Loved it the pub is such a delight the staff are excellent and the food delicious. We stayed in a toasty warm room with quality bedding, ok the bathrooms are a little dated however more than made up for it will lashings of hot water & beautiful huge fluffy towels. On going down to dinner nothing was too much trouble, because we wanted to sit and discuss things before dinner away from the log burner they lit a second fire just for us, our waitress Olivia Had great knowledge on the beers and the menu she was excellent, we slept very well and then this morning met Mary (GM ) who was such a professional engaging lady, we wanted to walk before breakfast and she was encouraged us to go on returning she served us an excellent breakfast top quality. We travel a lot and good service is very important to us and these guys get 100%. Treat yourself, it’s not ultra modern instead it’s quaint cosy with top class staff.
Thank you for a great stay we will be back 😍

We visited for an evening meal with family. This is a lovely pub in a fantastic setting but you need to book well in advance to ensure a place. The covid safety measures are well provisioned and clear. The front of house staff were flusterd and perfunctory despite there being many empty tables inside and no tables were being used outside, making us feel a little unwelcome. We were shown to the table but given no instruction on how to order. We had to work this out from a QR code on the table. After 15 mins of registering fot the wifi, downloading a QR code scanner and navigating the online ordering and payment system for our first drinks, the server showed up, appologised sincerely for the delay and advised that we could order through the. Of the two vegetarian options on the menu one was not available and when the bhaji burger turned up it was charcoal black and burnt on the outside and sloppy on the inside. We mentioned this to the server and were advised that this had been the second similar complaint that day but it was the only way to hold the burger together. Really! The service was impressively fast and the rest of the food was 'good' but did not really live up to the price expectation. We were offered no discount for the 'charcoal burger' which would have helped the situation. The dining area and bar were lovely and clean clean but the toilets had clearly not been tended for some time. There is a limited selection of beers which is disapointing for a brewery owned pub but understandable under the current pandemic circumstances. The servers were polite, friendly and very efficient which rescued the evening. Overall, a pretty disapointing experience but you have to take account of the current difficulties faced by pubs during the covid pandemic.

Response from Hall Woodhouse, General Manager at The Smuggler's Inn
Responded 23 Aug 2020
Hello Richard Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. I can see that you have clearly been very understanding and already made several exceptions due to the current circumstance however i personally dont think any exceptions should have been necessary in the first place. I am deeply saddened that during your visit, the food and initial hospitality we so drastically below our usually high standard. Our hospitality and fantastic food quality are two of our proudest notches on our belt. I will be personally investigating with my team members present on shift that day as to why there were such errors with your table and why no clear rectifying was done. I am very grateful that you have been so patient and provided me with clear and honest feedback. This will not only enable me to make necessary changes, but also pass forward the feedback to our brewery for suggestions on how we can all improve as a business. Thank you again Mary Deputy General Manager

We stayed here for four nights over a long weekend. We were made extremely welcome by all members of staff. Our room overlooked countryside at the back of the hotel (room 3 not a sea view). It was a good sized room with an en-suite modern shower. All very clean and warm. Our room wasn't serviced while we were there due to Covid-19 but the staff were happy to leave anything we requested outside the door (more teabags etc). The bed was comfortable but the frame was rather squeaky! We enjoyed breakfast every morning which consisted of a platter of croissants and fruit followed by a hot breakfast cooked to order. We ate in the restaurant every evening for the four nights we were there and found the food delicious and good value. The car park which has a great view of the bay is free for residents. We really enjoyed our mini-break, the Smuggler's Inn is well located to enjoy coastal walking (Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove) as well as Weymouth.

I have been a regular to this pub for almost 40 years. It was once owned by big Bill an avid RUFC man who developed this into a great pub with an amazing menu and great service to their staying guests. Since the brewery Hall & Woodhouse took it over the food became standard brewery pub grub and staying guests are dispatched to their rooms at 11pm with no additional access to drink after closing.
I have recently stayed there early 2020 and paid £110 per night. Breakfast was incredible as usual but the rest was a little disappointing apart from the location which is lovely. I tried to book for this year only to be told that the cost is now £170.00 per night, a hike of £60!!!!!
This is a PUB!!! It has no stars, no room service, no mini bar, no spa, no swimming pool and few amenities to justify the cost of a 4* hotel. It is a real shame as I LOVE this place and can afford it but cannot justify this cost so I am afraid that the Smugglers is now off my list and I will be searching for a local altenative

The Smugglers Inn is a beautiful pub set in the very small village of Osmington Mills and located very close to Rosewall Campsite. It has a large outside seating area and a nice indoor restaurant. It is a steep walk down to the pub so make sure you are wearing sensible footwear. The view from the top/car park is stunning.

My partner and I were staying at the campsite from the 12th Sept to the 18th Sept 2021 and The Smugglers Inn became our local during this time. There is a wide selection of drinks to chose from and if you are unsure the bar staff are great at pointing you in the right direction.....Black Cow Vodka and Mortimers Cider for us :-)

In terms of food you must book a table in advance, if you don't you will get turned away and we witnessed many a sad face when this happened, even if it was just for a bowl of chips!!

