Butt Lodge is a former Victorian shooting lodge which is now a luxurious Guest House on the beautiful Scottish island of Arran, famously known as Scotland in miniature. The Lodge sits in two acres of private grounds with open views over Lochranza golf course, the castle, and Kilbrannan Sound. Our hearty breakfast menu provides a variety of options to suit all tastes and dietary requirements. Whether you have been out golfing on one of Arran's many courses, walking, paddle boarding or visiting the nearby Arran Whisky Distillery, when you return you can enjoy freshly cooked evening meals at Butt Lodge. Mac is a trained Chef and loves to use as much local produce as he can, the menu changes daily and you can even bring your own wine or beer to accompany your meal, which we will happily chill for you. Situated in the mountainous north of the island, we have plenty of secure equipment storage and drying facilities so whether you’re a hiker, golfer or cyclist you can be assured all your gear will be safe, dry and ready to go each day. Our spacious lounge is a wonderful place to watch the world go by or a stag or red squirrel or two while you relax. Our aim is to ensure you have a comfortable and homely base for exploring this beautiful part of Scotland, and we hope to welcome you to Butt Lodge soon.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

This was our second stay at Butt Lodge. First visit last year was a gift for my birthday from my daughter and family. We enjoyed it so much we booked to stay with friends . Cath and Mac are lovely couple, very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent , superb, delicious! Cannot praise Mac’s cooking enough. We stayed in Castle Suite, overlooking golf. Lovely to watch the deer in the morning wandering over the golf course. The suite is lovely, plenty of space and has a fridge. Lochranza is lovely little place. We are hoping to visit again next year. And I couldn’t forget to mention Ginger their lovely little cat , he’s beautiful .

Thank you so much Yvonne for your great review. It was really lovely seeing you again and we are glad you enjoyed it has much as the first time. The Castle Suite is definitely the place to be, such a vantage point to see the deer. It will be lovely to see you back anytime. Best wishes, Cath & Mac

Butt Lodge is perhaps the "hidden gem" of the Isle of Arran. Superb location, which is quiet with stunning views. The hotel is compact, but the bedrooms are of a good size and very well appointed - the provided toiletries are from the local Arran Cosmetics company in Brodick. The tea and coffee in the rooms are of a high quality, with fresh milk provided (not sealed pots!). Breakfasts and dinners are provided and of exceptional high quality, all cooked fresh to order, at a very reasonable cost. The owners are attentive and helpful. There is no "bar" at Butt Lodge, but the owners point this out and are very happy to look after any "bring your own". I could find no faults.

We stayed at Butt Lodge for three nights in June, and to me it always feels like coming home. The location is so peaceful and beautiful, with red deer roaming the adjacent Lochranza Golf Course and the summer flora finally coming into bloom.
Cath and Mac are very friendly, welcoming and accommodating hosts who will endeavour to do anything to make their guests feel comfortable and at ease in their beautiful property.
For me the specialty of Butt Lodge is the fantastic food on offer - both breakfast and evening meals. Mac is a fantastic chef with a great eye for detail and not afraid to try experimenting with the local ingredients on his evening menu. Breakfasts are substantial and will set you up for hiking on the gorgeous isle of Arran.
As it was my partner's birthday, Mac made us a lovely Victoria sponge birthday cake which was such a nice touch - it actually made my partner's eyes well up! 🥹 He had a perfect birthday thanks to Cath and Mac that evening and we were so grateful for everything they did for us that day.
The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds are comfortable with fresh, crisp linen which adds to the luxurious feeling of the rooms. I cannot think of any reason why anybody would not want to stay here - it's such a special place.
Rob & John :)

The B&B is away from the road and overlooks the golf course where there are numerous deer roaming. We had the castle suite which was an excellent room but was let down a little bit by a small bathroom. The bath towels were quite small although probably standard size bath towels as opposed to bath sheets. We ate there 2 of our 4 nights and the food was very well prepared and presented. They do not have a licence to sell alcohol but you are more than welcome to take your own. The local village pub is about 15 minutes walk away and they serve good food. Breakfast was freshly cooked and well presented.

Thank you for your review Derek, I am glad you liked the location of Butt Lodge, found us friendly and you told me enjoyed the food. I am a little surprised by the bathroom comment, no one has ever said that before and with a large walk in shower and double sinks I wouldn't say it is small. The bath towels are a standard size, in addition in the Suites we provide bath robes. I hope you are enjoying your time on Kintyre and have a lovely stay on Islay. Best wishes, Cath

Charming house in the pretty village of Lochranza, perfect for exploring the north of Arran and visiting the distillery (recommended - book early!) Our room - very clean - had a double aspect overlooking the bay and the little golf course, often frequented by the local red deer, and the food was something special. Bring your own drinks.

