the house is old and a little run down but i think that is all part of the experience. Jenny certainly is a fountain of knowledge, not only on the surroundings but the world in general. beds were comfy, walls were thin but luckily it was only my husband and myself in one room and my daughter, her husband and... We managed to get booked in last minute and it was such a treat! The log cabin for two is situated just on the loch and it is so quiet and peaceful. Just a 5 - 10 min walk in to Fort Augustus. The surroundings where just lovely!! Great to be surrounded by nature right on the loch. Osh was... More

I have stayed at Old Pier House three times in the last 15 years and it just keeps getting better. Set on the shore of Loch Ness, it has everything a great B&B needs. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, there are also cabins, picnic tables by the Loch, Highland Cattle grazing in the meadow, ponies in the stables, and... More

I stayed one night and paid 70 pounds for a room. I stayed in room #1 and it had a very comfortable queen/double bed, a decent size bathroom/toilet with a nice shower, and was on the side of the building that had a nice view of Loch Ness. Jenny, the host/owner, was super nice and made sure I had everything... More

We mostly loved our stay at the Old Pier House. Our daughter was fascinated by all the animals - three gentle ponies, a friendly yellow lab, a sweet old black kitty, highland cows, and lots of birds. We stayed in the family suite, breakfast was good, we had a nice walk to town and the location is just absolutely spectacular.... More

I stayed here with my husband and two daughters (9,12) for two nights as part of a family adventure around Scotland and the highlands. We were welcomed warmly by Jennie the property owner who clearly loves the environment she lives in and cares deeply about its conservation. She passionately encourages her guests to follow suit which we happily did! We... More

The location on the edge of the Loch is lovely. We stayed 1 night in the house with friends The room was dated and the shower was not very clean. The host, Jenny was very pleasant on arrival however at breakfast the next day she was quite rude. My friend had placed her side plate on her main plate as... More

The woman who runs the inn is very ridged. You're not allowed to chew gum but her muddy dog can shake his dirty hair all over you. And be careful when you walk on the lawn to keep a look out for dog droppings. We were also scolded on several occasions on using the dishes.

We were welcomed ever so kindly by the owners, their dog and horses, stayed 4 nights in an absolutely lovely log cabin 20 meters from the loch. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Old Pier House, a Highland farmhouse on the shores of Loch Ness, near the pretty village of Fort Augustus. We offer bed and breakfast in the main house open from April to October and self-catering facilities in our Loch Ness Log Cabins which are open all year round. This is a very private location on a peninsula in Loch Ness with stunning loch and mountain views yet only a ten minute walk or a two minute drive from the centre of the village. Located in the heart of the Highlands we are ideally situated as a central base for your Scottish touring holiday. We welcome walkers, cyclists, canoeists, horses and camping groups. There is plenty of parking and storage space. The 125 year old house with magnificent views has been extended to provide comfortable en-suite ground floor bedrooms, sitting rooms with log fires and a large bright breakfast room with superb views. Originally the Old Pier House was the end of the line for the West Highland Railway where big paddle steamers carried timber, cattle and people up the loch to Inverness. The old pier still remains and provides wonderful photo opportunities, a great picnic location and moorings for small boats. We have friendly Highland cattle and ponies that graze naturally on the heather hills, fields and surrounding woodlands. We speak fluent Gaelic, French, German, Italian and Spanish. ... more   less