We ate at the pub on the 14th Sept which we had pre-booked prior to our arrival at the campsite, we were seated promptly and drinks order was taken. The menu is limited and my partner was dissaponted that the steak was sold out with no mention of this when seated and handed our menu's, we shared a camembert to start and then both had burgers (1 beef and 1 chicken) all was beautiful.

In terms of service during our dining experience it was not the best and let the evening down! Our table was booked for 7pm, we arrived at 6:50pm like I mentioned above we were seated promptly but did not appreciate the waiter running straight into the kitchen and shouting 'finally the last table is here' which were met by cheers from the kitchen staff!! Starter took approximately 25 minutes to come out from point of order, once cleared away our main was another 25 minutes. Our dinner plates were cleared away at 8:30pm, we asked about dessert and were told the kitchen was closed and that we couldn't have anything!! We had to ask for our bill four times before it materialised which was annoying considering our waitress was only re-stocking salt & pepper shakers and we were the only table in her area. Our waitress was new, only 4 months into the job and whilst we appreciate she is still learning her customer service skills require some work. We also found it amusing that our waitress had the nerve to ask for a tip when presenting me with the card machine.....ummmm no I don't think so!!

So to summarise, beautiful pub, lovely scenery, great drinks, nice food but below par customer service.

Hello SJMcMills, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. Really glad to hear you enjoyed your time drinking with us. I am however sorry to hear that this happened on the night of you dinner booking. As you an imagine from your drinking visit this is not something we expect from our team. I have looked into the team working on the evening of the 14th and will be implementing any further training with them that is necessary as we do not want any situations like this happening again. If you would like to email us personally we would like to sort something out for you. Hope to see you again sometime soon! Kind regard, Smugglers inn

Wow! What an incredible few days staying at this hotel. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed to make the most of our 3 nights there. The staff made small, kind gestures which meant a lot - like leaving honey and lemon in the room as we mentioned a chest infection one of us had, as well as decorating one of our rooms for a birthday in the group. So thoughtful. We ate in the restaurant every night and morning and loved the food - a wide variety on offer and even served us after hours, when the restaurant was shut to customers. They are very dog friendly, the rooms are beautifully decorated and the location is perfect for a restful, walking staycation. We loved our stay here - thank you.

We stumbled across this place by accident initially; to beat a torrential downpour. When we rang a family member who lived locally, they’d heard of it but never been…so was a discovery for us all.

We were there on a Sunday evening, but the roast dinner menu was still on…it’s all shaping up very nicely indeed!

The waitress was first class, no order pads, knew the specials, offered portion advice (sides big enough to share etc.) and was welcoming and speedy. I meant to take her name to shout her out but forgot!

The food…man alive. The Beef roast, which I had was a BIG portion! All the veg you could want, a good portion of meat, and the BIGGEST homemade Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever seen! I don’t even like them (normally) and even I was hall way through this thing before anyone else had started!

Polished the whole plate and then got offered the special dessert; the homemade apple pie and ice cream 🤤 which was IMMENSE!

So all in all; I can’t recommend this place highly enough…so please, please go that but further out of Weymouth than you might have planned and give this place a look!

I called in for lunch today as I was walking a part of the coast path,
They were taking walk-ins for the outside tables (you have to book for inside tables) with efficient but not overly obtrusive covid precautions.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, my caesar salad was delicious and it was just a really nice relaxing atmosphere.
Dog friendly too.
Spectacular views from the coast path and Cruise Liners moored just offshore made for a lovely walk finished off with a delicious lunch at the Smugglers Inn.
Highly recommended.

We ate here for the first time today and will certainly be back! The location is stunning (actually on the South Coast Path) the interior full of atmosphere and spotlessly clean and lots of tables outdoors. The service was friendly and quick and the food was faultless. We chose the steak & ale pie and cod & chios, both of which were perfectly cooked and very tasty. Despite the cost of living crisis, we felt the food and drink were still affordable.

I visited today with my niece, we were shown to our table by a very polite young man, once seated a very friendly young lady informed us that she would be looking after us, and she most certainly did. There’s a limited menu due to Covid but choice enough even for dietary requirements. Drinks arrived quickly and food shortly after, the small problem with my nieces meal was dealt with quickly efficiently and very politely. We didn’t feel rushed, thank you again for a nice lunch

Nearest station is Weymouth and it's the end of line station out of London Waterloo heading via Southampton and Bournemouth etc. The pub is about 15 to 20 mins drive from the station and there isn't anything nearer by rail. The X54 bus will take you to Osmington Garage at the top of the road then it's a 1.5 mile walk down the hill to the pub, Taxi may be a better option depending on the time you are planning on travelling. The pub does rooms if you need somewhere to stay. Good Luck, Jim
