The toilet seat was wooden and had splintered and warped , I can't begin to think how many germs were on that seat, I felt physically sick when I saw it.The walls were damp and mildew and the pipes were also black with mildew.
Hygiene should be top of any hotels list at any time but especially during the pandemic, there is no excuse for this, if the bathroom was cleaned properly and to a high standard then this should never have been passed, it obviously has been there for many months,
Highly recommended, affordable and stunning scenery to look out at ( see attached pics)
We have a 3 year old.daughter who enjoyed running around the vast grounds, and we enjoyed being able to have a drink in the sunshine outside the hotel, table service was offered to us as we were sitting outside also 👍
The rooms we have had were fantastic front facing rooms we paid a bit extra for the views and it was worth it, the rooms were spotless and I loved the shower and bathroom very modern decor.
We had a huge bed for us and a bed for our toddler, tea coffe facilities in the room as well.
Breakfast was delicious with a fantastic selection of continental and hot foods to choose from.
The staff couldn't be friendlier, and made.recommendations for things for.us to do , we took a day trip to loch Ness on the boat which our daughter loved, nothing we asked was to much and they always did it with a smile.
All in all a fantastic stay twice with great food, drinks and if your lucky to catch the sun a great grounds for kids to explore 👍
We will defo be booking again in the future 👍👍
The staff could not have been more friendly, and helpful. We can be a boisterous group, but they took that in their stride, and joined in. They went above and beyond taking in parcels for us and letting us fix our cars in the car park, when we had a couple that needed running repairs. A couple of us had a little problem on check in when we were given keys to the wrong rooms, but this was fixed really quickly and efficiently, and you can't ask for more than that. Everyone followed the Covid rules and ensured we did also, but in a nice way. The bar was great. Comfy seating and drinks brought over to us. A large space, but intimate and relaxing at the same time. No complaints about the rooms either.
Special mention has to go to Colin who seemed to be on duty 24/7! On the top of his game, whether in the restaurant, bar, or anywhere! Really made us feel welcome and looked after us well. If you are a car/bike, or similar group, looking for a base in Scotland for a holiday, this is it.
If you're after a home away from home with friendly staff, this is the right place.
This was our second stay, the first being pre-covid.
I booked a 4 night October stay which included breakfast and dinner each morning and evening. This plus my room amd £10 dog charge was £209. Good luck finding that in places half as good.
The room was upgraded to a double on request. A small double, clean, shower could wash the spots off a leopard, comfortable bed.
No view in this particular room but I hadn't requested one - unless you're an aficionado of roofs, if so - have at it.
The hotel is old, carpet is worn here and there in the corridors but it all adds to the charm. None of this impacts on the livability. In fact, it would be the perfect place to host a murder mystery or escape room.
There are stairs or a lift to choose from for the disabled or lazy (I'm the latter)
The food is very good. Breakfast is continental and cooked. Atm it's served from the buffet due to covid (continental is self serve). There's haggis so I was happy.
The dinner menu was broad enough for me to have 4 separate 3 course meals. I recommend the smoked salmon starter, mushroom risotto, and seafood linguini (there's a nightly pasta special).
The location is lovely, the hotel is set on its own grounds and the autumn colours right now are stunning. It's close to everything, with Dingwall being a few minutes drive away.
Most importantly, the people who work at the hotel are the ones who make or break a stay. Employees at the Ben Wyvis are friendly, and many have local knowledge which is helpful. Nothing is a bother, and they're always up for a chat with a lonely and/or weary traveller.
Luna loves it here because there are biscuits at the front desk and lots of places to walk nearby.
The hotel rooms have been done up a bit since we were last here but what really amazed was the standard of the cleanliness of the rooms. The room we were in was totally spotless, even when we moved stuff to plug in phone chargers etc (usually when you find the dust etc) it was even spotless below and behind the bed side tables. In these covid troubled times the feeling of being able to relax that a spotlessly clean room gives is priceless.
The food for the dinner bed and breakfast was great, the set menu for the pre-paid for dinner wasnt padded with the dull food forcing you to pay the uplift to the main menu, the food on the pre paid menu was a good selection of choices. The breakfast was really good as well, plenty of choice and all fresh despite us going down half an hour before breakfast finished.
The staff were all really friendly, very happy to help and seemed relaxed and happy to be at work. The service was proffesional, friendly and relaxed.
Overall it was nice to travel back to somewhere you remember fondly and have it live up to all the old memories. We left relaxed and happy.
Thank you for a nice relaxing night.
Parking was plentiful, with space for a 49-seater bus that was parked during our two-night stay.
The food was good, tasty, and plentiful. Staff were friendly, helpful, and always on hand.
We held our conference in a room that comfortably seated 60 people with a breakout space for refreshments and dialogue.
If you are looking for a hotel in a peaceful stunning location, for walks, a relaxing retreat, or a conference without the glamour or pretentiousness of some, then Ben Wyvis hotel is one to consider.
