At the heart of the beautiful isle of Arran lies the multi-award winning, employee owned Auchrannie Resort. Auchrannie now consists of two four star hotels; the romantic and relaxing ‘House Hotel’ catering for couples and those wanting a more intimate experience whilst the contemporary ‘Spa Resort’ is popular with families and those prefer a more modern feel to their surroundings. In addition, the resort features 30 five-star self-catering lodges (sleeping up to 8 in total luxury and therefore perfect for the extended family), 14 retreats (sleeping up to 4 people) and a motorhome stopover. The accommodation is complemented by 3 outstanding restaurants and bars, 2 leisure centres both with pools, destination spa featuring treatments by ESPA and Ishga and an outdoor adventure centre. Arran is Scotland’s most accessible islands, often referred to as "Scotland in Miniature” due to the dramatic contrast between the hills and mountains in the north, and sweeping moorlands on the south of the island. A short 55 minute ferry journey off the Ayrshire coast, Arran is easily reachable by those arriving into any of central Scotland’s main airports as well as those travelling by car, train and coach. Whilst many tourists arrive on the island simply to kick back and relax, the island is packed with attractions and sights for visitors of all ages.

My fiancée and I stayed for two nights at the Auchrannie hotel and stayed in the hotel suite. Overall the place was lovely and the suite was clean, spacious and luxurious - the bath and shower facilities are fantastic. The hotel however is expensive and the service was sometimes lacking.

We arrived via ferry and the hotel provides a minibus to collect you which is a nice touch - it’s about a 20 minute walk from Auchrannie to the ferry port. When we checked in the staff were friendly enough although not hugely engaging.

The first night we ate at Cruize bar and restaurant and this was a thoroughly underwhelming experience. We were served by someone who was clearly new to the role and understandably nervous so there was a bit of faff trying to get seated and served. The meal itself was really disappointing, my partner ordered the Cullen skink risotto and it was tasteless and resembled rice pudding! The prices were very high for the food provided on the menu - which the disappointing risotto aside was standard pub grub.

We had breakfast in the Brambles restaurant included in our stay which was nice and included a small selection of continental foods and cereals and the option to order an array of cooked food from the kitchen. Again the service was a bit of a let down, with the staff being quite slow and indecisive, but the food was rather nice.

We opted to use the spa and thermal swimming pool and this was very relaxing and enjoyable. The staff were nice and helpful and the pool was just the right temperature. Facilities included a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room which blew away the cobwebs!

We had dinner at the Brambles restaurant on our final night and the food was a massive upgrade from the offering at Cruize. Again, the service was slightly shoddy though with the staff not really knowing where to sit us and the person who booked our table had made an error. We were placed by the fire escape when the restaurant was empty and having had to ask to move to a window seat prior we thought it was not worth the hassle to ask to move again. The food here was lovely, but once again quite expensive.

Overall Auchrannie is a lovely stay, but will burn a hole in your pocket. I’m not sure it’s fully worth it’s glowing reputation or lives up to its prices, but it was a positive experience and a more than comfortable stay.

Dear RebeccaH4237, Thank you very much for your detailed review following your recent stay at Auchrannie Resort. It is wonderful to read your positive comments about how much you enjoyed the luxurious and comfortable accommodation, relaxing Spa leisure and pool facilities, breakfast and dinner in Brambles Seafood and Grill and our complimentary mini bus service from and to the ferry port. It is disappointing to learn however, of your underwhelming experience in Cruize Restaurant and that you feel the food and service did not meet your expectations. We are usually known for our high quality food and professional and friendly staff and we are truly sorry if you felt differently on this occasion. I have passed your comments to the Cruize Head Chef and Cruize Restaurant Manager to discuss with the teams and to implement additional training where necessary as part of our on-going commitment to improving the quality of food, along with our hospitality and standard of service. Thank you again for your valued feedback and we very much hope you will choose Auchrannie again on your next visit to Arran. Kind regards, Guest Services Auchrannie Resort

