Glamping is glamorous camping. The site is set in Glenurquhart by Loch Ness close to the beautiful Glen Affric. Glamping is the ideal compromise between camping and luxury accommodation. The accommodation units are called Armadillas and have full en suite facilities, underfloor heating TV, DVD, iPod dock, fridge and a fantastic view. Breakfast is available for those who are not into making it themselves. The area is a haven for walking and cycling.

Where to start... Owners never wore masks, came into room and touched things such as information booklet when checked in - also entered room whilst we were out with no notice saying they’d clean during stay (no do not disturb sign provided if you didn’t want this due to COVID, although not sure what was even done as bed was never made etc?) No hot tub available even though advertised on website video for The Stables - nonchalantly told “oh we’ve not had that for a while” - this is the main reason I booked so EXTREMELY disappointed with this. Not a word of sorry for false advertising either! Sawing logs with a TABLE SAW outside our room at 8.30am for an hour until we got out of bed and told the owner to stop - this blew our minds! How could you be so inconsiderate to guests who are paying a lot of money to “relax”... Heating controlled by owners, have to phone to have switched on, this is crazy in winter months. Give your guests control of their own rooms! Owner didn’t even know what the heating timer schedule was! Cobwebs with spiders all over room coving, earwig in bathroom on final morning. Bugs, or what appeared to be bugs, on ceiling above shower. Phoned one morning at 09:18 to report multiple issues, no response til 12:18 (non existent emergency response). Couldn’t be bothered phoning again as never made to feel very welcome, any time we saw owners they didn’t smile or say hello. Felt rather awkward and like an outsider. Paid for entire Stables suite but twin room was locked inside property. Pretty sure I paid for the entire place, not sections of it... What if my friend and I had stayed rather than my partner and I? Would I have had to request this room to be unlocked? Ludicrous. Broken panel in kitchen cabinet, shower pole came apart if you tried to adjust shower height. These were the main concerns but overall, severe lack of COVID-19 hygiene and awareness, cleanliness was poor and wasn’t made to feel welcome. I so looked forward to this trip, and was so so disappointed. Not worth the money, maybe the Armadillas are but definitely won’t be back to The Stables. Only good part was the animals... Also, as per your responses to reviews, I have worked in hospitality and you cannot tell me the above is acceptable or excusable, even for a farmhouse.

My friend and I stayed here in a glamping pod for 2 nights at the end of september instead of our usual benidorm trip. We both had a great time and the pods were fantastic. We would hesitate about booking again.

Boyfriend and I booked 2 nights here for a little get away. The pods are modern, bright and cosy! Thoroughly enjoyed being able to sit outside with our own fire too. Super peaceful and gorgeous! 10/10!

Me and my partner stopped here for 4 nights and it just wasn’t long enough, we could have extended for a further few it was just that amazing! We stayed in the stables which is a cottage type place, super king bed, sofa in front of the bed; tv, DVD player and free view channels on sky, fully equipped kitchen, cooker, hob ect, and a separate bathroom (shower, toilet, sink). Apparently the room can fit 6 with an extra room being available but we didn’t use that due to it just being the two of us. Outside is a Patio area, with two benches and a fire pit/bbq which we didn’t get round to using but it was a lovely area. We paid a little extra to have use of the sauna 2 nights and the pool 2 nights (few minutes walk away from the site) both so worth doing!! The pool was lovely and the sauna was needed after long days on our feet walking! We got to brush the highland cows, and just across the main road is a lovely seating area next to the river. We used the indoor bbq hut which was just wonderful, dry, warm and so authentic! Highly recommend giving it a go if your lucky enough to stay! The site is in a great location for visiting a lot of areas, driving: 40 minutes from culloden, 5 minutes from drumnadrochit/loch Ness, 30 minutes from Inverness, 45 mins from fort George, 1 hour 30 from Elgin cathedral, lots of whisky distillery’s in the surrounding area but the main trail is about a 40 min drive from the site. It’s a great base and if it’s clear sky’s you can see the northern lights a 5 minute walk away from the site! Both Grahame and Sonia are helpful and couldn’t do enough to help you, we’ll definitely be back up 4 days was just not enough to explore everything!! Thank you!!’

Amazing place ! Loved our pod , which is small but the amount it can fit in is amazing ! So many wee storage spaces etc. Plus a picnic bench and fire pit outside , which we used both nights for our tea. Beside us was a hut with a large sitting space and fire pit in the centre , using Covid rules only one family allowed at a time , which made it even better 😃scenery is stunning and 2 highland cows to admire , and lots of stunning drives and walks nearby .
