Upon arrival to osmington mills our hopes were high. We decided to go somewhere different this year and when we found the osmington mills page we were excited to live 2 weeks in luxury. As the lodges on their Facebook page and videos and photos all advertise luxury lodges. Well upon arrival we were told we were in kingfisher 12 and that we “should” be able to park both of our cars up there. That should have been red light 1, as we were under the impression that we would be able to park alongside the lodge like is advertised. Anyway we got booked in took our keys and off we went. When we got to the lodge we had to park at top of one of the slight hills and our lodge was down a set of stairs going down the hill. On the outside our lodge was a dirty brown, the steps and handrail up looked like old wood and looked like it was about to collapse actually at the state it was in. I understand it’s the outside and is out in all weathers but even so the maintenance team could have actually jet washed it throughout the summer and done repairs. The step felt like it was going to fall through when stepped on and wobbled a little depending where you put your foot. When we walked in we were half an half. From the outside before opening anything it looked not too bad. Liveable. Upon further inspection the dirty brown leather sofa that was in there was filthy. Even tho it wasn’t supposed to be a pet lodge it had white fur all on it and dirt marks. I am allergic to cats so I knew it would irritate me if the hair belonged to a cat so that wasn’t good. I went into the bathroom and there was all dirt in the bath. God know what it was it looked like someone had left skid marks in there. The toilet and sink was dusty and the mirror had marks on it. I went into the second bathroom and the mirror cabinet had dirty marks all on it like someone had spat on it or popped their spots all on it. The bedrooms were somewhat clean, although there was different carpet that had been used in the bedrooms to the hallway and it looked nasty and felt nasty. I couldn’t even walk on it bare foot. So after a long journey we had come into a lodge that had cost us £1,200 and something after the discount and it wasn't even clean. I’m not asking for a lot but cleanliness is a high list priority. Especially after the last few years with Covid. When we looked around the kitchen opening the cupboards we realised we didn’t have a washing machine. We then proceeded to look to see if we had any cleaning equipment like hoover, and an airer and mop and bucket. We had just been left a mop and bucket. There was no hoover and there was no airer. So then our issue was, we’ve booked to 2 weeks how the hell were we supposed to wash our clothes?! If we were to hand wash the necessities we had nothing to hang the wet washing on. What was we to do? The kitchen upon first glance looks clean but when i went to move something off it I got dirt on my hands. So after we had gone shopping that same day I cleaned everything. I cleaned the kitchen sides which came up dirty on anti bac wipes. The kitchen table was dirty and we even had to clean the placements. I had to wipe down the sofas and the sofa arms. I cleaned the bathroom and the bathroom walls cause there was hairs on the walls. The shower head was disgusting so we bought a JML power shower head and used that for the time we were there then changed it back. I cleaned our bedrooms even tho the bedrooms were the best out of the whole lot. It sent me into a cleaning frenzy. I went to reception to enquire the next day cause that was not what I was expecting. When I went to reception to complain about the lodge and the state it was left in upon arrival I felt the receptionist couldn’t care less as they’ve already had my money and didn’t want to resolve the situation she just want to prove that that was the lodge I “booked” and did not seem bothered other than to prove herself right. Even tho I explained I hadn’t CHOOSEN anything, when booking I was ALLOCATED it. The only logical reason for this was the website glitched without me realising as I didn’t have access to a drop down menu. I put my details in chose the dates and it allocated me a lodge. I thought this was how it was supposed to be as every site is different. The receptionist was only bothered about proving me right and even told me she would sent me an email with what I had booked! The washing machine situation we were told to go to another site to go and wash it as they didn’t have a laundrette on site. BUT they had a GYM👌 When we told her that the lodge was dirty when we arrived there and that we had to go out shopping that same day to get cleaning equipment as well as normal shopping bits she then basically called me a liar. She said “it was clean when you arrived” and then proceeded to argue with me when I told her it was NOT. I listed what I had cleaned but she clearly didn’t believe me. If there was no cleaning equipment inside the lodge what did the “cleaners” clean with?! Anyway so we made do, we worked with what we got we went to buy an airer and we had to hand wash the washing. We bought natural rope to make a make shift washing like whilst the weather was nice cause it was taking ages to dry cause there’s only so much water you can’t get out of clothes with your hands. The washing would take 2 days to dry! For a little while we made do, we adapt. We shouldn’t have had to that’s why we booked a “fancy” lodge for 2 weeks so we could chill and have a break from the real world. We had a good first few days as we went out into Weymouth cause the weather was nice. One day we came back from Weymouth to find a note on the front door and an airer. Telling us to take the washing line down and to use the airer as they had had complaints from others. We were fuming. They had airers available and they didn’t offer previously when we complained or even tell us that they had access to some. So money was wasted again as we had already bought an airer. And we felt cheated. The other people sitting in the lodges around us had the decency to moan about us DRYING our washing in the sun. We had no washing machine, we had no tumble dryer! The sofas and beds in this lodges are awful. We have come away with bad backs and achy bones cause they physically hurt to sit on and lie on. We cut the holiday short, we came back after a week and 2 days. And we have never done that. We definitely will not be going back to ANY of the holiday parks again. Discounted or not. We also did not see ONE cleaning crew the whole time we were there. We only saw the maintenance team cutting some of the hedges down and they were lovely people very polite.

