Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a perfect stay here for four delightful days - hiking, exploring, bird-watching and generally enjoying this idyllic island and neighbouring Papa Westray. The rooms are well appointed - we had everything we needed. Excellent beds, linens, shower, and coffee/tea in the room. Breakfasts were excellent, and all the meals we had here were terrific - fresh local fish being a special treat. Extremely relaxing and pleasant. And very good, helpful, informative staff. We love the Pierowall!

I stayed at the Pierowall Hotel for two nights, very friendly and accomodating. Decent facilities, clean and tidy, flexible to store luggage on arrival. Asked if I wanted to eat later so recommended booking a table. The food was great, they serve a variety of Orkney and Swannay beers. I would definitely stay again if visiting Westray. Great location too.

I recently spent a lovely night in the Pierowall Hotel in Westray. The beds are soft and comfy, the rooms warm and very clean, the welcome and hospitality were wonderful and the evening meal was delicious. Thanks for a very comfortable night!

Staff was rude and barely ever made appearance; got completely ignored on occasion which made me stressed and feel disliked when I had done nothing. They also wouldn’t give me what I would ask for, made a horrible comment while making it too so I got uncomfortable and left.

There aren’t many options of places to stay on Westray but the Pierowall Hotel was everything I needed during my stay. My room looked out to the sea which is always nice. Staff were so helpful and friendly and a delight. Be sure to request a table for dinner as it’s the only place around and frequented by locals and gets busy.

We stopped at the Pierowall hotel for some lunch while on a day trip to the island and we loved it. I would even go so far that it was some of the best fish I have ever had. The fish is caught off the coast of Orkney and is super fresh. I had the monkfish in breadcrumbs which was delicious. So juicy and moist. My husband was also raving about his haddock. Definitely recommend stopping by

What a relaxing stay we had at the recently refreshed Pierowall Hotel! The hospitality was incredible and the surroundings comfortable. The pub is a clear hub for locals and the food was both reasonably priced and well cooked. The best kind of traditional hotel, with friendly staff that get to know you, clean and cozy rooms, and impeccable service. It’s the kind of place you’d love to come back, year on year… and perhaps we just might!
