It is with real regret I am having to write this complaint review regarding my latest visit to Golden Acres. In all the years I have been on holiday with them I have never ever had to make a complaint, let alone a one as extensive as this. I have been holidaying every year at Golden Acres with a variety of my dogs since 2010, firstly by myself and in recent years with a friend. The reason for the booking has been solely because of being able to bring along my dogs and all being able to have a peaceful, relaxing holiday, going on local walks and exploring the area, Eype is a lovely village and central to local attractions. Our stay started on Friday 26th May 2023 and we were booked into chalet number 7 until Friday 2nd June, when my friend booked by telephone she was told that they had a party of bikers staying that week, but was assured that they were a small group who would be situated away from us, as we did explain that one of my rescue german shepherd dog's had a hearing disability and was extremely nervous, he had been the previous year and loved it. She was also told that they would be out during the day exploring the countryside, offered an upgrade with bigger garden so noise would be kept to a minimum. On that basis we booked the holiday. We arrived on Friday 26th and settled into the lovely chalet as per usual. At that point we had people with dogs in chalets numbers 6 and 8 either side of us, both couples were lovely. Then on Monday afternoon we had an issue, I was alerted by one of their gardeners who had let himself into the back garden by the side gate (luckily the dogs were inside) and was standing at the patio door in full view looking directly into the kitchen/dining area window, with a lawn mower and ear defenders. Not only it scared me but caused my nervous german shepherd dog to have a meltdown, it frightened him, it was a total invasion of privacy. I had to move my dog into a bedroom, opened the patio door to ask why he had not knocked to give me warning/notice he was coming into the garden, I was met with total hostility and he was extremely rude, stating he had a job to do and that the dog was a pain for barking. There was no consideration given to the welfare of my dog/s, needless to say I spoke to a gentleman in the office, who seemed bewildered and not bothered by the consequences. I then spoke to a male member of staff who did apologise and stated he would have a word with the gardener. Then on Monday around 8:30pm in the evening one of the bikers arrived to book in, they booked him into chalet number 6 next door, the male staff member knocked and mentioned that he had spoken to the gardener and that the other bikers were coming from Salisbury, they would be using the other parking space allocated for our chalet. At 10:30pm 14 additional large bikes and bikers arrived in the car park, it was extremely late and very noisy, it did disturb the whole of the site, and it is a small venue with 20 chalets. What made matters worse, which is the main reason for the complaint, the bikers proceeded to then unload and then congregate around chalet number 6 (as it has a balcony/patio meeting area) on masse and started drinking. Unfortunately because of the garden area provision at our chalet they were literally feet away from our front window, they kept crossing the front garden and proceeded to bring chairs across place them outside our window, needless to say it disturbed not only myself and friend but more importantly our dogs, my nervous german shepherd dog was constantly pacing and reacting when he heard voices, he was extremely unsettled, which got progressively louder as the night unfolded. Some of them carried this on throughout the whole of Tuesday daytime, we had to dodge people every time we left the chalet coming out the front or back gate. We also permanently had to have the blind closed so my dogs visually could not see the constant foot traffic under the window. In the end I did kindly ask them to desist from sitting in our front area and constantly walk across the front window, it was distressing our dogs. To be fair the gentlemen bikers were friendly and did comply for the short term. However, this carried on happening throughout parts of Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, we also found cigarette butts strewn across the grass outside our front door, despite it being advertised as a no smoking site. The bikers went out in the morning on Wednesday but to our horror arrived back on masse at 11:45pm that evening, the noise was horrendous, as 15 motor bikes turned up in the car park. This woke us all up, to make matters worse around 9 plus bikers congregated around Chalet number 6 again drinking and talking loudly, I went out there at midnight and asked them to move into the chalets and/or move away from our accommodation. I also rang Golden Acres emergency mobile and reported the incident to the member of staff on call, who advised me to speak to them again (not really down to me), stated he could not do anything until the following day, which I find unacceptable. The bikers did eventually move away after 1am, but by that time they had woken us up and disturbed everyone including the dogs. My nervous german shepherd dog was extremely unsettled and did not calm down, not a great experience for him. Not very dog friendly. The following morning which was sometime after the office had opened, Gemma came to speak to me regarding the complaint. When speaking to her she came across extremely standoffish and disinterested in my concerns and issues, I was made to feel like an irritation. As the problem with noise was not going to be addressed or it seemed that she was not going to speak to the bikers direct to resolve properly, I got the impression that disrupting us was the easier option. She then made a token gesture and offered to move us to number 20 chalet, only because this had become available, but only from mid-afternoon. Whilst this was sold to us as an upgrade to our accommodation, which was not the point and although it resulted in a night of no noise this caused us disruption as we had to pack up and move all of our belongings and disrupt the dogs to across the other side of the site. We were also leaving in the morning around 5am to travel home, which meant we had to pack and re-pack in quick succession. The upgrade offered also we found out once we had moved had limited use of facilities, as spa and sauna as they were out of service and broken. If we had known that not only the small party of bikers were going to be a large party, that not only were they keeping night time hours for congregating, but had accommodated them either side of us not away from the group as promised when booking (it was also mentioned by several members of their staff that they could not understand the reasoning behind where everyone had been accommodated), we would have not booked to stay at Golden Acres. I would have found alternative accommodation in or around Eype rather than be subjected to the noise and disruption it has caused. We had most of our week away totally disrupted and caused distress for not only my nervous german shepherd dog but our other 2 dogs, needless to say it was an appalling experience, not a great holiday. Although I understand the financial requirement to get bookings in I personally feel it has changed the concept and charm of Golden Acres, not for the better. Previously I have always provided positive reviews on Trip Advisor etc. and have always recommended this accommodation to friends and family, but this recent experience has been appalling and in short spoilt our holiday. Upon return I emailed to make a complaint, which was not responded to until I chased it up. The response I received was not only factually incorrect but rather rude and did not at any point deal with the complaint in its entirety. The reply I sent following this to this date has not been responded to either. I know this review is rather long but I need it to be made clear of the background as to why I needed to complain. Not a great experience and after years of visiting Golden Acres I will not be holidaying there again. The customer service was poor at best, not at all a peaceful location or in this case very dog friendly.