A very nice bed and breakfast, which offers a high-quality dinner option. Breakfast is first rate, and our host offered the option of homemade overnight oats should we wish the following morning.. Our room was very comfortable with amazing views. Liked that there were coffee bags for a decent wake-up brew. Lochranza is a beautiful destination.

This place is amazing, Cath & Mac went out there way to make our trip extra special, they care about the finest detail of your trip and will make sure you are satisfied.
The B & B is in a fantastic location in Lochranza, which is a great place to be based when visiting Arran.
The rooms / B & B were fitted out very well, with USB chargers, a decent kettle, mini fridge, with everything to the finest detail being nice and well made / high end, lovely quality curtains, bathroom appliances & Arran aromatics toiletries.
The breakfast & evening meals were of amazing quality again with Cath & Mac going above & beyond to meet our needs.
We will be back and would recommend booking, the location is amazing, the B&B itself is great, but its made by the owners.
Thanks again

Second time we have road tripped the highlands and stayed with Cath and Mac at Butt Lodge, definitely won't be the last ! This has got to be one of THE nicest of places to stay on Arran. Stylish house, well cared for rooms, great hosts and excellent food. Where else could you open your curtains in the morning and watch the Stags wandering across the golf course, sit having breakfast looking out over a fantastic vista, whilst enjoying a great selection of foods. The hosts can't do enough to ensure your stay is top notch, so so friendly and welcoming (even Ginger the cat makes you welcome) ! It's a great location for walking and exploring , not many minutes from the Lochranza ferry, 5 minutes stroll to the Arran Distillery all in all, very much recommended .
Thanks Cath & Mac for making our stay wonderful again, see you soon .

What a gem this is! Surrounded by mountains in the beautiful village of Lochranza, this is one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in.
Cath and Mac are exceptional hosts, friendly but not intrusive and very welcoming. We were lucky enough to have our evening meal here too and Mac is an excellent chef. Breakfast was great and plentiful. Meeting other guests in the dining room just added to the experience but equally, you don't need to engage if chatting to strangers isn't your thing!
There are not a lot of places to eat around the area so make sure you are prepared to drive if you don't want to eat at Butt Lodge (highly recommend you do though). Lochranza Country Inn is an option but you must book in advance. We had drinks here and were lucky enough to see seals resting on the rocks in the bay opposite.
We stayed in a suite as our six year old was with us and it was made up for her on arrival. She was very excited to have her own 'room'. There was plenty of space and rooms are spotlessly clean. The sitting room downstairs is just lovely. We sat with a bottle of wine appreciating the view and watching the red deer walk around the golf course. A lovely experience.
I really can't recommend Butt Lodge or indeed, the Isle of Arran, highly enough and the only downside is that we only stayed two nights. Thanks Cath and Mac and Connie says hi.

Four of us had a wonderful two night stay with Cath and Mac. Butt Lodge is in a great location and our room (No 3) had a dual aspect over the golf course and hills beyond to watch the deer and large birds (eagle, harriers ?) at play. Cath had funds of local knowledge to share and Mac’s cooking was excellent. Breakfasts are made to order and were top drawer; the beef. Geeks he cooked for one night’s dinner were sublime.excellent value for money in a most wonderful place. Go and enjoy it for yourself.

The beaches that are in walking distance are not sandy but there are many sandy beaches on the island, the closest is at Sannox about 10/15 minutes drive. Many people do go in the sea, often in wet suits, depending on the weather. I hope this helps, let me know if you need more information.
Hi Suzie, thanks for your enquiry.
Although we occasionally allow dogs in the house, these are few and far between as we prefer to minimise the amount of time pets are in rooms as much as possible. Every room has had a dog in it at some point, however, we take great care to ensure the rooms are deep-cleaned after any pets have stayed.
Please do not hesitate to give us a call if you would like any further information.
Thanks again.

Hi Archie. Thanks for your enquiry.
The approach is via a 200m stretch of gravel/rocky track which is quite rough in places. We've had guests in classic MGs who have had no problems at all, but some longer low vehicles have been a bit concerned. Generally if you take it slow it is fine. Alternatively you can park at the main road and walk up if you don’t want to risk it.
Depending when you are planning to come, the track may be smoother...I'm trying to arrange improvements to it at the moment so hopefully that should happen in the next couple of months.
Thanks again.
