We stayed for 3 nights and felt at home straight away. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped with very comfortable beds. The live traditional music on Saturday night was a bonus. Would highly recommend staying here.

My wife and I are just home following a fantastic weekend in Papa Westray and equally fantastic stay in the Hostel. We were met at the airport and got a lift to the hostel where we checked in and were shown around. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay, offering tips and info on the island. We took some food with us but if we had realised that the shop adjacent to the hostel was so good we would have bought all our food in the shop. The room and en-suite were first class as was all the facilities in the hostel. Had the bonus of live music in the lounge with the local band - excellent (and the bar was open!). Would totally recommend Papay for a visit and the hostel to stay.

Jenny and I spent a superb weekend at this brilliant hostel on 1/2 April. A great room, very comfortable bed and the facilities generally were first-class. A roomy dining area, the kitchen was outstanding and there was a fine lounge to sit in and watch the starry sky. Good Wifi, lots of books to read and activities going on. It helped that the weather was sunny, but this is as good a hostel as we have ever stayed in. Jennifer, the manager, was very welcoming, enthusiastic and helpful. All the locals we met were very friendly and there was a real buzz about the place. A great visit to an exceptional island!

When my friend suggested stopping in a hostel the snob in me started to panic, and my imagination started to create pictures of dormitories reminiscent of 'The Great Escape'. What we arrived to was amazing. A huge clean and tidy space with a bedroom worthy of placing in some nice hotels. Being early February we were the only 3 people staying this night which gave us the run of the facilities and with the local community shop next door we were quickly stocked with food and drink to ensure we didn't go hungry. The huge kitchen and communal area was perfect and clearly even when full there would be plenty of space for many people to cook, eat and relax. Jennifer, who manages the facility was on hand to not only meet us and show us around but also give us local advice on the walks around this beautiful island and the sights to be seen around it. If you're reading this then you've probably already made the decision to visit the wonderful island of Papa Westray. In my opinion your next decision should be easy, stay here and just relax.

Beltane Hostel has undergone a fantastic renovation which provides more toilet and showering facilities for the pods and tent camping. The new roof, doors and windows plus insulation has now created a comfortable winter haven as well as a summer delight. The inside is tight and cosy, no drafts from the vicious North wind. The heating works well and provides warmth for human guests, dog and wet clothes. Perfectly formed with a neutral but not industrial decor. Beds are comfortable, the electric showers provide plenty of hot water, the kitchens are clean and well stocked with pots and pans. Our first winter sojourn to Papay was relaxing, we managed a couple of decent walks, saw 40 or 50 ring necked plovers and adult and juvenile selkies. Just getting out and walking under the brilliant winter sky and breathing the fresh air was freeing. Truly felt relaxed. Met some terrifically interesting and nice folk. The Papay band, Poor Man’s Corner, sounds great and is tighter than ever.
