Travellers' Choice
Butt Lodge is a former Victorian shooting lodge which is now a luxurious Guest House on the beautiful Scottish island of Arran, famously known as Scotland in miniature. The Lodge sits in two acres of private grounds with open views over Lochranza golf course, the castle, and Kilbrannan Sound. Our hearty breakfast menu provides a variety of options to suit all tastes and dietary requirements. Whether you have been out golfing on one of Arran's many courses, walking, paddle boarding or visiting the nearby Arran Whisky Distillery, when you return you can enjoy freshly cooked evening meals at Butt Lodge. Mac is a trained Chef and loves to use as much local produce as he can, the menu changes daily and you can even bring your own wine or beer to accompany your meal, which we will happily chill for you. Situated in the mountainous north of the island, we have plenty of secure equipment storage and drying facilities so whether you’re a hiker, golfer or cyclist you can be assured all your gear will be safe, dry and ready to go each day. Our spacious lounge is a wonderful place to watch the world go by or a stag or red squirrel or two while you relax. Our aim is to ensure you have a comfortable and homely base for exploring this beautiful part of Scotland, and we hope to welcome you to Butt Lodge soon.

Property's Favourite Review
I’ve been coming to Arran for 50 years but this was the first time staying at Lochranza. Cath and Mac are excellent and welcoming hosts and thanks again to Cath for graciously accommodating our later than planned check in. Butt Lodge is a comfortable and stylish guest house; our room (Hutton) was spacious, well-appointed and spotlessly clean, with a lovely range of teas and coffees. Breakfast was terrific and we really enjoyed our delicious dinner – Mac is a great chef! We woke to sheep wandering the grounds and deer and a stag grazing on the adjacant golf course – what a great way to start the day! Butt Lodge is a great place to stay and I would definitely recommend.

Thank you Raymond for your fabulous review, it made us very happy to read that you enjoyed your first stay in the North End, we think it is the best part of Arran but we could be a touch biased! Although with the stags, the mountains and the sea all visible from Butt Lodge it takes some beating. We hope all went well on Sunday. Best wishes, Cath & Mac

We spent 4 days with Cath and Mac at Butt Lodge and felt totally spoilt. Our food was home cooked to a very high standard both breakfast and cosy evening meal, so comfortable. Not only a lovely hotel it is surrounded by beautiful views, walks and wildlife, we will be coming back!

My ideal Hotel, we felt so at home straight away. The food is wonderful and the room comfortable. We could watch the deer on the golf course from our window. Walks directly from the hotel , Lochranza has great walks and scenery. We will be back.

Second time we have road tripped the highlands and stayed with Cath and Mac at Butt Lodge, definitely won't be the last ! This has got to be one of THE nicest of places to stay on Arran. Stylish house, well cared for rooms, great hosts and excellent food. Where else could you open your curtains in the morning and watch the Stags wandering across the golf course, sit having breakfast looking out over a fantastic vista, whilst enjoying a great selection of foods. The hosts can't do enough to ensure your stay is top notch, so so friendly and welcoming (even Ginger the cat makes you welcome) ! It's a great location for walking and exploring , not many minutes from the Lochranza ferry, 5 minutes stroll to the Arran Distillery all in all, very much recommended . Thanks Cath & Mac for making our stay wonderful again, see you soon . Mike & Penny Eammon & Debbie

Stopped for one overnight ( 6 of us) via our cycle around Arran. The rooms were well appointed , spotless and we had a good super hot shower in our ensuite. Cath and Matt were excellent hosts. Friendly , acommodating ( even allowing us our quirky request of getting a guitar dropped off for our evening entertainment) . Breakfast and dinner was fantastic. All our wee idiosyncrasies on the food front catered for . Nothing was any trouble for Cath and chef Matt. Location for Lochranza Ferry , golf, pub , distillery all within 5-10 mins walk. Wouldnt hesitate to book again.

It was great hearing you all enjoying yourselves in the living room, it was no trouble having the guitar dropped off. We have decide to keep it for any of our guests to play, so no need to bring another one if you come again! Thank you for your kind words, we are so happy when guests enjoy their stay. Shame about the weather on your second day, you will just have to come back for another go at the trip. best wishes, Cath & Mac

We had the most wonderful 3 nights at Butt Lodge staying in the Newton Suite which was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Cathy and Mac are fabulous hosts and we’ve been home for a week and are still talking about Mac’s amazing food!! Please please go and experience this wonderful guest house for yourself and make sure you have the evening meals because I promise you won’t be disappointed, this is seriously good top restaurant standard food cooked by Mac and served always with a smile by Cath. Honestly can’t rate them both highly enough, we’ll definitely be back.

Aww thank you Pauline for your fabulous review, it really made our day! Mac puts a lot of effort into making the food he does and it is so nice to hear that it is appreciated. It doesn't take any effort for me to smile as I love chatting to our great guests like you and Tam, it was a pleasure meeting you both and we are glad you want to return. best wishes, Cath (& Mac)

We were in the castle suite which was every bit as good as it looked on the website photos, fantastic views across the golf course onto the hills. Cath and Mac & family were very welcoming and Macs menus and quality of food were outstanding and very reasonably price. As all meals are prepared fresh cooked to order, Mac was able to accommodate my dairy free requirements. The owners have a good knowledge of the surrounding area, and were able to recommend good walks which we enjoyed. Would definitely recommend a stay at Butt Lodge.

We had a lovely experience here, nothing was too much, the bedroom was very comfortable, I loved the fact that the plugs had usb ports in them. Great choice of coffee and tea in the room and fresh milk 😁. What can I say about breakfast it the choice was unbelievable so much and it was made fresh and really set us up for the day. Would I recommend most definitely yes. Getting to Butt Lodge is up a single track but it only services a couple of properties so you probably not meet anyone (it is a bit bumpy) please do not let that put you off staying at this accommodation you will love it 😁

We can't recommend Butt Lodge enough. Lovely location, the rooms are large, well appointed and super clean. The food is excellent but, most of all, the owners are lovely people. It was a great place to stay during our walk around Arran. We would happily stay here again and recommend it to everybody. Lee and Susan