Have stayed at Auchrannie several times but of course this visit was very different due to the current restrictions. No soft furnishings in the rooms or restaurants and masks should be worn in all public areas. Hand sanitisers on entry and staff all coped well considering, especially all the waiting staff who couldnt have been more friendly and helpful. However, it was not made clear until our arrival that there would be no cleaning of the rooms. This was given verbally, there is nothing in writing. Whilst I understand why, there should at least have been an arrangement for dirty towels to be collected and toilet rolls to be replaced without guests having to phone down and request this. We were also only given two paper cups to last 5 days...at least provide an adequate number of paper cups! Phoning down for paper cups seemed a bit silly. Clear penny pinching here. Agree with some previous reviewers that some reduction could have been made in price as although the full Auchrannie experience cant be provided just now there a few tweaks that management can do to make life for the guests a bit easier.

Booked Auchrannie for a couple of nights with my wife, a new baby, and our dog; and couldn’t have been happier. I was looking for an Airbnb but so glad we choose a SC lodge here instead. Enjoyed it so much we booked an extra night (not even due to ferry cancellations), with the Country Club Manager moving other bookings around so we could stay in the same lodge.

The facilities were excellent, with everything you could need available. A good starter pack with milk, tea, and coffee; as well as treats, a bowl and towel for the pup. If I could suggest anything, it would be to have dressing gowns available in the lodge for cooler mornings and evenings while the storage heaters catch up.

We ate in both Eighteen69 and Brambles and had a fantastic meal in both. We really appreciated being able to take the dog with us, and think it’s great that they have a separate area for dog owners so you don’t have to worry about offending other diners. We thought the service was impeccable even with being in an annex.

We used the spa for massages and received fantastic treatment. Although we didn’t get a chance to use the other facilities, from peering in they looked of a high standard. The space in the resort is excellent and we enjoyed wandering up from the lodges to the main hotel and spa, with beautiful landscaping and views.

The resort is in a great location, easily walkable to Brodick and a well-stocked coop, with other restaurants and shops nearby. The beach was a lovely walk, and Brodick castle was probably a 30-45 minute walk from the hotel too. Easy access from the Ardrossan ferry making it the perfect place to monitor the weather conditions for cancelled crossings...

Can’t wait to come back.

We stayed for 3 nights not long after everything started to reopen again. There were 4 adults and 2 children staying in 2 rooms. We upgraded to executive plus before we went which we were glad of as it was good to have access to the hot tub and bottles of water, juice, etc.

The hotel was spotless and all staff were really lovely. We were told there would be no cleaning as we were only there for 3 nights but we just needed to phone if we wanted anything such as towels, toilet paper, etc. This was fine and we were happy with this.

We were DBB and our favourite restaurant was 1869 which was really lovely. We liked Brambles too but our meal in Cruize wasn’t as good. The atmosphere was much less relaxing and the limited menu wasn’t to my own personal taste. The menus were reduced which is understandable but this changed after we booked and most of the things that would have been our first choices has been removed, particularly from Cruize.

I visited the spa for a massage which was really good but again I paid full price for limited service, no access to the relaxation room/pool. Understandable given the current situation but not the best value when still being charged full price.

The reason I have given a lower rating is because we were paying over £300 per night for DBB but really that is all we got due to all the facilities being closed. I completely understand that they had to be closed due to the situation, however still charging full price for a much reduced service is not good value. We were offered a slight discount on archery and segways but when we tried to book there wasn’t a time slot that suited us so we couldn’t use them and the discount wasn’t a huge saving anyway.

I’ve always enjoyed staying at Auchrannie and this was our 3rd visit but this time I left feeling that we had spent a lot of money and hadn’t got the best value. I feel that they should have reduced the cost of the stay by a little, put a bottle of wine in the room or offered a voucher towards a future stay. A small gesture would have been fair to reflect the lack of usual facilities.

