A warm welcome. The hotel seems to have been renovated so the rooms are nice, clean and everything is new. The heather works very well on windy rainy cold days. Very nice staff. A good breakfast. Served from 8 to 9, this is a bit narrow time. Dinner served from 6 to 8, which is narrow too in Summer time...

Booked meals for two nights and they were excellent, the portions were large and well presented. The menu has a huge choice and they cater for everyone, the staff are excellent and very helpful, the hotel is a bit out of the way at Dounby but the trip there is very worthwhile. The prices are good so visit the Smithfield if you want...

Everything was good. Lovely staff who couldn't have been more accommodating. Warm welcome. Very good and varied choice of food with a focus on local produce. The fish and seafood was especially good. For my friend who is gluten free - there were plenty of options. I had crab chowder which was delicious but to be honest everyone's food was...

Stayed here over three nights whilst on a fishing trip, fishing the lochs of Orkney for wild Brown Trout. Lovely place to stay. Nicely decorated, comfortable, great food, very reasonably priced, extremely helpful hosts and nothing was ever too much trouble!

This is my third visit to the Smithield Hotel. For the price you pay this experience is second to none. The room I occupied WA s small and very comfortable. The cleanliness of the facilities was immaculate. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they are a credit to the hotels owner. Whatever was requested was met...

This small, family-run hotel, with lovely rooms and a wonderful restaurant, is right where you want to stay on Mainland Island, Orkney, if you want to visit all the incredible Neolithic sites (Skara Brae, Standing Stones of Stenness, Maes How, Ring of Brodgar, and many others) in the area. Dounby is a very small town, so it was a great...

Unimposing traditional hotel that serves meals to non residents in the dining room. Extensive menu plus bar meals including many veggie and gluten free dishes. Good range of local and national beers, fair selection of wines. Slow but friendly service from young, inexperienced staff. Food used good ingredients to produce pleasant but average dishes. The pork was very dry, the...

Great food in the restaurant, and the room was exceedingly comfortable. The restaurant is very good indeed, and it fills up with local people eating there of an evening. The wifi service was excellent, the location is central for exploring the islands and 20 minutes from Kirkwall

We really enjoyed our stay. Our room was really nicely decorated - simple, bright and airy. The bathroom was lovely and clean with a good shower. We had dinner in the restaurant - they say between 6 and 8, which means everyone arrived around 7. We booked for 7.45 which turned out well as the people earlier had a long...
