We stayed two nights at the hotel. We received a very helpful e-mail prior to arrival advising of check in arrangements, directions & places to eat. We had a very warm & friendly arrival and our room was excellent. It was spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds & we had no issue with noise. Breakfast is served in a lovely dining room with lots of choice and a very good cooked breakfast. Chef & dining staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to help us. Wonderful hospitality. We will definitely be back and certainly will recommend the Royal Hotel to anyone visiting Stromness.

Large room, comfortable bed, everything was clean. There is noise from the pub downstairs but it quiets down pretty early and you can put in earplugs (we live in a city and are used to street noise). Breakfast was generous and the scones were particularly delicious. Easy walk to/from the Ferry. We would stay here again!

Well located, a short walk from the ferry and close to several coffee shops and the Ferry inn. Comfortable bed, clean room. Nice size, walk-in shower for the UK. Not crazy about the two flights of stairs to the room, could be a problem if you're not easily able to walk. Fantastic breakfast and no understanding of small portions! Fresh scones and croissants as well as a choice of cold cereals, porridge or a full cooked breakfast. Loved it.

This was such a welcoming and friendly place to stay. They were even kind enough to let us do our laundry. Thanks Moira and Scott! Comfortable room with great breakfast and supper is always great at The Ferry Inn.

I will start with the positive side Room is of good size and the breakfast was great that’s where it ends. Bathroom hadn’t been cleaned since previous guest left it. Toothpaste in sink toilet stained. No hot water in the morning all guests said they had same issue. Now for the noise in the evening coming from bar and smokers outside take earplugs it went on right through to early hours. The stale bar smells in the stair area is not pleasant! Not worth the money they charge sadly

The hotel room was a great size with modern bathroom and comfortable bed. The Room was over the hotel bar and there was some noise from the music but it was switched off at 11pm and the guests were respectfully quiet. The breakfasts were superb and freshly cooked. The Haggis was an unexpected bonus. Would definitely recommend the Royal for a short stay.

A lovely pub/hotel conveniently located in the main street of Stromness. Delicious breakfast. Pleasantly furnished room with a comfortable bed. Friendly and helpful staff. The only problem was the noise. We were on the first floor at the front just above the bar which was very noisy during opening hours, and even after it closed for the night, customers would stand in the street under our window shouting to each other, and on one occasion banging on the pub door! Probably the rooms higher up or at the back would be quieter, or it would be OK if you don't mind going to bed late. Other than that, it was a great base for a wonderful holiday.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Nice stay. Our rooms on the top floor were not big but perfectly OK for our needs. Very nice breakfast too in the rather elegant breakfast room. The hotel is connected to a pub with two bars one at the front (which was quite busy) and a much quieter and nicer lounge bar at the back. Noise from the pub was not a problem. Some car parking outside but we left the car overnight in the well lit pay and display car park at the ferry terminal, a few minutes walk away. Stromness has a nice main street and the hotel is on it. We thought Kirkwall was nice too and if visiting the Orkneys again we would probably stay there.

Very nice friendly staff, great location and offered a very nice breakfast. There are a lot of stairs and no elevators, luckily they offered to take our suitcase up and down when asked. Very clean and I really liked everyone there.

Generally an enjoyable stay. Great breakfast and okay room. I had a single room. Very small room in the attic which was fine for me as I quite like “quirky” but the bathroom is a bit too small to be honest. Think a ferry berth bathroom. Also, I didn’t spend much time in my room so I was less bothered. Very thin walls so I could hear neighbours and their arguing into the night. Pre-arrival communication is poor. I had emailed twice before arriving asking if I could store my bags there (ferry arrived in the morning) and had no reply. On arrival I walked up to the hotel (only a few minutes walk from the ferry terminal) to ask if I could leave luggage. Nobody on reception. Rang bell nobody came. Rang hotel (and could hear phone ringing!!!) and nobody answered. Waited maybe 10-15 minutes and kept trying the various options but nobody responded. Walked away with all my bags and came back 15 minutes later after getting a coffee. Went through same routine and ended up giving up. Luckily a local told me that there was left luggage facility in the ferry terminal and I left my bags there for £5.…
