Faultless stay. Comfortable family room with en-suite. Shower was powerful and great after a day of walking. We enjoyed the freedom of the lounge and self-catering kitchen. Badged as a hostel but so much more than that label.

Can’t recommend this hostel enough. Had a lovely five days here reliving old memories of 50 years ago and making new ones. It’s a beautiful part of Scotland and the hostel is a wonderful resource for good value , comfortable and clean accommodation. The staff are all so friendly, helpful and kind, especially Jess, Ewan and Leanne. My single room was very basic but comfortable and had everything I needed. The bonus was the house martins nests outside my window. The communal areas are excellent, especially the kitchen which had free tea, coffee and milk provided. You are a bit away from the only shop but the hostel can sell you a ready meal for you to cook in the evening. You can also order croissants which are ready at 07:30 and warm. They are wonderful and definitely worth trying! The hostel has a brilliant leaflet of tracks and paths which is great for walkers. I walked daily and loved the scenery, wildlife and peace. There were quite a few visitors from France and Belgium and although my French wasn’t very good it was fun trying to communicate with them and the other folk. Sadly I didn’t catch the Applecross Inn open the two lunchtimes I tried, and the fish and chip van was also closed those lunchtimes. However one day there was another van, The Applecross Grill Society, and it sold very generously filled bacon rolls and tea or coffee. The banter was cheery too. The junction cafe seems to be permanently closed or so I was told. The “ Walled Garden” restaurant is well worth a visit and I did book two lunches there and was well pleased with my visits. Altogether I had a lovely stay and plan to book for a week next year. It’s worth noting that there is a minibus which goes from Inverness to Applecross return twice a week. It’s the only public transport so is a vital service for locals and tourists. Come prepared for all weather and midges though I was lucky and didn’t find either a problem.…

Stayed here one night on our trip on NC500. Staff friendly and informative Lovely location and house Room lovely and bathroom big, shower very good. Bed for me wasn't comfy too small, bed was noisy everytime we got up too the loo at night. About 2 miles from centre of applecross. No breakfast but you can order croissants for the morning, there is a kitchen you can get tea/coffee from and make a meal. Price was good

A lovely hostel in a great location & well priced. Helpful & friendly check in staff. Marred by a ridiculously snooty mamangement on site holding a meeting in dining area kitchen, during breakfast time. Spitting dummies out in disbelief at guests actually trying to use the facility. ( Hold your meetings in an appropriate location or, after 10:30am maybe, so you dont get upset with or confuse your guests! ) Pathetic/ out of order!.

Hi there. Glad you enjoyed the hostel, it is important to us that our guests enjoy their stay and we do take feedback seriously. We do sometimes have meetings in the dining room after check-out. You arrived at 10.25 to start making breakfast, only five minutes to check-out time. It was explained to you that you only had five minutes and that we would normally expect guests to have finished in the dining room by this time. I am sorry if you felt that was not the right location for a meeting but we don't have anywhere to hold our meetings and the hostel is closed from 10.30. I am not sure anyone was snooty or spitting dummies out in disbelief, but I am sorry you felt that way.

My fiancée and I had a wonderful stay here. The hotel offers a lot for your money, great self catering facilities, clean rooms and friendly staff. We felt very much at home there and we will definitely return. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

A great place to stay when cycling the North Coast 500. Had a family room which was super clean and bright. Very good facilities, brilliant kitchen and a gorgeous sitting room. Dryer room was useful. There's also a washing machine and a dryer. Highly recommended.

Wasn’t expecting much from a hostel but after the treacherous Applecross pass in a bit of mist everything was welcome. Receptionist went well out of her way to make me aware of all the facilities. Bed was comfy and warm, shower was surprisingly powerful and the walled garden nearby do a great burger.

Hartfield House enjoys a beautiful location in stunning countryside. The shared bathroom facilities and the kitchen are of a decent level for hostel style accommodation. What is not okay, however, is the bedclothes, the mattresses and the quilts. Most specifically Room 8 has a serious problem in this respect which robbed me of a decent night's sleep. Put simply, it stank, as if it hadn't been aired for ages. The following morning I wanted to make an official complaint in person, but no one was at reception during the main checkout time between 9 and 10am. Travellers should be wary of this problem. My group of friends stayed in the main building, not in the adjacent bunkhouse. We all had similar experiences and were happy we'd only booked the one night. I would have preferred to overnight in a tent, to be perfectly honest. Travellers, be wary.…

Hi there. Thank you for your feedback. We do take it seriously. I am sorry you and your friends had a bad experience. It is a shame you did not speak to someone at the time as we could have done something for you. We do have staff on in the evenings until 9pm, out of hours staff on the telephone, and staff on again from 8.30 but they are not always in reception. We haven't had any other feedback about bedding smelling and I would be very concerned if this was the case. We have replaced all of our duvets, mattresses and pillows at the beginning of the summer season 2022, and we do obviously wash all of our bedding every day. But there may have been something that caused something to have not smelled right and I am sorry about this. We will ensure that we double check everything at the start of this coming season and replace anything that needs replacing. Please understand the severity of leaving a review warning other potential guests of an issue that, as you can see from 99% of our other reviews, is not shared by your fellow guests. We are a business that is working really hard to provide a good service - which we do successfully - and we have a great housekeeping team who do a thorough clean every day. We do have high standards because we want people to enjoy their stay. If you had an issue, we could have investigated it and resolved whatever was wrong but not one of your friends said anything at all. Please do consider the damaging effect of going about things this way.

Great comfy stay - we are travelling with our dog and we were allocated a huge well decorated room with 3 aspects, over the coast, the coos, the Belach na Ba. Staff were welcoming and friendly to and made sure we knew where everything was, a real can do attitude. The centre was clean, well equipped and well organised for us to cater for ourselves and also to relax. There were great walks from the centre. It’s not far from the beach and local amenities.

Had a lovely stay in what is essentially, a large hotel-appearing hostel, with it's own spacious grounds, which has been altered, or designed, to provide a mix of largely hostel style rooms, along with some traditional private hotel style rooms, such as the lovely room we had. This means there is plenty free parking, and there is a large kitchen area for you to prepare food, or make a hot drink for free. The village 'proper' is a relatively easy pleasant walk away not too far, and in lovely woodland, and with deer aplenty around. Well recommended.