Responded 24 Sept 2023
Dear Rachyamy Thank you for your feedback which is critical to the successful operations of our parks. I am sorry to read of your disappointment in your experience during your most recent stay with us. As a family owned and operated park, it is critical that we maintain the impeccable standards that our brand and reputation has become known for. We are disappointed that you felt that your accommodation was dirty on arrival. We have strict cleaning procedures and the lodge was checked by one of our housekeeping team. As human error can occur and as part of our standard terms and conditions, we always ask for the opportunity to put things right if we have missed something. I understand an offer was made for Housekeeping to re-attend to address the issues but it was sadly declined. It was unfortunate that we didn’t get the opportunity to re-attend. We do not leave hoovers or mop and buckets in our lodges but if needed they are available by asking at Reception. Unfortunately, as per our park rules we do not allow our owners or guests to erect make shift washing lines. Unlike our other parks in the area and due to the nature of Osmington Mills Lodge Park we do not allocate lodges. Our booking system is set up to give our guests the opportunity to browse our lodges and look at the pictures and details that accompany them. On each property there are icons that show what facilities each lodge contains. As our lodges are all bespoke and all very different in what is available to the guest, we do not promise washing machines in every lodge and therefore, is not shown on the website included in Kingfisher 12’s description. I have also checked the description on the website for the Lodge that was booked online and cannot find anywhere that it advertises 2 separate parking spaces. Should you do have any conflicting information about where you believe this was shown, please do contact our team so we can investigate this. We are sorry that you felt you had to cut your stay short, and wish you well with your future holiday endeavours. Best Wishes Lesley

Dear Mr Baylis Thankyou for your review. We are saddened to hear that you were unhappy with your accommodation during your recent stay. We are extremely disappointed that we were not given the opportunity to resolve these issues for you. We always ask guests to report any issues they may have with the accommodation to the Reception team in the first instance. We take any complaints or issues very seriously and will always do everything in our power to ensure our guests have the best stay with us. We do understand that the absence of a shop on the park can be frustrating and it has been trialled in recent years but was rarely used. Very recently the Osmington Village Shop was opened at the top of Mill Lane which is 0.7 miles away and we are very lucky to have Craigs Farm Dairy in Osmington village which is 0.9 miles away selling all things dairy and general provisions. If you would like to contact us to discuss your stay in more detail please email the Guest Experience Manager Katie.Harper-Brown@watersideholidays.co.uk who would be happy to address your concerns in more detail. Warm regards Lesley

This is our second stay at Osmington mills in recent years. The lodge was excellent. Well appointed, comfortable and spotless with parking right outside the lodge. The lodge park grounds were very well maintained and located in lovely surroundings. The ground maintenance and lodge staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Food wasn't being served in the evening but there is a cracking pub 10 minutes walk away on a safe road called The Smugglers Inn. Great food and drink and excellent staff. Great service.

Fantastic lodge, really well decorated and very quiet (apart from nearby nesting crows!) . We were in the kingfisher area and had a view of the sea. We had a hot tub that unfortunately wasn't hot enough until our second day, but it was a nice extra to have. Shame it was tucked around the back of the lodge without a view though! The staff were helpful and friendly and the park was clean. The kids loved the outdoor pool but be aware that you need to pre-book this. A short walk downhill to the Smugglers Inn pub. Would definitely return.

Dear Ames_6 Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! It is really appreciated and valued. Great to hear that you loved your lodge and enjoyed the sea views that went with it. Apologies that you found the hot tub cool on arrival. When we have back to back bookings (i.e. arrival and departure on the same day) we have to empty, clean and refill the tub and it can take a few hours to reach the desired temperature. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon! Warm regards Lesley

We loved our time here, such a great park. Booking was a breeze with really happy enthusiastic staff, the park is spotless and the grounds are beautifully kept. Our lodge was clean and bright, well looked after, and a joy to be in. From our decking, we could see across Weymouth Bay to Portland. Idyllic. Couldn't fault any of it. And just to add to the magic, there's a cracking pub less than 10 mins walk away. Great choice, definitely book!

Having booked very last minute, we were not sure what to expect but we’re very impressed. Booking and reception staff were very friendly and helpful and the accommodation was great. We were in the Kingfisher area which has incredible views out to sea. We ate at the country club a few times - hearty food and the menu does change over a week. The pool was still closed but Anita sorted us out with passes for Bowleze (their other park) which was only a few mins drive away. A great base for exploring the area. As in any self catering accommodation, the knifes and pans weren’t great so we were glad we’d brought our own but beds were comfy. Eye mask recommended if you are sensitive to light in the mornings but other than that can’t find fault and the views are just fabulous.
