Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were stranded on Arran due to a ferry cancellation and required to stay for 2 extra nights. After a few phone calls we were grateful that the hotel had dog friendly accomodation available. We knew the location had great views from staying with a motorhome at the campsite next door but I didn't have a chance to read reviews etc - we didn't have many options!
Room 11 had an electric heater as the central heating wasn't working. This wasn't powerful enough to heat the 'suite' and I sat with a scarf and outdoor fleece all night. I asked for another heater for the following night and this made a slight difference but I never felt warm and cosy anywhere in the hotel during the entire stay. The restaurant and bar area was also being heated by electric heaters but these barely took the chill off the large space and meant that I was cold whiile eating dinner and breakfast.
The room has mismatched furniture and is very tired. Scuffs and stains mean it certainly does not a 'deluxe' feel. The spotlighting in the bathroom is very poor and the light over the sink doesn't work so it's impossible to apply makeup at night. The water pressure is a trickle from the sink tap and shower. The mattress is very soft and a bit lumpy so not to our preference. Water leaked from under the balcony door on to the carpet and the living area felt draughty.
The saving grace of the room is the stunning view (apart from the abandoned caravan on waste ground) and we enjoyed watching the waves crash and seals bask.
With a lot of TLC this hotel could be amazing as its location has the wow factor. We would return for the view but only once there was an overall refurb.

Glad we could help you out . Sorry you found so much to criticise with your emergency booking. The suite actually has underfloor heating with extra heaters added in extreme weather conditions. All those floor to ceiling windows for your viewing pleasure make retaining heat very difficult. Our neighbours unsightly caravan is not in our control. Happy New Year

Just had lunch here with family. Lovely food, really fresh fish in tasty batter with (skin-on) chips, veggie burger, and the children’s menu pizza was much appreciated by granddaughter - tasty and a good size. Desserts were equally good - especially the cheesecakes and sticky toffee pudding. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Great sea view from the restaurant, even on such a horrible windy day. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to anyone on Arran 😊

A planned trip to walk the Arran coastal path last May of course had to be cancelled due to Covid. I had booked a night for 4 intrepid walkers as a special treat in a fabulous location and what seemed like a lovely hotel and stupidly payed the total bill on booking as required. Of all the advanced booking payments we made for our walking trip on Arran this was the only one that was not more or less immediately refunded. Covid has been very hard for all tourist related businesses but help has been available. However there is absolutely no excuse for not refunding advanced payments and not replying to emails. Im still waiting. Be warned ........

Now, we didn’t stay at the hotel, we just popped over from the neighbouring campsite for a drink and bite to eat. We’d been before so we knew not to set our expectations too high but jings, this effort surpassed all expectations. And not in a good way. They are running a reduced menu mostly of fried foods but I was delighted to see a special of ‘warm artichoke salad’ which I ordered alongside fish and chips for my partner.

The fish was OK but the batter looked like cake. Overcooked and crispy on the outside, doughy and like an American pancake on the inside. The chips were adequate. Then the salad… Ribboned carrot, parsnip and courgette served at body temperature and doused in vegetable oil; a big old artichoke and four little vinegary piquant peppers. Weird at best, pretty rotten at worst, mostly just a bit confusing.

The grounds are unkempt. You can see how it once was but now it’s overgrown with mismatched furniture that looks like it’s been dragged about to suit staff drinks rather than to sit customers. What’s sad is that the location is a gift and a little effort would go such a long way to making this place a hotspot.

The view, the can of irn bru and the can of coke were great.

Not what I remember this hotel to be. We have been before & had good & bad experiences. This time has got to have been the worst. We ordered lunch which consisted of 2 uncooked/raw beef burgers, fried onions rings from the Co-Op & jalapeño poppers. The staff were good at rectifying the uncooked burgers but it put us off.

Outside the grounds were unkempt looking, which was not like that pre covid.

The hotel inside was undergoing works.

The toilets were foul. No hot water, hand dryer not working, water running out side of sink, bugs crawling, generally needing a major upgrade.

Such a shame that it’s went so bad for this hotel, but we won’t be back. Already had a bad experience with this hotel few years ago & it did get better. Unfortunately, it’s one to miss on your trip to Arran.

The hotel would be better closed to undergo maintenance/upgrades than open with terrible reviews.

Lured by rumours of seals moving round to the main beach we stopped by today.

The place looks unkempt & rundown so don't belive many of the pictures still posted.

But we persisted & called in at the bar/bistro for a drink while a short squall passed over.

Really wish we hadn't: inside was almost as sorry as outside. Not so much rundown as exhausted, inside would have lacked atmosphere when full but as it was the staff outnumbered us 2:1.

Initially ignored by gossiping staff we were served but went it came we got the wrong coffee with the wrong milk. Beware if you have intolerances!

Then we made the mistake odmf using g the facilities - clearly the place was undergoing renovation but into what I'm not sure. Nothing we saw would encourage us to book.

Honestly & really sadly one to avoid!

We had been to Kildonnan five years ago and had fond memories of the bar and their pub food. We decided to eat in the bistro and had booked a table, this was after lockdown and was so looking forward to the evening.......unfortunately for us the hotel was open so we ordered food. When it arrived it was barely warm and had to be returned, the waitress was very apologetic even though the blame was not hers. The food was then warmed up and it all looked edible. We all paid the price later that evening!!
So my advice is GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I paid for a voucher for a family member as a birthday treat and have been trying unsuccessfully to contact the hotel for months. I have now decided to take it further as I have received no communication at all. Very disappointing. would not recommend this hotel as there does not appear to be a method of communication that is effective at eliciting a response.

A mixed experience. Some good points about this place but some areas for improvement. The pub area is dog friendly. About 4 tables in this area. The music was really loud, too loud to speak to each other. Our peas were cold. When we were asked is everything OK we said this, but it wss half way through our meal, the waitress changed mood and we certainly didn't feel like we could stay or return. Fish and chips were hot, quite nice besides this though. Payment was before meal. It is scruffy round the edges and I can see work is going on to renovate it. But if they offered takeaway it would be a gold mine! Nobody in the restaurant area, so maybe the pub area should be expanded as it was abit squashed

We stayed in the same room as hazel137 it is quite a big room. Should be enough room for the dogs, but I don't know if there is bigger rooms available, best phone hotel.
