This is without doubt the best restaurant in Orkney. The food was truly excellent. The restaurant is called Skerries and is situated in Harray. I had trio of Orkney. Delicious. Finished off with treacle tart and Orkney ice cream. Followed by Gaelic coffee. A hidden gem. The windows overlook Harray Loch giving fantastic views. Would recommend this to anyone looking...

We were staying in a holiday let nearby, and were pleased to find this place. It was great to sit out and look over the small loch. This is clearly an anglers' venue. The trophy stuffed fish on the wall claimed to be the British record brown trout at 29 lbs. I didn't want to argue. It's hard to think...

Booked evening dinner for 4 only 24 hours in advance. Lovely window table on request for my visitors. Fabulous fish dishes, plaice and scallops declared the best ever, by my guests. Delightful friendly staff, very kindly waited on. Dining experience was simply perfect. Thank you.

Lovely place for lunch with the family. Sat outside in the garden, staff very friendly and accommodating. Was a lovely sunny day on visiting, very peaceful place, beautiful gardens and surroundings. Food 5*

Merkister Hotel was in a beautiful location in the countryside, our room was comfortable and they had local and quirky mugs which really added character. However, negatively there was a constant loud bang from above that lasted our entire stay, and at breakfast when my Dad and I asked to be seated at the empty window seat that had just...

Pleasant location ruined by bizarre eating arrangements. In the dining room you are not allowed to sit at the window tables unless you're there for 3 days. Even though the tables were completely empty, we were not allowed the seemingly reasonable request to move table due to "house rules". Staff were curt and officious in enforcing this arrangement and indeed...

Everything about this hotel was fantastic! From my room overlooking the loch to the food--some of the best fish I've had in my life--to the friendly and helpful staff who made my first visit to Orkney very special--I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to a wonderful place to stay!

Seems strange to write a review about a couple of cups of coffee, but on the strength of the welcome, service, and hospitality recieved I'll definately be back for a few nights stay here at some point. A travelling partner and I merely popped our heads in here for as we had 40 minutes to kill while touring the islands....