Excellent location for holidays with your dog. Lodges are well equipped and comfortable. The park is very quiet and peaceful. Within walking distance from Eype beach. Lovely country walks for the dog and a lovely pub nearby (New Inn) which is dog friendly and serves excellent food. Great location for days out to Lyme Regis, Charmouth and easy access to shops and food in Bridport. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would definitely come again.

This is my honest review of the above accommodation. I originally booked a lodge for four people, the main reason for this short break was for my father in law, who has spent the last 8 - 9 months in hospital, after suffering a very serious life threatening illness. All through his recovery/rehabilitation I was telling him, as soon as he is able, we would take him away, also providing a well deserved break for my mother in law and my wife. I feel it is important to include this information in my review. Anyway, back to booking! I was dealing with Gemma, who was very helpful and understood my concerns regarding my needs. I decided to choose the parks premium lodge. This was the Jurassic Sea Pearl Suite ☆ With Spa, it is a two bedroomed lodge with accessible shower and stool for my father in law and a twin bedroom with small en suite. Oh and a 'jacuzzi bath' and 'sauna' this was what sold it to me and I had been telling my father in law what he had to look forward to! So we arrived early and fair enough we were told to come back after 3pm because the lodge hadn't been cleaned. When we returned (nearer 4pm) I entered the lodge to be greeted with a sign inside the sauna, saying 'Sauna not in use, sorry for any inconvenience' not a great start! I then asked a very jolly, helpful gentleman why the sauna wasn't working, he went away to find out......on his return, he said "you haven't paid for the spa facilities?!!" I then assured him that I had. I, then went to the office and spoke to the previously helpful Gemma. She then said the same! After trying to understand what the hell was going on and making my feelings clear, another female very patronisingly said "you must know our price list!" Whilst holding up her personal price list. No, I had paid for a two night stay (a considerable amount as well I might add) including the facilities in the lodge, why would I book this lodge and not use the 'spa??!!' They were both adamant that I wasn't going to be 'permitted' to use the spa, then saying "well it hasn't been cleaned!" I then walked out of the office and heard more sarcastic, patronising comments, obviously I wanted no confrontation because of our circumstances and ignored it. I explained to my family and obviously they were very very disappointed and upset. When I eventually sat down in the living area, which was very nice to be fair, with a nice sofa and tv and considering it is a very 'doggy friendly' park I was pleased that the furniture was clean and didn't smell of pets, however, this was definitely not the case for the outside area, as I was sitting directly in front of the open door (it was very hot) I could smell quite a strong smell of urine! This was unpleasant and also there were uneaten dog chews in the garden and dog faeces. I know the sun probably excaturated the smell but all was needed is a bleach on the patio area and to give the grass a good hosing. By the way I have had dogs nearly all of my 63 years, so I understand these situations. When I then closed the door, I was shocked and very surprised at the state of the glass, it was absolutely filthy! Obviously from dogs wanting to get out and being nosey. Kitchen and dining area were very good, no complaints whatsoever. Bedroom one, with the double bed and 'sort of wet room' was ok, the bathroom though was very very tired and the shower could have been better. Moving onto the twin bedroom, it was very very small with no room to move whatsoever and the en suite was very poor, old, dirty and very very tired. The shower was no more than a trickle, very poor. After I got home I emailed the park with my feelings and got a very curt reply, basically calling me a liar, even though I have email confirmation of what I had paid for! Apparently I found their website 'confusing' once again, how patronising! Their email also said, threats would not be entertained and unacceptable behaviour, harassment and ill manners towards staff, will not be rewarded. That was the company's last communication! I am at my wit's end trying to understand what they have written! I do have photos of our time at Golden acre, which I am going to attach for anyone booking to see and make their own minds up. As I said in my final email I would obviously not be returning and suggested, they probably wouldn't want us back. I do think that good old customer service is definitely lacking and I am thankful that our three night stay in Devon prior to our stay at Golden acre was completely the polar opposite.

