About

#1 of 4 Speciality lodging in Durness
These spectacular lodgings, well, they’re the stuff of dreams, every bit as breathtaking as the land they sit in. This is the very tip of Scotland, of soaring mountain, aquamarine seas & views that stretch for miles under a vast sky. It is one of the most beautiful places you will encounter on our planet.

I consider myself to be a seasoned traveller having been to more places than the average both at home and overseas (short and long haul). Without a doubt Croft 103 is in the top three of places I have been worldwide and definitely the best in Europe. It is a fabulous property in an absolutely gorgeous landscape. Up there with the Maldives but much closer to home. We stayed for a week at Hill Croft. The location on the hillside above Loch Eriboll looking across to Ben Hope is stunning. The full height widows along the front of the Croft afford panoramic views across the Loch surpassed only by the view from the outside bath - much better than any hot tub! Peace and quiet was the order of the day, disturbed only by a couple of Red Deer who called to visit us. Our dogs loved roaming the large field in front of the Croft. Inside the decor, furnishings, fixtures and fittings are superb. All we could say to each other on arrival was 'wow'. Craftsman made furniture, luxury bedding on the emperor bed, quality towels and toiletries, best quality kitchen items, crockery made by a local artisan - everything our stay needed. Our stay was to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and we dined on the finest local produce - freshly caught local scallops, lobster, langoustines and salmon. Fantastic. I have only ever been back to one place - the Maldives. I rate Croft as highly and am looking to book again - next time I want to try Shore Croft. Treat yourself - you won't regret it.

We have just had a week in The Shore Cottage. It’s breathtaking. It’s the most stunning place to stay. You could sit and watch the outside for hours. The facilities are fab. Plenty of towels. Bathrobes. Everything has been thought of. Great Sonos sound system in all the areas. The bath outside was amazing and every night we made use of it. It’s a long long way to drive from London and it’s the most isolated area I’ve ever been to but an extraordinarily amazing experience.

Was lucky to pick up a late cancellation to this fantastic Croft. We stayed during the C-19 pandemic and Fiona arranged a contactless checkin, talked me through the very intensive cleaning process, all giving me the absolute assurance we were safe. The accommodation is faultless, perfect for two to spend quality time together. We had preordered meat and fish and the portions were generous and fabulous vfm. The only thing I didn’t find was kitchen tongs and a pastry brush... so no complaints. Cocktail glasses, cocktail shakers and a fridge with an ice dispenser was such a treat. The outside bath was amazing but pick your time carefully to avoid peak midgy time, the ambiance of one of our baths was ruined by them! We loved the log burner in the evening with plenty logs and kindle supplied. The bed was huge and sooooo comfortable. A light but cosy ‘soak and sleep’ duvet with linen bedding added luxury. We were reluctant to leave the lodge but made ourselves for a few hours each day. The pebble edged Loch Eriboll is worth exploring. Head to the lonesome tree to get your personal access (the teapots significance was not lost!). We walked on deserted beaches with crystal clear waters, played golf and visited the craft village. The spar shop provided everything we needed and we also arranged one takeaway meal from Sango Oasis which made a nice change from cooking. We were so sad to leave this perfect oasis behind. If you can find a free week, take it quick!! .

Arrived home yesterday after spending a truly magical week at Hill Cottage where time stood still. The perfect place to relax, reflect and pause from the everyday and immerse in the surrounding nature and wildlife. As soon as we arrived we felt relaxed and grounded and let our surroundings dictate our pace. The cottage has been very thoughtfully designed and the craftsmanship and artisan features throughout are delightful. The enormous bed demanded admiration, a beautifully handcrafted masculine iron frame that supported a sumptuous feather topped mattress was such a contrast. The most comfortable bed we have ever slept in, only the desire to photograph the view beyond could prise us from its cocoon when we woke. Throughout our stay we fully appreciated what Sutherland and the Cottage had to offer. The most memorable being the solitude, the vast vistas from the many local viewpoints, cloud watching from the comfort of the lounge chairs and of course having a warm bath outside amongst the heather and bees. Delightful. Oh and on our last day it was wonderful to see a dolphin swim around the loch whilst having dinner but we couldn't see any others with it! We have had the time to immerse ourselves in photography, painting and of course the joy of having some freedom as covid restrictions ease. One of our first holidays together without our 2 now grown up kids Croft 103 felt like a fully deserved self indulgent treat and would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat. An extremely well run operation and huge thanks to Fiona and Robbie Mackay.

We had the most memorable stay at Croft103 in February. Generally wouldn't head somewhere like this in the Winter but this place is fantastic, rain, hail, snow or shine (all of which we had throughout the week). The perfect opportunity to relax and recharge in an exclusive and private setting, eat some fabulous local produce and experience the wild weather from the comfort of the sofa (or bath tub!) . Absolutely stunning views of Loch Eriboll with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets over the valley and surrounding snow covered mountains. Plenty to do and see around the area and we spotted loads of wildlife which was a bonus. Fiona is very welcoming and helpful. Could not recommend this place more! My first visit to Scotland and one I won't forget.
