Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Helpful charming staff. Exceptional room decor and facilities. Restaurant food was flavoursome and well presented, a little expensive but worth the extra cost. Location is perfect with golf course and sea views and near enough the town centre to allow a gentle stroll there before dinner.

Lovely hotel. Restaurant food good, but not much choice and not very exciting menu for the standard of the hotel or the prices. A good menu would be a game changer with tourists and locals as it is a lovely restaurant area and bar.

We have just come back home from a wonderful stay at the Dornoch Station Hotel. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly at the front desk and after signing in we were given the keys to one of the most beautiful rooms within the hotel. The room was on the third floor and could be accessed by either a lift or stairs and was cosy and beautifully decorated, with breathtaking views out towards the sea. After settling in we arranged to have dinner at the hotel and this was provided in the bar area. The meal we had was exceptional, with it being freshly prepared and beautifully presented. We found the selection on the Menu was really good, reasonably priced and with plenty of options for starters, mains and desserts, with something to suit all palates. The service from the dining staff was top rate, with them being very pleasant and professional. I must say that the steak and triple cooked chips I requested was mouthwatering, as was the Chicken Balmoral, which my husband opted for. Our table was ideally placed to show the stunning scenery outside of the hotel over the sea, and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. The drinks selection on offer was excellent, and with plenty of choice including a selection of cocktails, soft drinks and whiskies. The following morning we enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the tastefully decorated dining room, from a varied selection with something to suit all tastes and this set us up for the day ahead. Considering the hotel has only been open a short while, this is all the more remarkable. I would strongly recommend to anyone if you want to stay at a special place in the area then Dornoch Station is the only place to stay, and we will certainly be returning again.

Stayed for 2 nights with my husband just before St Valentines Day and it was a perfect getaway. The room was spacious and that kind bed was one of the best beds I've ever slept in. Everything is stylish and clean. The staff are incredible and the beef tartar from their restaurant is out of this world. My husband also really enjoyed their thick cut house chips. Take your time to explore Dornoch too - cute little shops, hot chocolate shop and take a walk on the beach. If you are lucky to catch a sunny morning, it is just wonderful :)

Quite simply, this hotel was outstanding. We visited in low season which benefitted from an exceptionally good value DBB package with late checkout. Having stayed pre-refurbishment, I was interested to see how the new owners had taken the hotel forward from its abysmal previous state. What a difference ! An incredible investment has been made, turning this hotel into a luxurious, must-visit venue. Even standard rooms matched the very best accommodation available in other luxury hotels. Very high quality standard of fittings in bedroom and bathroom and the room was very comfortable. A tasty, fine dinner awaited us with their own creative expressions of classic dishes. Breakfast was out of this world, setting us up for a day of not needing to eat ! Service was exemplary with a friendly, attentive and professional service offered by every member of staff, without exception. Public areas are well presented and offer smart and comfy seating making this a must-stay luxury stay for those travelling the NC500. Gets me back to my opening description of outstanding in every aspect. This hotel has a place amongst the best I’ve ever experienced.

Lovely warm welcome, gorgeous renovations done and the place smelt amazing! Will start with the few disappointing things - the original room was fine however the radiator was really loud. When we went to the bar my partner was served a flat pint, it was very obviously flat so hard to understand why it was served. There seemed to be some confusion amongst staff if the bar and restaurant were both open for dinner service, it was confirmed later they were and we were booked in however it wasn’t clear which one our booking was at so had to follow it up at reception. There were 2 main dishes not available which from a small menu and the hotel being quiet was disappointing. Now for the positives - room change was rectified quickly and thanks to the general manager Rob, we enjoyed a suite with a lovely view across the course and beach. The food was INCREDIBLE and service during dinner was great, very attentive and friendly. We had the sourdough and salted butter, scallops and beef tartar to start then the steak and cod for main, followed by the custard tart and chocolate mousse. Some of the best food we have ever enjoyed. The bar staff were also fab as well as the night porter who looked after us late into the evening! THANK YOU! Breakfast the next day also lived up to the height of the night before, great selection at the continental buffet and good menu. Food was lovely and fresh. Overall the positives out-way the disappointments and we will definitely be back!

The hotel was amazing and the renovation looked beautiful. The wood paneling everywhere and tartan gives a luxurious Scottish feeling. I managed to have a shot on their new putting green in front of the hotel and even in the Scottish climate it held up well. The rooms were a great size with ennough furniture to relax in without the main focus being the bed. The bar is well stocked and has a lovely snooker table and lounge to relax in. The restaurant is beautifully styled and offered some great options for dinner, I highly recommend the steak as it was cooked to perfection. 5* highly recommended
