Detailed Reviews
We stayed at this B&B in Findhorn in November, when it was quiet enough to get a room quite easily.
The property is situated between the Findhorn Foundation and the village itself, about ten minutes walk from each. The rooms are contained in a newly-built extension to the house that blend in very well - breakfast is served at an enourmous wooden table in the double-height centre of the house, overlooked by the mezzanine.
Our room was nicely decorated with both a double and a twin, and a lovely bathroom with high quality fittings and a a great shower.
The owner is very friendly and helpful, and seems extremely proud of his property, so I expect it to remain excellent going into the future.

As lovely as the B&B is- nice rooms, clean bathroom, easily found - I found that it was overpriced for what it was. When I arrived I was informed that my room wasn't en-suite which I thought it would be.
The owners are friendly however when I requested that I have breakfast earlier than 8.30am, I felt I had to barter to agree on a time as it seemed an hour earlier was far too early and an inconvenience. This resulted in me having cereal only with no option of any cooked breakfast. The following two mornings I wasn't actually offered any breakfast at all (the table wasn't set and not even juice was offered) and due to me wanting a little something I had to request a small yogurt.
On top of that I just about froze every night and ended up sleeping in a jumper and thick socks.
I am rather annoyed with how I was treated and for £35 a night I was really expecting to be fed. I only got one B of the B&B.

We were recommended Yellow Sands by a very enthusiastic friend who lives near to the property. I duly made a phone booking but had to change the number of nights from 3 to 2 unexpectedly. I verbally agreed £70 per night on the phone and was expecting the bill to reflect this. We were actually charged £90 per night and I was reassured that no other verbal agreement had in fact been made. Very disappointing indeed. We appreciate the concept of a flat rate for everything but considering neither of us had huge 3 course cooked breakfasts it seemed to us both that to charge us £90 a night was rather overdoing the high season banter and indeed did not represent good value for money.
Whilst the property is lovely and immaculately presented we were really cold each night and like others who have reviewed we also had to hunt for the thick socks and jumpers. Tea and coffee was available in the dining room but there were no biscuits or snacks. Again for the price charged this was not encouraging. Sadly we would not return.

We had been guided to this little town by the person at Spynie Palace. He was very chatty and interesting and knew a lot of the Palace, history and the area in general. He recommended Findhorn, and we were lucky to get a room at Yellow Sands only because of a last-minute cancellation.
What a treat it is. The house and rooms are beautiful. The gentleman who runs it (at least we just encountered the man) had been in the hotel business for something like 17 years, so he said that he knew exactly what he wanted when he came to renovate the property to have a B & B. That would explain how the room set-up and the design of the property makes it all work so well.
The rooms were spacious, immaculate, nicely furnished, the bathroom was large (we had an en-suite) and the breakfast was fabulous.
We wished we could have stayed longer.

I had really high hopes for Yellow Sands and visit the area multiple times a year, however I was left feeling ripped off.
Firstly even though it's in the title, the bed breakfast doesn't serve breakfast. Which I had thought would be included in my £72 fee.
On arrival I then found out that even though my booking said a private bathroom, it was in fact a shared bathroom. I spoke to the owner however he firstly didn't believe me (I showed him my email) and then wouldn't move me to a room with a shared bathroom. Even though they were empty.
The place was very well presented and clean. But it doesn't make up for the fact I paid £72 for a single bed.

We stayed one night here in order to visit the Findhorn Foundation, which is within easy walking distance, as is the centre of Findhorn village. Room very comfortable and breakfast very good. Can recommend.

Another great find. While travelling our way around Scotland and visiting the Findhorn Foundation, we stayed at Yellow Sands. It was everything that we had hoped for. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, charming host and delicious breakfast. The location is great. Not al the bedrooms are en-suite, but it worked .

"The room we were in was on the road side and, although we were not disturbed in any way, it may be a problem for some. The room we were in shared a bathroom with others. However, the bathroom and bedroom is so lovely this was not a problem."Read full review
