Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed for 3 nights and then asked John the warden if we could stay a fourth. He did everything he could to re-organise and we were able to stay even though things were close to full. With the COVID situation John was very clear and very much on top of the right way to do things safely for everyone and I really appreciated that. The showers were retsricted to single or family group usage at a time and John was in and out cleaning after almost every use.

The views are superb over the glof course to the hills of Hoy and north to the town of Stromness. The site is a 15 minute stroll through the sleepy end of the town to the point. It is exposed, thats very true, and depending on the strength of the wind you may find it noisy at night in the tent but motor homes dont suffer I guess. If you are camping don't be fooled if its nice when you arrive and make sure you pitch correctly. We parked the car on the upwind side to break the wind.

There are no shops nearby, you have to drive into Stromness, so bring everything.

Thanks to John for looking after us and the friendly chats.

We’ve been coming to this site for six years and John and Gemma make you so welcome. The site pitches are a mixture of gravel and grass and are well maintained. The showers are 20p and last for ages with lots of hot water and are spotless. The site is located on the Point with lots of boat and ferry traffic so always something going on. Walking into Stromness is easy with all the essential shops and there is a lot of other local walks. Looking forward to our next holiday.

A very pleasant campsite within walking distance of Stromness. Please follow the signs as you approach so as not to end up bringing your caravan or motorhome through the town's narrow roads!
Pitches are gravel, mostly level, and nicely spaced. There's a large grassy area in the middle for tents.
The amenities block has a lounge with TV and armchairs, board games, and microwave and kettle. There's also free wi-fi. Next door is a laundry room with a sink and commercial sized washer and separate drier (Only £2 for a load of washing or 30 minutes drying).
There are 6 unisex toilet/shower rooms with fabulous electric showers which were free when we were there but usually are charged at £1 for 10 minutes - I would say it would be worth it, the showers are that good.
There's a warden's office and the warden calls in 2-3 times a days for an hour or two each time. If you haven't prebooked there's a plan of the site at the front with available pitches marked.
The only drawback, yes, it is very windy. If you're planning to come with a tent you may have a problem. But that's an issue with the island, not the campsite! Would have no hesitation to return.

We camped on Point of Ness campsite for 2 weeks in July 2022 as a multi-family group. We can't rate this site highly enough. One of the best, friendliest campsites we have ever visited. Jemima (warden) sets the tone beautifully. Helpful, accommodating, no nonsense, chatty and knowledgeable about the area and Orcadian life. The showers were always clean with plenty of hot water (free when we stayed). The lounge is great for charging phones, boiling water and for youngsters to plug themselves into devices. Onsite washing facilities are reasonable at £2 per wash. The wind dries the washing on the line in no time! The site is windy and you do need good anchorage and a weatherproof tent. We had some wet weather with some leakage (this is not the campsites fault!), but the location for Stromness, ferries, watching boats and the seals that visit the harbour every evening more than compensates for a bit of wind. Loved every minute!

Just stayed one night at the end of our holiday. It was a great choice especially for a very cold, windy and later on wet day. Our pitch itself was very exposed ( campervan pitch without hook up) but the facilities block meant that wasn’t a problem. Warm comfortable room to sit in, charge phones etc with a TV and selection of books and games, microwave and a kettle . The washing facilities comprised of several individual rooms each with a toilet, wash basin and shower with underfloor heating. The dishwashing area was adequate but maybe a bit small for the number of pitches. Everything was kept spotlessly clean. Free wi fi in the facilities block.

The facilities block has been completely upgraded and the site as a whole is immaculate. There are six rooms each with toilet, washbasin and shower with underfloor heating. Indoor washing up area and washing machine. Comfortable lounge aimed at campers with free Wi-Fi, television and microwave.

Showers are £1 for 10 minutes which is a shame on top of site fee.

Pitches are nearly all flat and mix of grass and gravel. Some tent pitches. No site Wi-Fi but I had 4G.

As others have said the site has fantastic views over to the mountains of hoy and to passing ships. The drawback is that this means there is no shelter and Orkney is windy even in the summer.

Just there for a short stop straight off the ferry and a booking mix up had me relying on the warden's kindness to find a small pitch on a busy campsite late at night. The warden was brilliant and sorted everything out.

Point of Ness is in a great location, pretty good facilities - be prepared for strong winds and stunning views!

The website for Point of Ness sends you to a booking form which, crazily, offers camping slots for Birsay Outdoor Centre and Campsite which is 30 minutes drive away. Both campsites seem fine BUT I wanted to book for Point of Ness, I went to their website, booked on a slot, turned up at Stromness for Point of Ness, drove around the campsite and eventually realised what had happened - the website mixes up slots for both campsites together ... MADNESS. So it's really easy to end up booked on the wrong campsite. We only worked it out because somebody was already in what we thought was our slot and because the site map didn't look right.

From driving off the ferry turn right and take the Back Road to the campsite to avoid getting stuck in the beautiful cobbled narrow streets.
John made us so welcome, ran us through all the amenities. All facilities available including a lovely lounge with tv, kettle and microwave. Bathrooms very clean and free to shower. Washing machine and tumble dryer. Surrounded by the sea and golf course with a great walk up the coast where dogs can be off lead.
The ferry and fisher boats come right past which is great to watch. Nice hardstanding and grass pitches. A lovely 15-20 minute into town with restaurants and pubs. The peedie chippie van comes on Saturday to the Harbour and was amazing. Book onto the Ferry Inn for a real meal treat.
Thank you John, fabulous holiday.

The facilities block is immaculate and well equipped. The views from the site are amazing. It’s well maintained and tidy. It dropped a star due to the ugly line of cones at the south end. Not sure what purpose they serve, but planters or a wooden gate might be a more aesthetically pleasing option. The other niggle is lack of a barrier at the entrance, meaning there was constant vehicle movements by non campers. People parked up at all times of day and night to head off to walk dogs. At pitch 31 the noise of car doors opening and closing began to grate just a bit. The red land rover with the loud creaking back door, which the driver slammed was almost offered a squirt of WD40! The other issue was camper vans slinking in late, parking at the south end (blocking the view for several pitches) , and trundling off again before the wardens arrived. I suspect there must be a camper-van website giving just this advice. This could be largely resolved with a barrier.