Dear Jacs2001, Thank you very much for taking the time to review Auchrannie following your recent three night family break and for sharing your candid feedback with other travellers. We are delighted to be welcoming guests back again and it is lovely to read how much you enjoyed your dining experiences in eighteen69 Scottish Tapas Restaurant and Brambles Seafood and Grill. It is also wonderful to hear your positive comments on the cleanliness of the Hotel, as well as how friendly and lovely you found our hard working team of staff. I will pass your kind words on to the Restaurant Managers and Housekeeping Manager to share with their teams. I am very sorry however, that your experience in Cruize didn't quite meet your expectations on this occasion. I will also feedback your comments to the Executive Head Chef to discuss with the team and implement further training where appropriate. You may also be interested to know that following your comments and other similar guest comments, we will be increasing the variety of dishes available on the Cruize menu over the next couple of weeks. We pride ourselves in actively listening to our guests so that we can continuously improve the quality of our product and service. It also saddens us to learn of your feeling of disappointment that some of our usual facilities and services were unavailable and that this affected your overall experience. Whilst the Resort and your holiday experience may have felt a little different, I hope you will agree that we still provide the same warm welcome, quality and hospitality so many guests have come to enjoy, despite the constraints of the global pandemic. We have also been open and transparent about the changes to expect when visiting Auchrannie and this information is clearly highlighted in guests pre-arrival email along with booking details and room rates. It is also available on our website. We hope the positives outweigh your slight feeling of being let down on value for money on this occasion and that on your next visit, Covid-19 will have further diminished and Scottish Government guidelines will permit us to be fully operational once again. In the meantime, thank you very much for your valued feedback and we hope to welcome you back again in the near future. Kind regards, Carol A Guest Services Manager

Just returned from a few days staying at the Auchrannie Resort Hotel as an 80th birthday present for my mum. We had such a lovely time from the minute we arrived until the minute we left. Special mention to Louise at reception who checked us in, checked us out and was on hand in between to help and advise us. My mum is in a wheelchair and on check in Louise took the time to come out from behind reception desk and invited us to have a seat in the reception seating area so that my mum could be part of the check in process. This really was a lovely, thoughtful gesture. Louise chatted away whenever we bumped into her and also came out from reception to chat and say goodbye on check out.

Shower seat was required in our bathroom, and within a couple of minutes of arriving in our beautiful and extremely spacious room, housekeeping arrived and fitted the shower seat. Amazing and quick service.

If dining in Cruze restaurant, it is reached by a lift and a few stairs, but there is a disabled chair lift which, if you phone the restaurant just as you are heading up, one of the girls from the restaurant will meet you from the lift and work the chairlift for you. Again, the girls couldn't have been lovlier.

All in all, I would not hesitate to stay again at the auchrannie with their disabled facilities and extremely thoughtful staff, to whom nothing at all was a bother.
5 stars to you all.*****

Staying at Auchrannie for what I believe is our 3rd or 4th visit we wondered how it would be with the understandable restrictions placed upon the hotel due to Coronavirus. On arriving we were immediately put at ease and reminded why we wouldn't stay anywhere else on Arran...the staff! They are consistently friendly and helpful and nothing ever seems to be too much trouble for them. I disagree with previous reviewers about collection of dirty towels and replacing paper cups/toilet roll etc. Picking up the phone and dialling "0" to request these things is hardly a hassle and considering how hard the cleaners must be working to turnaround/deep clean rooms just makes sense in the current climate. Yes there have been changes e g the breakfast buffet items are packaged up (but you can still request your hot breakfast rolls or a full Scottish), and the pools are obviously not open, but the dinner menus are still varied and interesting, the ASPA and arran adventure have some activities running. You get the sense that the staff have worked really hard to make sensible decisions to make everyone feel at ease. In fact the only thing that has annoyed me about this break is some guests picking and choosing when to wear face coverings which I feel is disrespectful and rude. Otherwise, no complaints from me. If you want a lovely relaxing break come to Auchrannie. We will be back! Maybe after we hopefully manage to have our cancelled Corona wedding :-)

