At the heart of the beautiful isle of Arran lies the multi-award winning, employee owned Auchrannie Resort. Auchrannie now consists of two four star hotels; the romantic and relaxing ‘House Hotel’ catering for couples and those wanting a more intimate experience whilst the contemporary ‘Spa Resort’ is popular with families and those prefer a more modern feel to their surroundings. In addition, the resort features 30 five-star self-catering lodges (sleeping up to 8 in total luxury and therefore perfect for the extended family), 14 retreats (sleeping up to 4 people) and a motorhome stopover. The accommodation is complemented by 3 outstanding restaurants and bars, 2 leisure centres both with pools, destination spa featuring treatments by ESPA and Ishga and an outdoor adventure centre. Arran is Scotland’s most accessible islands, often referred to as "Scotland in Miniature” due to the dramatic contrast between the hills and mountains in the north, and sweeping moorlands on the south of the island. A short 55 minute ferry journey off the Ayrshire coast, Arran is easily reachable by those arriving into any of central Scotland’s main airports as well as those travelling by car, train and coach. Whilst many tourists arrive on the island simply to kick back and relax, the island is packed with attractions and sights for visitors of all ages.

Auchrannie Resort is widely regarded for its inviting atmosphere, with guests often praising the cozy fires and serene ambiance. The resort's cleanliness and stunning location are also consistently highlighted, offering easy access to attractions and picturesque scenery. While the rooms earn compliments for their standards and comfort, a few guests have mentioned concerns with size and temperature.
Amenities are well-received, especially the pet-friendly environment and leisure facilities. Although the service is generally celebrated for its excellence, some visitors feel the pricing is a bit high relative to the value received.

We were fortunate enough to stay at one of the one bedroom retreats. Fabulous views down the glen.
The unit is very tastefully furnished and even has a fully equipped kitchen. Slightly odd is the lack of a dining table. Not only is this awkward for eating but it means if you want to do anything on your iPad or even write an old fashioned journal etc the only option is to balance the device on your knees.
The bed was comfortable and firm. Large bathroom with separate shower and nice soaking tub. Like most places the bathroom has multiple use soap dispensers etc. Thoroughly approve but there is nothing close to the bathtub. If you have time and energy there is an outdoor hot tub which is heated by a small wood stove. It took over 2 hours with lots of restocking of wood to get it hot. Well worth the effort with lovely views down the glen.
Food in the Brambles restaurant was good although the mussels were too garlicky. Excellent attentive service.
My only complaint is that for the price of the room it is unacceptable to expect guests to carry out garbage, run the dishwasher, tidy everything up. I had no problem with zero housekeeping for a 4 night stay( no clean towels etc) but taking out garbage on my vacation. ..ridiculous.
Overall recommend the resort despite a few quirks.

Just had a two night very relaxing stay at Auchrannie and it was just an out of this world wonderful experience. We stayed in room 214 in the Spa resort which was a very spacious, comfortable and well presented room. The bed was massive and had bunk beds in a separate room if needed. The toilet, bath and shower room were fitted to s high standard, although the water pressure was slightly disappointing to those who enjoy a power shower. The whole building was at a comfortable temperature with an easy to operate room thermostat.
Every member of staff we encountered throughout the complex was attentive, pleasant and friendly and keen to please. There were plenty of dogs on site and we noticed in the hotel they even had a signposted entry door with fluffy towels to rub down mucky pooches. Dog friendly indeed! Breakfast was delightful with plenty of fresh options and on the cold buffet table a platter of smoked salmon. We ate in both restaurants, Cruise in the spa resort and Brambles in the hotel, and the food and service in both were excellent even for my gluten free wife. Drinks and food were a bit pricey but who doesn't mind paying a bit extra for quality and service. Our first isit here but not our last. Thank you all

Having had a few wonderful stays at the resort, sadly we haven’t been over for five years so this was a highly anticipated trip. I can’t stress enough how much the Auchrannie did NOT disappoint. We arrived mid morning to make the most of our sadly short (two night)trip and although we were super early for check in we found one room already available and were told the second was guaranteed by 2.00pm. Had a text well before then saying the room was ready. We had resort rooms on the ground floor, beautiful rooms with the most comfortable beds possible. Even the cushions which I normally put to one side were super comfortable. The rooms have plenty of space and all amenities needed for your stay including an iron and ironing board. The room did get quite warm during the night but there are fans provided. The bathroom was spotless and had a bath and shower( over bath shower) water pressure was good and water lovely and hot. We tried to use as many of the facilities as possible starting with one of the two pools and sauna. Lockers and towels are provided. Pool was beautiful. We also booked treatments in the Aspa and seriously regretted not booking more. Now the serious stuff.. the food… we had breakfast which I defy anyone not to enjoy and ate in the evenings at the two restaurants currently open( sadly the third Eighteen69 is temporarily closed and this was always my favourite of the three however neither Cruize or Brambles let us down. The food is locally sourced where possible and both places offered a varied menu can’t say which restaurant we enjoyed the most. The staff deserve a special mention, from the second we walked in and met the lovely reception staff to the fabulous waiting staff in both restaurants, the beauty therapists and all the cheery housekeeping staff I met in the corridors all are a credit to The Auchrannie…. Can’t wait to be back!!

