Woodwick Mill has been renovated to provide superior self-catering accommodation in a beautiful burnside setting. The environment is quiet and serene with ducks, trout, grey wagtails and the relaxing sound of Woodwick Burn babbling over the flagstone bedrock. The accommodation is finished to an excellent and well-equipped standard. The eco-friendly building is highly insulated and warmed by an hydro-electric tubine and heat pump with solar panels providing hot water. Each apartment has a Spa Bath, separate shower, fridge, freezer, cooker, microwave and Jamie Oliver tableware. There are superb views over the surrounding countryside and neighbouring islands. All double beds are King sized. With ample parking the Mill is 20 minutes drive from each of the two main towns, Kirkwall and Stromness. The self-catering accommodation is suitable for gatherings with each group or family having a separate apartment. The mill dam has been repaired and a fish ladder added.

We spent three nights at Woodwick Mill whilst visiting family in Orkney. Everything about this stylish mill conversion is just right - combining luxury and character with practicality and comfort. We were very impressed with the high quality kitchen and bathroom fittings and fixtures. We cooked a celebration dinner for family and found everything we needed there. We also made good use of the comfortable living room furniture, TV and broadband. Add to all this the peaceful setting alongside a babbling brook, what more can you ask for?!

We have been to Scotland a number of times, but never up to Orkney. We enjoy self-catering accommodations that are unique, and Woodwick Mill did not disappoint. We stayed in the Girnal suite, and could not have been more pleased with the comfort, cleanliness, and amenities provided. A vase of fresh flowers in every window, a current newspaper, fresh milk for our afternoon tea--what a lovely welcome after our drive up from Inverness! The bed was so comfortable, and the location of the mill could not have been more convenient to everything that we wanted to see on this beautiful island. I loved that we could be in either Kirkwall or Stromness within 15 or 20 minutes, and yet were out in nature and surrounded by sheep and cattle, beside a beautiful small river. Fresh, free-range eggs were available within steps of our door, and it was just the most amazing week. Micky has made Woodwick Mill a spectacular destination, and well worth staying in for a relaxing and memorable visit to Orkeny. It was our first visit to Orkney, but definitely won't be our last, and we will be back to Woodwick Mill on subsequent holidays.

We arrived on the same evening as spivvycarl, below (though a little earlier! :) ) and I must agree with him that the weather was amazingly good for October.
I'd been there a fortnight earlier in sun and fierce winds and feared what I might face this week, but it was glorious. I'd been looking forward to 5 nights relaxing in and enjoying this luxurious Mill (we were in Sheafy) as outside the storm might rare and rustle, but it was not to be.
A first morning stroll in warm sunshine down to Woodwick Bay enticed us to stravaig further, following the coast (and using the pavement geology) north towards Gurness Broch (and finding the remains of ANOTHER broch en route). An unintended delight.
This has been a fabulous conversion of a derelict mill. Photos before and after on the walls testify to that. I thought the website's online vids made it look much more spartan than it was in reality, with heated underfloor tiles, everything a kitchen could want and fine local prints on the walls and splendid views in all directions from the various rooms.
Within easy reach of the BIG numbers archeologically and just as handy for lots of little ones I wanted to explore.
About 20 minutes from Kirkwall but only 5 from the handy Tingwall ferry, which we used for a day trip to Rousay.
A GREAT holiday base.

We are enjoying our second visit to Woodwick Mill, listed on Trip Advisor as a Hotel but it is actually self catering accommodation. Micky Austin's award-winning conversion of the Mill at Woodwick is imaginative and superb and our apartment, the Kvern, is wonderfully warm, comfortable and beautifully equipped. Comfortable beds, great shower and jacuzzi bath, super kitchen with premium washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and an extremely comfortable lounge area. What else could we want? You have to be careful to avoid the hens running around as you drive through the gate. Wonderful. Highly recommended. Go to Jolly's on Hatston Industrial Estate in Kirkwall for fresh fish for your supper.

My family and myself have just returned from a week in this fabulous accomodation and I can tell you words will not do it justice.
From the minute we entered the front door we were just blown away at the quality of the mill.
We were staying in the "KIln" appartment which has the most fantastic views from the upstairs living area front and rear.
If you intend to use the house for self catering there is nothing that you will need to bring with you as it has it all right there for you.
Mickey has renovated these appartments to very highest standards and has them maintained likewise.
Orkney was a lovely surprise in itself but to return each evening to this kind of quality was the icing on the cake.
Location wise its halfway between Kirkwall and Stromness and so perfect for the explaration of this fantastic set of Islands.
Will I be back to Orkney and Woodwick Mill ?..YOU BET I WILL !

Have just returned from an amazing couple of days in Orkney with friends.
The Woodwick Mill was faultless, we loved every minute of it. We had such a warm welcome on arrival, even having some Orkney oatcakes, biscuits and milk left for us!
The apartment was so well equipped, there was nothing we needed that wasn't provided for. The views were stunning and lovely large windows meant we could enjoy it to the full!
The location couldn't have been better, it was so central, yet far enough away from Kirkwall and Stromness that we felt we'd escaped city life!
The cost was amazing considering the luxury we stayed in, and during our stay in Orkney we didn't see any other accomodation that even came close to the Woodwick Mill.
We were all equally gutted to leave, but needless to say-we will be back again soon!
I cannot recommend this accomodation highly enough!
Thank you for a fantastic holiday!!

We have just returned from 5 nights in the Sheafy. Gorgeous accommodation clean and comfortable. Micky and Elizabeth made us very welcome. Beautiful views, so relaxing we enjoyed a gentle stroll each evening after dinner with our three boys. We had a day in Rousay and were very fortunate with the weather got fairly close to the seals. Recommend the tea room in Birsay.

We've just returned today from a 4 night stay in Girnal, the smallest of the self-catered apartments at Woodwick Mill. Arriving very late at night, we managed to get very lost (it's not signposted from the main road, but Woodwick House is), but got there eventually! And what a lovely apartment Girnal is. It has beautiful wooden beams, a fabulously well-equipped kitchen and luxurious bathroom (complete with whirlpool bath!).

There were teething issues with the wifi (it didn't work for 2 out of our 4 nights), but that was because a recent storm had played havoc with it. We were fortunate enough to enjoy glorious weather in mid-October! Obviously I can't credit Woodwick Mill for that, but suffice to say that even if the weather had been miserable we'd have been very comfortable staying in, cooried up in front of the tv.

If you want somewhere a bit quieter, in a beautiful mill conversion, yet only a short drive from the main sites, then stay here. If we ever come back we'll definitely return.

Just returned from a week in the Orkney Ilse staying at Woodwick Mill. As could be expected the weather was rather mixed, so it was fantastic to retreat at the end of the day to the high class accommodation at Woodwick Mill. The flat we stayed in was fitted out to a very high standard. It was warm, comfortable and set in a great location. What more could you want?

My wife and I recently spent a week in the Girnal. We were delighted with the very high quality of the accommodation and its unique features. Woodwick Mill is well located in a picturesque part of Orkney with many of Orkney's must see features not far distant. We enjoyed our stay very much and have added Woodwick Mill to the list of places we would like to return to. Micky could not have been more helpful.

Hello, We are a family group of 9 adults and 3 children coming to Orkney 8/11 and 12. Can you accomodate all or some of our group for these two nights? We know we may have to split up our group for lodging. Thank you, Don