We stayed in the house hotel at Auchrannie over Valentines weekend. Our room was lovely with a big bay window and appeared to have been recently upgraded with usb sockets and a connected Tv. Unfortunately on our second day the heavy rain resulted in water coming into the room. This was not a problem though as the reception staff organised an upgrade to a suite along with assistance from housekeeping in moving to the new room. The quick actions from the staff were really appreciated. During our stay we dined in all 3 restaurants and enjoyed each meal along with the good service from the waiting staff. Breakfast was in the Brambles restaurant where we enjoyed cooked to order breakfasts along with a well stocked cold buffet table. The tea and coffee on offer was of a high quality. We also took advantage of the swimming pool and steam rooms. The steam room was the best I’ve ever experienced. Overall we had a perfect weekend and can’t wait to come back again.

Dear mccroriec, "The perfect weekend" and a perfect 5 star review! Thank you so much for your fabulous feedback following your Valentine's celebration weekend at Auchrannie. We are so sorry about the exceptionally heavy rain fall we experienced that weekend, which resulted in the need for prompt action to be taken by the Reception Team to arrange an upgrade and a room move for you to our Suite in the House Hotel. Delighted we could accommodate you and that you were happy with the resolution. I have passed on your positive comments regarding all three restaurants, Hotel Leisure facilities and fabulous steam room to the relevant departments to share with their teams. First visit to the Isle of Arran, we choose to take our motor home and stayed at the resort on one of their 8 pitches. All pitches have electric hook up and are all within meters of the shower, toilet block, washing up area and there is a water hose for topping up your vehicle if required. Level plot with plenty of space between vehicles although you are not allowed to have your awning out if you have one. Hotel facilities including spa fitness centre and restaurants all available to use(charges apply)we visited Brambles restaurant and were very happy with both food and the service. The resort is in a great location for walking and exploring the area and also only a 15mins walk to the sea front in Brodick. The site is also dog friendly which was a major plus for us. We would certainly recommend and have booked again for later in the year.

Booked this because of the reviews we have seen and word of mouth, we opted for a Delux retreat but was offered an exe retreat as an upgrade. Booked for 2 nights with meal allowance and the Dog, well impressed with resort, check in was quick everyone smiling, the lodge had everything 2 TV's wood burner plus central heating spacious bathroom large bed well equipped kitchen little touches like toiletries, pods and milk for coffee machine treats for the dog were great, oh and a wood fired hot tub used on first night took 2.5 to heat but was amazing.
We ate in Brambles steaks were tasty wine was good plenty to choose from , service quick very nice experience ,2nd night we dined in 1869 Tapas was Scottish themed very good sharing portions, sweet menu could do with few more options. Our Ferry was cancelled so we had to stay another night we were given a cheaper rate and again dinner allowance, dog was free, very Impressed nothing was too much for staff, third night we dined in Cruize again very impressed with food service and surroundings. Would we come back ? Yes best £ for £ spent on a short break for years.

Dear Chris T, We are so happy to learn that your first visit to Auchrannie exceeded your expectations. We really appreciate your fantastic 5 star feedback, shared with other like minded travellers. Our Executive Couples Retreats are very special indeed and the perfect haven to "Getaway" from it all and relax amidst spectacular scenery. Perhaps on your next visit, you may like to take advantage of our 'Bath Tub Butler' service (bookable in advance), which sets up your wood burning stove and heats your hot tub ready for your arrival, making the experience even more amazing!. I have also passed on your positive comments to all three Restaurants and our Reception Team about how much you enjoyed the hospitality, food and service. We hope your VIP (Very Important Pooch!) also enjoyed the freedom of our lovely grounds and setting. Thank you again for your valued feedback and we hope to welcome you back again soon. My stay at Auchrannie was a very exciting Christmas present from my partner. It was our first time on the island and our trip was a luxury expense not normally spent on ourselves - so we decided to go all out.
We stayed in the Excecutive Couples Retreat and I really must say everything about the accommodation was wonderful. The little retreats are stunning and really give off a wow factor. Nice big bed, fab smart tv's, wine fridge, wood burner, the relaxation wall pod .. everything was great.

