I only visited the bar, didn't stay in the hotel, but was made very welcome. Mark, the landlord, recognised me from my visit a month before. It was very busy, and I didn't have time to wait on food, but Mark went out of the way to make sure that I got something. That was very welcome considering I had... More

Lively pub/Inn now with Tangles cafe open through the day. Food is good pub fare, and the 'Fish and Chips' evenings on a Wednesday and Saturday are not to be missed. Sunday roast lunch is another highlight. It's a cosy place to sit with your pint and look out on the bay. Mark and Julia are friendly hosts who go... More

Firstly it was open...Wednesdays Thursday Friday out of season. The welcome was genuine and we were seated in a comfy room.lunch was fan...homemade soup Panini's bacon and homebaking.excellent value. The main bar has huge windows over looking the sea. If their Sunday lunch is as good we will have to make a special journey back. Well done.

Sanday is fortunately rather a flat island, which helped because we walked from the campsite at Ayres Rock (the Orkney one, not the Ozzie one btw) to the pub for Sunday lunch at the Kettletoft, and all the more so on the way back, after quite a few beers. We had a brilliant traditional roast dinner, turkey and/or beef, roast... More

Stayed here one winter a couple of years back. I remember it as very clean and comfortable and good value (although don't expect high luxury - it's an inn/pub but perfectly adequate). Hosts couldn't have been more welcoming. Wish I could have stayed longer and explored more of the island. I recommend the inter-island flights!

During a summer holiday last year, we ate at the Kettletoft on a friend's recommendation- an excellent tip! The fish was beautifully fresh and the chips were deliciously crispy. It was very reasonably priced and staff were friendly. The place definitely echoes the atmosphere of George Mackay Brown's books- quirky, small community, but delightfully welcoming. This place deserves to do... More

Having never been to the Island of Sanday before our trip , I was apprehensive due to it being so isolated and not knowing what to expect, I was more than pleasantly surprised! The Kettletoft Hotel being a family run business was an added gem to an already fantastic island ! The owners Mark & Julia could not make you... More

Fabulous weekend in beautiful Sanday. Hotel was clean, service excellent and the seafood beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Reviewers would do well to remember this is a small family run Island hotel and if you do not embrace the beauty of Orkney and all its quirkiness nowhere you will be good enough. Mark & Julia are great hosts and made... More

Sailing to Shetland, we stopped off on Sanday to try to watch Andy Murray in Wimbledon final. Long walk to hotel! Big tv in bar, fantastic coastal view. Well-kept Orkney real ale by a landlord who knows how to keep it in best condition. Very helpful - landlord drove to pick up one of us who was delayed and in... More

We were in Orkney for our holiday, staying on another island. Had done all the fantastic archaeology, and Neolithic sites, decided to go to Sandy for the day. We were not let down by the incredable scenery. A truly untouched little gem. We stopped at the kettletoft hotel for a pint. Didn't stay overnight, so can't pass comment on the... More
