Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Super cosy room with very comfortable beds and good and very sweetly decorated facilities with kettle, small biscuits and hot chocolate as well as tapped water. From our window we could see sheep and rabbits outside in close distance. The hosts Hannah & Jack put a lot of emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly ambience, which also showed in the shower (here the pressure was medium good, but the water was nice and hot). A special highlight here was definitely the food: At breakfast, you were given various suggestions for a menu with cooked Scottish breakfast (our favourite: omelette with bacon or tomatoes), and there were also plenty of toast and cereals as well as extremely tasty orange juice, in addition to hot drinks. And also the dinner, which has to be booked separately, was fantastic! We were booked there for each of our 4 nights and the menu offered, among other things, huge burgers, super tasty fish & chips and yummy veggie risotto. Jack's cooking is enormously tasty and the portions were also big enough to fill you up in the best possible way after a hard day's hiking.

The standout part of this B&B is their food! Breakfast is excellent and the sort of thing you look forward to in the morning, there’s plenty of options and it’s great to get away from the usual cooked breakfast offered in most places. They offer an evening meal (which is great as there’s not many places to eat here - none were open when we were here). The food is excellent and they cater for allergies etc. It’s the best meal we’ve had on the trip and at a fair price! The rooms are nicely decorated and beds comfortable. The bathroom we had could do with sone modernising but was in full working order. The rooms were tidy and very clean The rooms don’t have a TV in them, which is unusual but they have a nice lounge you can use, which we did with other guests. We would happily return!

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Wild Orchid Guesthouse in September 2023. We strongly recommend it as a place to stay and dine at. It is owned and operated by a husband and wife team. The rooms were clean, bright and nicely decorated. Everything worked. The breakfasts and dinners served in their dining room were excellent, offering much more in dining experience than one would expect from a guest house. Top notch chef. The rooms, food, service and hospitality were excellent, all at a reasonable price and in a good location. The next time we are in Durness, this is where we'll stay.

Lovely comfortable guest house on the fringe of the beautiful Durness village, run by the welcoming Hannah and Jack. Plenty of car parking. Food excellent, and generous (both breakfast and evening meal). Our room was clean and cosy and the (small) shower room also clean and well maintained. Durness is a lovely location, clean beaches, headlands. Hope to return in the future for a longer stay, and will use the Wild Orchid again.

I have so many wonderful things to say about the Wild Orchid Guest House - we were absolutely delighted with our stay and the fantastic hospitality from Hannah and Jack. The food was incredible, the best veggie burger I’ve ever had and the breakfast was top notch. The fact that it was included in the price made this stay incredibly good value for money. The room was clean, had everything we needed and was decorated beautifully. Out of all the places we have stayed along the NC500 this has to be the best one yet.

Wild Orchid Guest House is a wonderful place. A warming welcoming is waiting for you. We had a double room. Was small but had enough space for us. The bed was not big but very comfortable. We had Dinner and breakfast there. Very delicious and fresh cooked food with local products. Every single bite was a pleasure and a taste experience.

A very nice property. Rooms small, but well furnished and homely. The food is good and the place very clean and well maintained. The reception when we arrived- early but cest las vie- was disappointing, as we were firmly waved away and told 'no, no, you cant check in now'. Even before we asked a question or the person started by identifying themselves. That was an unfortunate start. The food etc and breakfast was top notch, but generally there was a notable lack of friendliness or engagement you usually get in a hospitality setting. Which was peculiar. Maybe it was the rain! Durness itself is charming, with great cliff walks and caves. But things to do are reasonably limited, so probably more a 1/2 day visit type place, but charming for all that- great beach walks especially notable.🌊

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to hear you didn't fully enjoy your stay with us, but are happy to hear you enjoyed our food and rooms. Perhaps had you not chosen to ignore the information on our website, emails and the several signs at the front door telling you check in is from 4pm, you may have found our hospitality to be very warm and friendly. There are many reasons check in is from 4pm, and when attempting to check in at 2pm, you will be asked politely to come back later. As for your remarks about Durness having limited things to see and do, it is clear to us you had not done your research before coming to one of the most beautiful and interesting parts of the country.

We were greeted upon arrival by Jack, who was a brilliant cook. Hannah was lovely too, she served our breakfast and evening meals. Both were friendly and approachable. Our room was at the front overlooking the small carpark and road. It was a nice room and spacious bathroom. No TV, which we did miss in a morning to catch up with the days weather forecast before we started our day (there is a lovely little guests living room to sit in with a TV though) We enjoyed breakfast in their lovely conservatory, and a couple of nights we loved the evening meals. There was outdoor seating too.

Lovely guest house. Hannah and Jack are perfect hosts. Our room was lovely and clean overlooking the front of the property. No tv in bedrooms which is a nice touch but you could relax in the lounge area and watch tv there. Good location. The evening meal and breakfast were excellent with a good choice offered.
