I have been a regular customer at this hotel in the past few months and service and food has been adequate, although varied, quality. The staff have always been friendly but this last visit I was treated rudely and disrespectfully by hotel management and will not be going back again. They may show more courtesy to visitors but certainly not... More

Good location in centre of town, room was fine in the annex, food and service first class, good staff and good public bar as well as lounge, not a lot of parking but we got parked right at front of hotel, will be back.

A colleague and myself recently (August 2016) visited Stromness for business purposes and we stayed here on our second night of the 2 night stay. Although the change of hotel was forced upon us by courtesy of our original hotel being booked up fully, I must say it was a fortuitous change as this hotel was a great improvement on... More

Great service, piping hot food and very good chips. Delicious vegetable lasagna (served in a dish, really hot) salad and chips. Great local beer and reasonably priced wine list. Highly recommended! Tripadvisor, I've said all I want to and don't wish to add more

Lunch served 12 till 2.00pm arrived 2.02pm to be told sorry can't serve you. Good old Scottish hospitality. As I made my way out chef was having fag at back of building must have been knackered. Mind you glad I missed out at £10 for macaroni n chips

I stayed at the Royal for 2 nights and ate for 1 during a round trip of the Scottish Highlands and small detour to Orkney. I would say that Stromness as a place is not what I would see as a tourist port. It is (in my view) very much a working port with a couple of shops, pubs and... More

I would highly recommend a stay at the Royal if visiting Orkney, right from the outset all the staff and the owner were very friendly. I had a lovely room in which I enjoyed a great night's sleep after a fantastic meal in the bar and the breakfast was of the same high standard. I travel all over with work... More

Very friendly welcome, nice and warm bar, and the food is just wonderfully. The waitress was lovely, very helpful and kind. Cannot find any faults at all! The scallops we're superbly well cooked, the bbq sauce is home made with the burger (eat it!), and lovely terrine dessert

The suite over the pub was comfortable but not fancy. It was pretty quiet after 10 pm. The pub was quaint and had a fun crowd for entertainment and a dart board. The fish and chips were pretty good too.The staff was friendly. Very very close to the ferry for an early departure. As usual, pack lightly as no elevator.
