Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Denise was an amazing host! She immediately made us feel right at home and cooked us a terrific local lamb dinner as per our request! She also indulged all our questions about her garden and wonderful house. She provided wonderful, insightful conversation for the night and we would highly recommend staying with her! The only downside was that we had seen the hot tub in some previous traveler's pictures online and were looking forward to a nice soak with a beautiful view, there was no hot tub anymore, but we still got the beautiful views!

A unique B&B with great views. A wee bit isolated but more than made up by the warm welcome that awaits from your fabulous host. She makes you so welcome and at home. Arrive as guests but leave as friends. A mine of information. Great evening chats. Highly recommended.

From the moment you walk in, Denise makes you smile and feel at home. The views from this property are incredible. Denise was charming, helpful and hilarious throughout our stay. I had the best nights sleep I have had in a long time. The rooms are spacious, clean and has everything you need. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious. This place is very worthwhile staying at for a few nights. We will definitely return. Thank you Denise for providing a truly special place.

We stayed 2 nights at this fabulous b&b and wished it could have been more. The minute you step in the door and are welcomed by Denise, the host, you know you are somewhere special. The views from the lounge of Eynhallow Sound and Rousay are magnificent and make this room a wonderful place to sit and view the constantly changing scenery and to chat to the other guests. There was no TVs but they were not missed as the hospitality and comradeship at Castlehill was enough to keep us occupied. Denise supplied us with marvellous breakfasts and dinners. The bedroom was comfortable and had a good wifi signal. Thoroughly recommended!

We stayed for a couple of nights at Castlehill, with its tremendous views and great facilities. Denise was a superlative host: when we had a serious car crash on our second day there she could not have been more helpful, going out of her way several times to ensure that we got through the experience with the minimum of problems. Before this she helped to find us the most interesting spots to visit and provided lovely breakfasts.Highly recommended.

A relaxing and comfortable place to repose, replete with charm, warmth and welcome. A stay here, even one too short as mine was, is sure to give you the sense that this is a destination to return to again and again. I could sit for days here with a book and enjoy the ever changing Orkney weather or take advantage of the location to explore the plethora of activities and sights in these islands.

What a position - what a host!!!! Booked for us by a travel agent so did not know what to expect. Excellent amenities but the deciding factor was the group of residents and the host. We had an incredible 3 nights meals all sitting round the table eating Denise’s excellent food and putting the world to rights. Watch out when trying to find the place - ignore satnav/ postcode and follow Denise’s instructions.

Having stayed here previously in 2010 there was no question of staying anywhere else on Orkney, indeed our entire holiday in the north centred on room availability at Castlehill! Denise is an incomparable host, nothing is too much trouble, and she has a wonderful sense of humour and hospitality for making her guests feel very much at home. My previous review says all you need to know about a stay at Castlehill. This is one place you'll never regret making a booking for!
