amenity one could wish for. Bathrooms were spotless, towels and linen of top quality and changed every day. WiFi and television worked beautifully too.
The food was exceptional, both the breakfasts and the lunches. High quality local ingredients, presentation and taste made for absolutely delicious meals for us all and at great value for money too.
The place is beautiful, the grounds are outstanding and beautifully kept, relaxingly peaceful and with stunning views too.
However, it was Jonathan's hosting (with his small but dedicated team) that made for the most fantastic of stays. His attention to detail in every aspect of his business, is truly second to none.
We cannot recommend this place highly enough. No wonder they have regulars that have been coming here, every year for years. We will be back too.

We had a family wedding at the sub-tropical gardens in Abbotsbury & our stay here was just perfect.
We cannot praise the owner and his staff highly enough for their friendliness, attention to detail and quality of food.
We stayed in the suite and other family members had use of en suite rooms in this most beautiful of locations.
We hope to return and can recommend this absolutely 100% without hesitation.

There are only five rooms in this beautiful old property that dates back 550 years and was once the infirmary of the Abbotsbury abbey in whose grounds it is situated. A matter of 50 yards away is the Abbey’s massive tithe barn and mill pond. The setting is idyllic, the gardens beautiful, and the equally ancient ruin of St Catherine’s Chapel sits atop an adjacent hill. The bedrooms are comfortable and well-furnished, and breakfast (which can be served outside in clement weather) freshly prepared to order and very tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our short stay here.

We visited as a group of 4 holiday makers after stopping off in Abbatsbury. 3 of our party had cream teas and the 4th had a sandwich. The quality was excellent in a lovely setting. The host has a great personality making us feel very welcome and the setting is amazing. Would definitely stop here again of in the area.

We didn't stay here, only stopped by for lunch but the food was indifferent at best and I was surprised to read all the five star reviews on here that mention food. I advise you to avoid the crab mac'n'cheese and the new potatoes we were served had clearly been cooked (probably the day before) and then reheated. Maybe it's an amazing place to stay - certainly the location and gardens are gorgeous, and maybe guests get better food - but of all the places we ate in the area, this was the most disappointing. I would give less than 3 stars but the place is so beautiful.