On the day of arrival, the room was far too small and looked a bit grubby. No hand wash in the dispenser, I had to ask for housekeeping to bring one up to the room. The same evening « whilst in the shower » there was no shower gel in the dispenser. I used the hand wash. I called reception to have a replacement sent to the room for my husband, they delivered 2 small body creams. Called again and received at last the shower gel. The following evening, the dispenser for the shampoo/conditioner was empty. Back onto reception to have a replacement. The empty dispensers were still on the wall whilst the other new bottles were still standing in the bath. There was mildew around the bath area and under the glass partition and the rubber kept following off when you folded the glass partition back and forth. There were long hairs found on the pillow slips. The second day when we came back to the room, the carpet was not hoovered and still remnants of grass from the previous day were still visible. The bathroom floor was not swept or cleaned and behind the toilet brush holder was dust which must have been there for a few days. My husband and I speak several languages and we detected one of the waitresses (who turned out to be a manager) had a French accent, I asked her in French did she speak French? Her body language was pretty stiff and she said clip and clear, sometimes in English. Took our order and left. She never came to our table after that and just avoided us. Sadly, she forgot to order the soup for my husband. I had to ask another manager and he said that it had not been ordered, but he would get it immediately. My husband decided not to have it as we knew our main courses would be coming. The manager assured us that he would ask the kitchen to hold our order for the soup to be delivered. However, the soup was eaten and our mains arrived OVERCOOKED! My husband’s fish was dry and my lamb kebabs were grossly over cooked. We could only say for the food in general that we had, only one evening was very good out of a four night stay, sadly. One of the waitresses from Australia was extremely friendly and we recognised her efforts. She was happy to receive something from us to help her with her trip after her departure from Auchrannie. I enjoyed the swimming pool which I used daily. However, the first day in the shower to wash before I went swimming the shower gel dispenser was empty🤦♀️There is more to say, but there is no more room in which to write it

Dear Sightsee49733359630 Many thanks for your candid and no-holds-barred review of your recent visit to Auchrannie. I would like to clarify, and I believe this was explained to you during your time with us, the room in which you were residing was part of the original section of the hotel, the architecture dating back to the 1860’s. Most of the rooms within this area have a different floor layout as per the plans when the building was built, long before Auchrannie. Unfortunately, the structural design of the building prevents us from carrying out any major renovations. However, I would like to point out that this is the room you booked. It is regrettable that there was some toing and froing with our Front of House Team to request shower gel and shampoo dispensers to be refilled. I have passed your comments on to the Housekeeping Manager and asked that they speak to their team regarding this matter. Whilst we certainly appreciate you bringing this to our attention, at no other point did you raise your other housekeeping concerns with us until the afternoon of your third day. You were advised that the Housekeeping Team could attend your room immediately, or at a time of your choosing to rectify the concerns you had raised. You declined both offers. I am sorry if you found the restaurant manager curt during your visit to Brambles. This is certainly contrary to the feedback we receive both from other guests and her colleagues. The fact that she has progressed through our ranks from a food and beverage assistant to now being the assistant restaurant manager speaks volumes of her work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond each and every day. It is regrettable if the food wasn’t to your liking. I am aware that there were no other comments or issues regarding the quality of the food served in the restaurant during the evenings you dined with us. I am confused as to why you didn’t divulge your overall concerns in the restaurant at the time, rather than making us aware by posting a review. If the expectations of any guests or visitors to the resort are not met in any way we want to be given the chance to make things right. Unfortunately, this can’t be done if we first become aware of an issue through an online review. Our leisure attendants regularly access the changing facilities to clean and replenish, but on occasion, during busier periods this may not be possible. Also, depending on which areas require attention, the attendant may be unable to enter due to privacy and can only gain access when they are 100% confident the changing rooms are empty. Whilst I understand you do have more to say, I think we get the gist – Auchrannie is not for you!

Some resorts are good this one is excellent. Lots of pooches and no smells in the rooms. Lots of great walks and no mess from aforementioned pooches. Staff went out of their way to be helpful, polite and friendly. The dogs were treated to gravy bones in the room and by staff in the restaurant. The bunk beds were substantial and more than suitable for our two teenage children (15 and 16). The rooms and facilities were all spotless and staff were constantly looking to maintain these high standards. The bike lock up was impeccable complete with tools, air and water. The spa pool area was great especially the little kids pool. The hotel pool additionally offered hot beds and jacuzzi along with both having a large pool, steam room and saunas. My only criticism would be the pool loungers which were a bit hard. You can get wash clean cushions these days and these would have helped. I would highly recommend it for luxury accommodation, food and facilities which are welcoming to all family types and pooches.

