Booked on for one night stay on a foggy cold winter evening so walking about 500 yards from the ferry terminal to a warm welcome by Holly who not only gave us an early check--in absolutely first class warmth. Truly astounded by the very kind offer and accomodations she made. The Goatfell Suite was truly one of the most immaculate I've ever stayed in and for my first time on the island really raised the stakes. Speaking of stakes, we settled in and after getting cozy, went to the bar just to pass by and explore but need up having such a nice time being hosted by Ryan with a dram of Arran 10 only the finest Loch na Davie produced. Had a lovely dinner too that our taxi driver from West Kilbride made - if anyone's dropping by Arran try the loaded fries 😃 chock full of cheese, haggis and peppercorn sauce. We also had the Hake and Squid with chickpeas, and the the crab and crayfish cocktail - big shout out to the kitchen team, the icing on the cake for our desert the sticky toffee carrot cake was an absolute hit out of the park, complex yet familiar. Overall full stars to other team members who made our stay heavenly, Lorna who booked us a Cab and Theo who showed us around, and to housekeeping who made our room absolutely spick and span ✨ Top Tier Arran Staycation ~ V and D

Not very visitor friendly, having been stuck on the Island due to adverse weather, while waiting in the early ferry we chose to have some breakfast, bearing in mind we had had breakfast at Auchrannie the previous day which cost less for a greater offering, and when we returned to stay over offered a great room rate for a 2nd night! Non resident breakfast is £16 per person at The Douglas which is a bit punchy for the offering, Island Prices or not, my colleague just wanted coffee, yes but because you are taking up space that will still be £16, am like excuse me? So sat there with nothing eventually getting coffee after a bit of a fuss, and being told to go sit in the lounge, again am like excuse me? Onto the bill, the chap was insistent I pay for two breakfasts so had to show him the table with a clean coffee cup, napkin and cutlery I fully understand the hospitality sector is under pressure, but with the unreliability of the ferries and the non friendly visitor experience today I can fully understand why people don’t visit

Whilst waiting for our delayed ferry we took advantage of the Douglas Hotel's close proximity to the ferry terminal to have a drink and a bar meal. Imagine our dismay when the bill was presented. £110.00 for four snack courses, four 250ml glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, one house red and three beers. On inspection of the bill the main culprit was the white wine priced at £14.00 a glass. Clearly we should have paid closer attention to the wine list. The waiter explained that the owners had put the price up from £10.00 a glass because the owner was not making enough profit. Adding insult to injury is the fact that the bill did not include the cost of one of the snack courses which had been returned as inedible (Douglas Dirty Fries). Therefore the food was £28.00 and the drinks £82.00. Buyer beware.

We stayed at the Douglas with a small family group for our wedding on the island. The hotel is gloriously well appointed and quietly luxurious. The food and drinks are fabulous but the staff are simply outstanding. So warm and friendly, all ready to go the extra mile for us, and provide exceptional service. The best hotel we have ever enjoyed. Book now!

My son booked an overnight stay for my birthday and I don’t think he could’ve chosen any better. When we arrived we were shown the way to the restaurant and rooms by the lady at reception. The room itself was of a high standard and very clean. It was also really big and spacious. We had dinner here and because it was my birthday we received a complimentary glass of Prosecco which was a nice touch. The dinner was amazing, cooked to perfection, the staff were all lovely and very attentive. There was a singer on in the bar which just added to an overall excellent stay. Breakfast was just as nice served to the table and freshly cooked. I can’t wait to return.

From the moment that we arrived and were greeted by Holly in reception, who was extremely personable, till the time we left the following day, we enjoyed our stay. The evening food and service was very good and the bedroom was clean and tidy, with a lovely comfortable bed. Many thanks indeed.

A super independent small hotel. From walking through the door on arrival to checking out.. the staff are friendly, welcoming professional and efficient. Our room was spacious, clean and warm. The bed very comfortable. Lovely Arran Aromatics toiletries in the bathroom with lovely large soft towels. Food and service in the restaurant was excellent over the 3 days we stayed. Breakfast had a good range of fruit and continental supplies as well as the usual cooked Scottish breakfast plus other options. The hotel is Dog friendly and is in an Excellent location for the Ferry and bus services .. plus there is a good car park.

Nice hotel well appointed. Nice lounges bedrooms kept well daily cleaning and replenishment of hospitality tray. Handy for the ferry literally 1 minute from disembark ramp. Could do with a bigger choice on the evening menu, tends to repeat if you're there for a while.
