The worst hotel in the world 👎👎👎👎👎 ❌❌❌❌❌ (Anyone who’s planning to go there … Think twice !!!!!!!!) The owner was really rude! We booked the hotel at Richmond house” for one night about three months before traveling and “Richmond house hotel” had already confirmed the reservation for us via an email We have never changed the date or canceled the reservation even once But on the day we arrived, the owner just told us that “Oh, we are sorry, We gave the room to another group already, they planned to stay 2 nights and now there’s no room left, you have to search for other hotel. It’s common that hotels can cancel your reservation , all you have to do is just go find some other place” That’s absolutely rude, she didn’t take any responsibility. No apology with truly feelings at all. It was in the evening and it hurt our feelings a lot It was a waste of time and also the owner’s conversation was really hurt our feelings We won’t take anything serious if the hotel canceled us before arriving so we could find some other place that we would love to stay. Not like this that there’s no any cancellation email or phone calls from the hotel and they just told us when we arrived and we had to stay and pay for an unknown hotel that was available at that time We traveled from overseas so we planned and booked, we didn’t just walk in! The worst experience ever!!!!!!

Good location, friendly staff, slightly tired room though. I was transferred to this hotel as my original hotel had to close for the week. I was slightly worried seeing some of the reviews but I had a small side flat to myself with en-suite bathroom and fridge. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but the room was slightly tired so don’t expect the ritz. The location was fabulous, right next to the Caledonian canal locks and a couple of minutes walk to the edge of loch ness. Although they don’t offer breakfast there is the lovely Cobbs Cafe just around the corner that opens at 9am and does a lovely breakfast. Overall I was happy with my stay

We recently stayed here, mid-week, as part of a longer Scotland stay. Its very difficult to adequately describe this hotel. I'm still not sure what I think about it. The hotel is very central, with free parking around the corner. And in that regard it is ideal. It is overhead a Chinese restaurant (run by the same family) and you do encounter some smells and noise. When I arrived, I was shown the room, before I paid. And the very nice lady explained to me that it was quiet, because it was on the 2nd floor. The stairs to the second floor is very steep and the steps are narrow, so you'd need to be mobile enough to use them. The room is very small. There is only room for a bedside locker on one side - so I had to get out of bed to check my phone or watch in the morning. There isn't a wardrobe, but there is a rail where you can hang clothing. The ensuite bathroom is dated and extremely small. If you were any way overweight you would struggle to use the toilet. The toilet is between the bath and a wall and the gap is only about two feet wide, perhaps a couple of inches more. Tea and coffee are provided. The room, for the most part, is spotlessly clean. However when I opened the top of the dressing table it looked as if nobody had cleaned inside it for a very long time. Not all the rooms have ensuite bathrooms, but there are separate bathrooms unique to each room. And the walls are thin. So if people need to leave their rooms to go to the bathroom at night you can hear the doors slamming, despite people's best efforts. We did not book or eat breakfast in the hotel, but we did go out to two of the lovely cafes which are only a couple of minutes walk away. And it was lovely to sit by the canal locks and watch the boats going through. We absolutely loved Fort Augustus. The town is small but has bags of character and is very pretty. Its a great base for the surrounding area - we drove to Fort William to see Neptune's Staircase in Fort William and on to Glen Nevis for a lovely walk. Both evenings we were there, we ate in The Moorings Restaurant - which is really nice. The main attraction of this "Hotel" is that it is so central and has its own parking. However I think calling it a hotel might be a bit grandiose. But it is situated in a really lovely location. Would we return? I'm not 100% sure. We absolutely loved the location and will certainly return to Fort Augustus and we might be persuaded to stay again, if we couldn't find somewhere as central. Its certainly not the place for a romantic romp away as even the smallest of whispers carried to all the other rooms!!

My partner and I booked one night here on our Scotland holiday. No mention of the hotel being attached to restaurant. There was no partition separating the restaurant from the rooms so you could hear everything going on downstairs. Cutlery being dropped, telephone ringing for takeaway orders, people talking etc etc. The plumbing was particularly terrible and incredibly loud. We could hear other guests using the shower and toilets at all hours. We were asked to write our breakfast choices down for the next morning which we did and duly handed in. There wasn't much point. We asked for cereal and got toast. The one poor woman serving was getting pulled left right and centre by guests asking for things they'd not received such as hot drinks or even their food. The room was clean enough and tidy with nice complimentary toiletries but nowhere near worth the £95 we paid for one night. If you're planning on visiting Fort Augustus I wouldn't bother. Not much to do. Not worth the stay. Maybe a visit passing through but not an overnight. Definitely avoid this place unless you're desperate (like we were as everywhere else booked up!)

Stayed here a couple of years ago it was great, this time awful, rooms clean but tiny, a TV as big as a laptop on the wall, a bathroom only can just fit inside, and a Chinese take away supplementing the hotel is attached, as a resident I could not sit in and watch the footy euro final. The breakfast was small and tasteless with cheap food passed off as something.

Host was lovely and very welcoming, the room was very clean but the bathroom in particular was in need of renovation but nothing that couldn't be put up with for a night. A basic room very clean and a comfy bed. We booked breakfast for 8am expecting it to be ready for then as we had a early start but after waiting 10 minutes for someone to arrive we left the host did see us leaving and kindly offered to make us the breakfast but we were ready to go. The food in the resteraunt was under whelming and very quick to arrive. This hotel is fine for 1 night away for somewhere to lay your head passing through.

Not value for money at all! Grotty rooms with tatty furniture. The bed was so worn it sank in the middle and the pillows had seen better days. £95 a night!! Breakfast not good either. After touring Scotland this must be the worst place we have stayed in

The hotel is located right in the town centre and is easy to reach from the bus station. The host was very welcoming and friendly. The stairs up to the room were quite steep and narrow and might be problematic for eldery people or when you carry a lot of luggage. The room was very cosy and clean and the breakfast exellent. Would stay again if back in Fort Augustus.

Fort Augustus is a beautiful small town right by the Lake. We were looking for a place to sleep overnight and we found Richmond House Hotel. It was located on top of a bar but we were there on a weeknight so it wasn't loud and we had a good night sleep. The room was nice and the common bathroom was clean and spacious. There was an electric kettle and teabags for us to use. Breakfast was good. The location was very easy to find as its on the main road. The price is a bit expensive though.

Really friendly bar staff and welcoming atmosphere. Visited twice during a long weekend stay in Fort Augustus for drinks. Bar man was very knowledgeable on gins and whiskies so we sat and tried a few on his recommendations! Really friendly people in there too. Loved it! :)
