Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The apartment was warm and welcoming - bright and airy, it had everything we needed for a great stay. The owner, Kay, greeted us on arrival, and had left a welcome pack of local produce, which was really thoughtful. This was an ideal base for touring Orkney: it was lovely to come back to a cosy apartment after wild and windy days out! We had a great lunch at the Smithfield Hotel, and there is a handy Co-op just across the road. Castaway Crafts and Alison Moore's Studio are well worth a visit. We also visited a considerable number of Orkney's famous sites - but couldn't get round them all, so we need to come back!

Four of us booked into Kringla3 for a week of walking and sightseeing in Orkney, had not been to the islands for 65 years-- Great to be back. The apartment was very well appointed and lacked nothing, fresh flowers on the table was great. Visited all the usual sights and a trip to the Old Man of Hoy was the highlight, Dounby is a great base with a good pub and Coop and butcher. Hopefully see you soon Kay, Many thanks John Ferguson and 3 friends

Had to change our plans last minute due to COVID restrictions. Kay was very helpful getting us in at the last minute and we were more than pleased with the apartment. Handy in the centre of Dounby and a lovely base for seeing family and a bit of shopping too. Handy to be able to take our dog so likely we will be back again.

We spent two weeks at Christmas and New Year at Kringla in apartment 3. Such a fantastic view looking towards Hoy, spacious and well equipped apartment. We felt at home and had a lovely time and received a very warm welcome. Would recommend and hope to return soon. The apartment is located in Dounby which is so handy for reaching all the main sites. Loved the sunsets and sunrises and visiting the main historic sites such as the Ring of Brodgar , Maeshowe etc. Also loved Castaway Gift and Craft shop in Dounby. Even at this time of year there is so much to do and with a lovely apartment to go back to in the evening. We had a really excellent stay and hope to visit again soon in the summer.

Just spent two wonderful weeks here in the Kringla apt 2 “dog friendly”. I have never been so at home in an apartment until I came to Kringla, attention to detail and anything could possibly want. Very well located to visit all the to do sites. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting good quality, reasonably priced accommodation in Orkney.

We've had previous bad experiences at some holiday locations BUT not here! We were very impressed with the apartment size, quality and range of fittings, cleanliness and the owner Kay's clear wish to make her guests' stay a great experience. It was lovely to wake to the sound of curlews' kettle calls and oystercatchers piping. (Visit in May). We wanted to visit historic sites, both Neolithic and Viking, as wells as watch birds. This location was ideal for all these activities with good roads and driving was a pleasant experience. You can see the surrounding landscape from the lounge window though slightly marred by relatively recent new houses. We were in an upstairs apartment but wheelchair access may be possible downstairs.

Stayed for 4 nights with another couple, immaculately clean upon arrival and met by Kay who shows us around and was very nice, great base to explore Orkney and ample parking, good stock of cupboard basics but a local coop is minutes walk away so nothing was hard to get that we needed. Nice and cosey and comfortable beds and lounge area, noticed a washing machine and dryer handy for people staying longer, good dining area and all the dishes, pots etc you could ever need. I’d definitely recommend a stay here.

Kringla 3 was the perfect place to stay on the Orkneys. The accommodation was spotless, well equipped with lovely views. Everything was done to make the place to feel homely and we really appreciated the fresh flowers and local products such as biscuits and fudge left for us to enjoy. The beds were comfortable and we slept really well during our stay. Dounby was an excellent location. We really appreciated the closeness of the co-op and a good butcher, so we were able to buy food as we needed it. In addition there is a craft shop and jewellery shop to browse round close to the apartments. During our stay we had problems with our car and spent a lot of our time using buses to get about. The free WiFi came in very useful for planning trips. We invested in a weekly stagecoach pass which cost us £20 and allowed us to use as many buses as we wanted. Buses went to Kirkwall from outside the apartment. From Once in Kirkwall you can catch buses and ferries to places further away. Across the road buses took us to Skara Brae, The Orkney Brewery and Marwick Bay, where we walked up to Kitchner’s memorial. To sum up I don’t think we could have picked anywhere better.

Kringla is based in the west of orkney, as they say west is the best. All apartments are excellent. This is our third stay at kringla. A warm welcome from kay, the owner, whan we arrived. Had time to answer any questions we had. Kay gave a daily bulletin on what's going on. A lovely welcome pack was left for us containing orkney products. Kay was very helpful on our stay phone or email no problem. Plenty of parking on site. Kringla apartments are well equipped. Shop and pub in walking distance, we recommend any appartmentts.