Our dissapointment came from a leak issue with the outdoor hot tub. After spending 4 hours tending to the fire to heat it ..we realised the water level was dropping dramatically and could hear water leaking out. We called the reception who sent out maintenance to have a look. They decided it couldn't be fixed without emptying it and by this point it was too late to consider an attemted repair in the dark, refill the tub and then heat it again. This ovbiously resulted in no use on our first night and quite a few hours not relaxing with maintenance staff at our lodge.

The next morning maintenance staff returned to have a look at the issue. This alone further added to our expensive 'relaxing' weekend not being very relaxing. We were told the drain pipe wasn't attached properly and just siliconed on and the wrong plug was used in the tub but that this would be resolved for us to use in the evening. When in the hot tub that night we found that the leak issue continued along with issues with the plug holding and periodically 'unclipping' itself leaving us to keep our feet down on the plug to hold it in and avoid drainage.

While the hotel was lovely and staff tried their best to resolve the issued we had .. we felt that the money we spent for 2 nights in Auchrannie didn't justify our experiece there. We spent £900 for two nights in Arran, including the room, ferry travel, spa treatments along with restaurant dining. We felt that for less money we could have enjoyed a normal room in the hotel without the stress of the hot tub and had a much more enjoyable stay.

We regret that we spent so much money on the retreat purely for the use of the hot tub which we just didn't get to experience.
The biggest dissapointment came at the point of paying the bill at checkout when the hotel didn't offer any form of discount or compensation. They did not feel like we were owed anything as 'they worked hard to resolve our problem on day 2'. In our eyes that was just their duty to fix for us as it should have been in full working order for us to use on night 1.

They reluctantly gave us £75 discount after my parter had to get into a debate with the manager, which isn't something anyone would want their relaxing weekend to include.

Overall we both loved Arran and will definitely be back however we doubt our stay will be at Auchrannie and we hope any future guests to the reatreat do not encounter the same problem.

Dear 957arlened, Further to our response to your GuestRevu Questionnaire comments, I would like to thank you very much for your candid review following your recent stay at Auchrannie. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us as we strive daily, to improve our product and service for every guest with each and every stay. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed everything about your accommodation in one of our Executive Couples Retreats, including its stunning location and luxurious facilities; they really are unique and it is great to hear your lovely comment about appreciating the ‘wow factor’, which the team work hard to create. We care deeply about our guests and we are saddened to learn of the issue with the hot tub on the first night of your stay. Consequently, along with our sincerest apologies and in full acknowledgement of our shortcoming on this occasion, your bill was compensated appropriately for your inconvenience and disappointment. It is deeply regrettable however, that despite every effort to ensure you had the best possible experience the following evening, with our Maintenance Team reacting promptly and resolving the issue, by providing our Hot Tub Butler Service free of charge and checking the water level and temperature regularly, along with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, that you feel your experience was not the relaxing one you had hoped for. Auchrannie prides itself in providing something for everyone and if you give us another opportunity to rebuild your trust, on your next visit, you may prefer to book one of our Executive Plus Rooms in the Spa Resort, which have access to the Executive Lounge and outdoor patio with heated hot tub. This is a very different experience to the Couples Retreats but a luxurious one nonetheless and I feel you may prefer this style of accommodation. We will do all we can to help you feel as happy and relaxed as possible during your stay. I hope your experience has not deterred you from returning to Auchrannie and to Arran to explore more of the island. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind regards, Guest Services Auchrannie Resort
