We have just come back home from a wonderful stay at the Dornoch Station Hotel. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly at the front desk and after signing in we were given the keys to one of the most beautiful rooms within the hotel. The room was on the third floor and could be accessed by either a lift or stairs and was cosy and beautifully decorated, with breathtaking views out towards the sea.

After settling in we arranged to have dinner at the hotel and this was provided in the bar area. The meal we had was exceptional, with it being freshly prepared and beautifully presented. We found the selection on the Menu was really good, reasonably priced and with plenty of options for starters, mains and desserts, with something to suit all palates. The service from the dining staff was top rate, with them being very pleasant and professional. I must say that the steak and triple cooked chips I requested was mouthwatering, as was the Chicken Balmoral, which my husband opted for. Our table was ideally placed to show the stunning scenery outside of the hotel over the sea, and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. The drinks selection on offer was excellent, and with plenty of choice including a selection of cocktails, soft drinks and whiskies.

The following morning we enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the tastefully decorated dining room, from a varied selection with something to suit all tastes and this set us up for the day ahead.

Considering the hotel has only been open a short while, this is all the more remarkable. I would strongly recommend to anyone if you want to stay at a special place in the area then Dornoch Station is the only place to stay, and we will certainly be returning again.

Booked as part of a Golfbreaks deal we had two night B&B.

Every single fixture and fitting oozes class and a nod to Highland hospitality. I get the impression that no restrictions were in place when the designers got to work.

I cannot recommend highly enough. Although my bedroom wasn’t the biggest it was spacious enough for a single golfer.

With a very smart, opulent bathroom, plush, soft , squidgy bed, soft lighting and heavy, dark luxurious curtains it’s a sleepers paradise.

Breakfast was simply perfect. Evening drinks were very reasonable with a great selection of Single Malt Whisky available.

Those responsible for the resurrection of this hotel deserve praise and should be hugely proud. It is a beautiful place to stay and I’d be sad to never return.

Anyone escaping to the far north of Scotland must try the Dornoch Station.

Staying at a different hotel in Dornoch we decided to book dinner at this new to us Hotel after hearing of it’s extensive renovation.
On entering you are literally blown away by the standard of the interior it truly is breathtaking.
We were greeted warmly by a gentleman in reception and that is where it ended.
We were directed not accompanied to the bar where we met a delightful young man who was chatty and he supplied our cocktails.
We decided past our dinner time reservation we would find our way to the dining room ourselves as no one came to take us in .
On entering we were showed to our table where we ordered dinner.
My dinner was delicious but I have to say service was abrupt .
On leaving the dining room reception was empty of staff and we had to locate our own coats.
We had no goodbye.
To say it was a disappointing visit would be an understatement. We had such high hopes .
So 10/10 for the interior but staff leaves a lot to be desired.
So no going back for us.
We were staying at The Royal Golf Hotel nearby where it was a complete reverse re the staff.
Where we felt valued and welcomed.

The hotel had only been open 3 weeks since undergoing refurbishment so there were teething problems. We had reserved 2 rooms through the hotel’s website and special offer of “ Discover Dornoch Station. This promised upgrades to superior rooms and £20 per person contribution to dinner at the hotel. Reception staff did not know if the rooms we were allocated were “ superior” and were unaware of the contribution towards meal costs. The room my wife and I were allocated was at the back of the hotel. It had two small windows one of which was covered in builder’s cement, had no toilet roll holder and no place for toiletries within the shower cubicle. The corridor outside the room smelled of damp. All of this was reported to staff but no one from the management team contacted us. Similarly we had to pay the full price for the 3 evening meals the 3 of us had. I have tried to contact the management team subsequent to our stay through the hotel’s contact website but no one has come back to us. Management seem uninterested!

On arrival young receptionists explained was new, but was unable to print off a receipt for the extra £100 ontop of stay which we were unaware of. Room smelled very damp and had wet towels on floor outside room at fire door. Although we informed member of staff, nothing was addressed. Breakfast was a shambles for service, which was a shame as food was delicious. Food was wrong when arrived to table and then took at least another 20/30mins to rectify, by which time my partner had finished, attitude of resturant manager was unfortunately off hand and at no point were we asked if more coffee tea etc needed or if everything ok. Jam and marmalade individual pots on table had already been opened and partially used.
Still waiting for the refund of £100, even though we did not use any of it, as we chose to eat out on second day.

We stayed at Dornoch Station beginning the 2nd day that this Marine and Lawn branded hotel was open for business. The service was at “Rusacks Level” from Day One and the meals at the Golden Gorse were excellent - rhe pork chop was so tasty I ordered it again on our last night as we enjoyed just hanging out at the bar late afternoon and early evening. As one would expect from M and L, the rehab of this previously tired hotel is first class - custom carpet, the custom wood work, rebuilt patio to look like the original hotel from 100 years ago, etc … the artificial grass putting green they have out front is huge and rolls amazing log true to speed of local greens. Can’t wait to come back and see how the landscape improvements turn out as I look out over the first hole of RDGC!!!! Congrats and thank you to the Dornoch Station team - you nailed it!

Helpful charming staff. Exceptional room decor and facilities. Restaurant food was flavoursome and well presented, a little expensive but worth the extra cost. Location is perfect with golf course and sea views and near enough the town centre to allow a gentle stroll there before dinner.

Quite simply, this hotel was outstanding. We visited in low season which benefitted from an exceptionally good value DBB package with late checkout. Having stayed pre-refurbishment, I was interested to see how the new owners had taken the hotel forward from its abysmal previous state. What a difference ! An incredible investment has been made, turning this hotel into a luxurious, must-visit venue. Even standard rooms matched the very best accommodation available in other luxury hotels. Very high quality standard of fittings in bedroom and bathroom and the room was very comfortable. A tasty, fine dinner awaited us with their own creative expressions of classic dishes. Breakfast was out of this world, setting us up for a day of not needing to eat ! Service was exemplary with a friendly, attentive and professional service offered by every member of staff, without exception. Public areas are well presented and offer smart and comfy seating making this a must-stay luxury stay for those travelling the NC500. Gets me back to my opening description of outstanding in every aspect. This hotel has a place amongst the best I’ve ever experienced.

We had a amazing stay at the Dornoch Station Hotel! The hotel has just been refurbished to an extremely high standard and it totally exceeded our expectations . The style is classically Scottish and traditional but very stylish and modern too. Such a clever combination. The public areas had a great ambiance and the staff were warm and welcoming. The vast snooker room was amazing and is at the end of the bar area, so is a perfect facility for any rainy days or evenings.
The food was absolutely delicious, I can’t praise it enough. Everything on the plate tasted great and there was a choice to suit all palates. The waiting staff couldn’t do enough to help and were attentive and friendly at all times. Breakfast was amazing too, so much choice for both continental and cooked options. Even the coffee was smooth and tasty! I believe that the locals in the area are also singing the restaurants praises and quite rightly too!
The hotel overlooks the golf course and sea and is a short walk from the lovely small Scottish town of Dornoch with lovely independent quality shops.
I absolutely can’t wait to go back and stay at this hotel again!