We have just come back from our second stay at Auchrannie and we absolutely love it. The staff are all wonderful, the location is beautiful, the whole resort is spotless, and the rooms are lovely and comfortable. We’ve always chosen to eat at Brambles because it’s a more adult atmosphere and both the food and staff there are absolutely fantastic. We also bid for a room upgrade and were given the Duchess’ room which was beautiful and felt really special. We plan to come back every year to celebrate our birthdays.
However, there is one issue that does put a significant dampener on our stay. The House Hotel pool / spa facilities are billed as being more relaxing / catered to adults, however every time we have gone it’s been full of screaming children for hours on end. We totally understand that parents and children have a right to enjoy the resort as well, but we don’t understand why it’s necessary for them to come into this area when there is a leisure centre and children’s pool across the car park in the spa hotel which is far more appropriate for families. We’ve found it impossible to relax in the House Hotel pool area because of this, and it doesn’t really feel as though the resort is catering to adults who may also just want to have a few hours of quiet relaxation. Surely a good option to ensure that all guests enjoy their stay - both families looking to spend time together but also adults looking to relax - would be to make the House Hotel pool facilities adults-only. We’re aware that there’s generally less children in this area after 5pm, but that’s still a significant chunk of the day where one of the hotel’s main attractions is effectively a no-go zone.
Everything else is wonderful though and we can’t thank the brilliant staff enough. Thank you for another lovely stay, and we look forward to coming back.

Dear Georgina H Many thanks for posting your recent review. It was wonderful to welcome you back to the resort and I'm pleased to see that you enjoyed your overall time with us. However, I was sorry to learn that you felt you were unable to enjoy the leisure facilities within the House Hotel due to increased numbers using that particular amenity. I would like to advise that your time with us did coincide with the school holidays, which obviously meant that a large proportion of our guests at that time were families. Whilst I certainly appreciate your frustration at not being able to enjoy a peaceful visit to the hotel pool, as a business, we are more than happy for guests to use both swimming pools and are certainly not prepared to restrict their usage. We look forward to you returning to the resort in the not-too-distant future.

Almost tempted not to write this so as to keep this motorhome pitch a secret, but that wouldn’t be right . The resort has 8 motorhome pitches that can be booked in advance and have access to lovely modern toilets and showers. For an extra fee -£7.50 per person per day , you can use the lovely pool and spa area in the hotel or in the spa building. You can also add on breakfast as well, amazing value at £14.99 per person with hot smoked salmon, Arran cheeses as well as all the usual suspects available. Thought Brambles for dinner was a bit overpriced.
Wonderful way to enjoy the Auchrannie resort without a high price tag and bring along your dog as well.

Our stay at the Auchrannie Resort started when we were met at the Ferry Terminal by the resorts courtesy mini bus which took my wife myself and our German shepherd dog to the hotel. Checkin was quick and when we entered our room we had been gifted a hamper of local food produce and a nice festive card welcoming us. Our stay was very comfortable and the staff would go out their way to help with whatever we asked for and make everyone’s stay as homely as possible. The hotel was kept clean at all times. The hotel grounds were perfect for walking our dog, a torch is required when dark if moving away from the building. Auchrannie Resort were exceptional over the festive period having something for everyone and for all ages. There was a party in the Cruize Restaurant organised by the staff to bring in the New Year for anyone that wanted to attend. For comfort, homely experience, good food and excellent service Auchrannie Resort has been a great place to stay and I look forward to my next visit.

Ah, Auchrannie Resort! Where the charm of the Isle of Arran meets... well, something just a bit shy of what you’d hope for after forking out a small fortune. Now, don’t get me wrong—it’s a lovely wee spot for a quick break. But let’s just say my wallet was feeling lighter and my expectations a tad heavier by the time I left.
First off, the resort itself sits in that no man's land between “luxurious” and “middle-of-the-road.” You know, the kind of place where you arrive thinking you’ll be pampered like royalty, but end up feeling more like you’ve booked into a posh Travelodge. It's not *bad*, but for the prices, you’d expect the *Queen* to greet you at the door, and instead, it’s more like, “Here’s your key, good luck!”
Now, onto the culinary side of things. Auchrannie’s restaurants offer decent grub, but let’s just say they’re serving beer while charging champagne prices. £41 for a steak? I mean, unless that cow lived a life of luxury on its own private Arran hilltop, that's a bit steep. The food is tasty, don’t get me wrong, but not quite Michelin-star worthy, unless Michelin has really lowered its standards while I wasn’t paying attention.
The staff, however, are the saving grace. Honestly, they could not do enough for you—attentive, friendly, and a warmth that makes you want to buy them a drink. Or at least, you would if you hadn’t just spent all your cash on dinner.
Now, about that room. Oh, the room. Comfy enough, but the shower? Calling it "underwhelming" would be kind. It had all the power of a drizzly Scottish morning—not exactly the invigorating burst you need after a day exploring the island. More like being licked by a damp cat.
If you're someone who enjoys a powerful shower, well... bring your own bucket.
But the real highlight? The leisure facilities. Top class, truly. The pool, spa, and gym are so good, they almost make you forget the rest of the stay is a bit, well, average. If the whole resort were up to the same standard, Auchrannie could charge double and get away with it. As it stands, they’re charging double and getting away with... not quite enough.
All in all, Auchrannie is a nice break, but a pricey one.
Go for the leisure facilities, stay for the staff, but don’t expect too much from the room—and maybe bring your own steak.