Response from Golden Acre Holiday Bungalows, Guest Services / Front Office at Golden Acre Jurassic Coastal Lodges
Responded 27 Jun 2023
Good Morning, Your originally booked a summer lodge for 2 nights for £340, then I sent you a video tour and you said it wasn’t going to be adequate for you farther. I then offered you an upgrade to Our 2 bedroom 2 bathroom lodge excluding the spa for £100 this was verbal over the phone. Then you asked over email if it could be £50 for the upgrade, I said no due to this been a large lodge. I had already made an exception as we do not offer this lodge for 2 nights stay usually. The price would be £580 for 2 nights with full use of spa facilities. Our price list is on our website in the about section. I’m sorry you found the emails confusing however they are generated through an automated system which we will look into. The Spa had not been cleaned due to the facilities have not been paid for. The dirty window and the excrement in the garden we apologize for and we will check with our cleaning team. However there is no smell, we are a gold award winning dog friendly holiday park. We are on call 24hrs a days any problems you during stay could have been dealt with immediately or when you handed your key in at the end of your stay. No refund will be issued, threats will not be entertained and unacceptable behavior, harassment and ill manners towards staff will not be rewarded. Many thanks Golden Acre

Clean, warm and cosy - well equipped and lovely for a short break in Dorset. A perfect place to stay if you have a four legged friend - only downside was having to go out of the front door to the side gate to let the dog into the garden. The best information book we have seen in any cottage we have stayed in. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Despite the weather not being great on the day of arrival or departure, we were lucky to have a beautiful day in between. This lovely little site is on a small, windy lane leading to the sea, with a footpath running alongside the site for those who don't want to walk down the lane. There is an office on site and the staff were super friendly and welcoming. The nearest shop is the Spar on the site up the road, just a few minutes away. The pub up the lane is lovely and had a roaring log burner going. The day before I arrived I had an email to say they had upgraded me as the other lodge was empty so I was lucky to have a view of the sea across the rooftops. The lodge was clean, warm and cosy. It had everything we needed for our stay, including a tray with coffee, tea and biscuits. The little bag of dog treats and some poo bags on the coffee table were a lovely extra touch. The secure garden area was nice although the boggy ground meant we didn't use it but in drier weather it would be a great feature. The outside seating area at the front was lovely, as was the dog tether, I sat outside with a coffee on the Saturday morning. The lodge has everything in the kitchen you would need, has a dining table, freeview tv, comfy bed and large shower. It was the perfect location for a break by the sea and I was even tempted to stay another night. I would definitely recommend this lovely place and will be returning soon. Thank you for a lovely stay! Rachael and Charlie.

What a lovely find! Having 'discovered' Eype this year, this was my fourth visit, and it didn't disappoint. The lodges are so well situated, only a 6 minute walk to the beach (go down the little gravel path between numbers 11 and 12), and obviously slap bang on the SWCP. We arrived and only got in the car once to get supplies from Morrisons (again, total win as it's only a 5 minute drive away). The lodges are small but perfectly formed. Very clean, and the facilities are excellent - hob, oven, microwave, and a brilliant shower. Certain elements could be 'lifted' a bit, but that's purely an aesthetics thing - blinds instead of net curtains, a new set of curtains etc. The main thing is, they are clean. All the staff I encountered were SO lovely - from booking, to chatting upon arrival. And the little treats left for our doggy were so sweet. We walked to West Bay and back on our arrival afternoon, and then a 9 mile circular to Golden Cap via Seatown and Langdon Hill the next day. Plus a sea swim, in November! (again, brilliant to be able to just walk the short distance 'home' after that). Highly recommended (although please don't tell everyone, or we won't be able to get in next time we want to visit!).

My husband and I have just returned from Golden Acre , we had the most wonderful time. The staff are so lovely, hospitality at its best. Simon , Gemma and Tom were all really helpful and kind but never intrusive. On arrival we were greeted with a bottle of pink prosecco, flowers and a lovely card as they knew it was our anniversary. The chalets are spotless, comfortable and have everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Fabulous walks on the doorstep. Really dog friendly , with each chalet having an enclosed garden. This was our first stay here and will not be our last, we can't wait to go back.

We had a lovely stay at Golden Acre, and were greeted with very friendly staff. Had a chat with the owner, who explained to us her involvement with the development of the lodges over the years. Lovely base to explore the area, and a short walk down to the beautiful beach. Accommodation lovely and clean, and perfect for the dogs.

So many boxes are ticked at this lovely holiday complex. The staff are friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. It’s billed as dog friendly, and it’s safe to say dogs are given as warm a welcome as the humans! The small lodges are compact, but larger ones are available. Worth the extra layout if you can. Everywhere is well maintained and spotlessly clean. It’s also incredibly peaceful. The local beach is only 5 ish minute’s walk from the complex. It’s dog friendly all year round and totally unspoiled. The local town is Bridport, a pretty, bustling area, with lovely shops, pubs, cafes and an extensive market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This is a lovely base for exploring the Jurassic Coastline area- which is spectacular! Happy to recommend, and thank you to Simon and the team for a great long weekend’s stay!