Dear bogheadben Your candid feedback is certainly welcomed and unquestionably enlightening. Whilst the nature of your review comes over as very tongue-in-cheek, some of your comments come across as quite flippant, to say the least. However, I would like to pass on my thanks for the kind words concerning the staff. It’s regrettable that you feel your wallet took a bit of a battering during your time with us. Whether you booked directly with ourselves, or through an online booking agent, you would have been made aware of, and agreed to the room rates, during the booking process. Our website also provides guests and visitors to the resort the chance to peruse the menus for our restaurants, as well as Aspa treatments and Arran Adventure activities, prior to their visit. Although some items are priced due to the high-end quality of the ingredients used, I do believe that the majority of our menus are priced quite reasonably. Whilst we do not claim to be Michelin star, we do certainly take a great deal of pride in the preparation, presentation, and serving of all restaurant dishes, or grub, as so eloquently described in your review. I can safely say that I must have missed the 30 5-star lodges, 14 5-star retreats, 85 4-star spa and hotel bedrooms, 2 restaurants, 2 swimming pools both including a sauna and steam room, a treatment facility, an adventure facility, a soft play facility, and much more on my previous stays in the Travelodge. Regrettably, I am unable to clarify whether you raised the issue with your shower during your time with us as you have not provided your room number. Our Maintenance Team would have attended immediately had they been made aware of the situation. Upon check-in our Front of House Team provides a warm and friendly welcome for arriving guests, ensuring essential resort information is always passed on. As well as this we provide every arrival with an Auchrannie newsletter. A member of staff is available 24/7 guaranteeing that assistance is just a phone call or trip to reception away. It is unfortunate that you didn’t raise any of these concerns and thoughts during your visit. A Duty Manager would have been more than happy to have a conversation with you. To provide some information about your room rate, which you believe we are getting away with, we, along with the majority of other hotels, use revenue management software and other algorithms to automatically update our hotel room rates on a daily basis. Depending on the day you book and the actual availability at that time, our rates will increase and decrease from day to day. Our pricing strategy is implemented following in-depth market research and set to be competitive with resorts of the same stature as our own. Once again, many thanks for your feedback.

We had a pleasant overnight stay with reserved spa treatment and evening meal in Brambles restaurant. Pick up from ferry terminal seamless, check in easy and hassle free, room ready even at 11am despite two check ins in front of us not, so that exceeded expectations. Room comfortable and advertised as an Executive Spa double in the ‘spa hotel’. So easy access to the booked treatments in the spa. We’ve stayed in many hotels with such facilities and expectation would be robes and slippers in room in order to make it easy to attend the facilities, not here, despite the premium price tag! They have credit card details so if concerned about items being removed from rooms, just take the cost from those details placing signage as such in room! But when treatments are booked and checking into the spa these are provided then, but NOT if you aren’t prepared to pay the average £100 for a treatment, that didn’t impress me tbh! In completing the hotels own survey following our stay, I made this point to be advised that they provide robes and slippers from reception on request?? Never once seen or been told that at any point! So take note! The room is advertised as having bunk beds in the room and I thought it may look awful but it’s tastefully done as they are pull down concealed in the wall, looks way better than I thought it might. Facilities in room were average and ok. But very fresh decor and well maintained and spotless. Breakfast was good, hubby wasn’t impressed that the full Scottish breakfast didn’t had haggis! There was no hurry to fill up the cooked items, lots of hanging around for things to be filled up. Swimming pool sauna and steam room all as you would expect but no access to drinking water?. Spa treatment was very good and felt taken care of, very nice sorbet afterwards. We ate in Brambles restaurant which is in the main house hotel a short walk across the car park. Separate review for this, disappointed with food and service though. Hired bikes from the on-site services, great quality and value to get about. With exception of restaurant the staff throughout were great! Arran has so much to offer and we love it, not in a hurry to rush back to Auchrannie though! But glad we visited.
