Overlooking the unspoilt shores of the Dornoch Firth and nestled amongst the ruins of an old castle this 17th century house is both luxurious and intimate. With everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel, but with the warmth and personality of a country house party, this really is a special place to come and experience the rugged beauty of the highlands.Take a walk along the beach, play a round of golf, visit our distillery and then head back to the house to enjoy award winning food sourced from our own kitchen garden, a surrounding farm or the sea; a quick 200 yard dash down a tree lined path.Glenmorangie House holds the prestigious Michelin Hotel Guide single ‘Red House’ symbol – one of only nine in Scotland. It has also been awarded two Red Rosettes for its food from the AA hotel inspection service and three Red Stars and a red rocking chair for its exceptional accommodation and service.

The Glenmorangie House is amazing. The decor and rooms are fantastic and absolutely beautiful. There is no real check-in/reception desk, they meet you when you arrive and show you around. Everything is very personal. They want you to feel like you're staying at a friend's house. A friend with incredible decorating taste, gourmet dining, and a beautiful setting. The grounds are lovely and just a short walk from the sea. The food was delicious, though the dining style may not be to everyone's liking. You dine communally at a set time with a set meal, though they are accommodating to allergies and vegetarians. My husband was not a fan of the concept as he dislikes forced small talk and generally does not set out to make friends while on vacation. I loved the hotel and I'm glad to have had the opportunity to stay there, but we would not return for that reason alone. Maybe it's more for extroverts than introverts. Unbelievably beautiful rooms and location.

Hotel's Favourite
I found Glenmorangie by chance when looking for a wedding venue in April 21. We went to see it in May’21 and a quick visit in March 22 and instantly loved it and it was booked for our wedding in May’22. We had exclusive use for 3 nights. It’s not a hotel, it’s a home from home. They are going through a refurbishment and the design is quirky but very well done and all the rooms have a theme based on the whiskey making process. There is not a TV in sight, communal dining and the bedrooms don’t have keys (you can if you ask) but it never bothered me as always forget my room key when staying in a hotel so loved this! The location is quiet but beautiful, with lovely gardens and a 5 minute walk to a private beach. You can go and watch the sunset up from the beach. The food is excellent and all local produce. David, Amy, Ally, Victoria, Ronnie and Head Chef John and his team are all so warm and friendly and just can’t do enough. The venue was a huge hit with my wedding guests who were truly enchanted by Glenmorangie and just couldn’t say enough good things about it. There was a standing ovation for Chef and his team on the last night and the staff joined in the Kayleigh during the reception with cheers as they did. It is a hidden gem and I think the only regret I have is it took me this long to find it and we didn’t stay longer! Have already booked a visit for our 1st wedding anniversary! Would highly recommend if you want a friendly place, with beautiful surroundings, great food and super staff.

They want the hotel to have a house party vibe rather than a formal hotel style. However, it would have been useful to have a way of making our presence known when we arrived rather than having to go in search of a member of staff. Once found the staff member was friendly, informative and charming, happy to give us a tour of the building, explaining the reasons behind the quirky decor. Rooms are decorated with the brand in mind, a torch burnt dresser represented the whisky barrels but touch it and the charcoal comes off on your hand. (Why no matt varnish to make it clean and durable?) . Some elements of the decor are fabulous but occasionally let down by inconsequential imagery. Our bedroom was bright and highly patterned, lots of floral wallpaper and soft furnishings. Very comfortable beds, good straightforward bathroom with Molton Brown toiletries. There was a kettle and tea bags in the room but no easy place to plug in the kettle and coffee had to be made in a cupboard in the corridor where there was a Nespresso machine with a great selection of coffee pods along with biscuit/oat bars. Dinner was preceded by all dinner guests gathering in the sitting room for canapés and drinks. ( in fact it was one canapé of shreds of beef cheek on a spoon). We were called through to the dining room ( great table and lighting, tacky art) for a four course tasting menu. No choice unless there were food allergies. the starter was parsnip and apple risotto, then salmon and quinoa followed by pork belly which we were told had been cooked for 5 days, a sticky piece of pork loin and a potato fondant. Dessert was the best course - mango brûlée and apple and basil sorbet ( yes, 2 of the 4 course featured apple). The meal was average, not very hot and under seasoned. Breakfast was served in another dining hall, coffee served in a large pouring thermos, juices incorrectly labelled which led to us pouring pineapple juice thinking it was apple. The Scottish breakfast was not great, my husband thought the sausage poor and the blend of haggis and black pudding was so yucky he couldn’t eat it. On our way out of the dining room we saw a table with cheeses and charcuterie but nobody had told us it was there and it wasn’t obvious. Overall there was a sense of style over substance.

Hotel was opulent in decor. The 5 course a la carte evening meal was stunning, as was breakfast. Rooms were decorated to extremely high standard. Staff (David & Amy) were extremely friendly & knowledgeable in the history of glenmorangie whiskies. We were spoiled both nights we stayed with excellent company of other guests around an open fire on comfy sofas. Wonderful selection of Glenmorangie whiskies available, topped off with a complimentary tour of the distillery. Its a must if you like your whisky.

We stayed here twice on our holiday and on both occasions the accommodation was fantastic, the ambiance was chilled, relaxed and welcoming. From Findlay and Amy on FOH greeting you on arrival, the rooms were excellent - themed but with lots of quirky touches which drew your attention and made you smile (think Giraffes)! The food - wow! Our breakfast was great, with highlight being the omelette, so good! Dinner was on a different level and having the chef, Douglas, introduce himself and the dessert was great touch. This is a young guy with skills and he is a great asset for the company! I would thoroughly recommend staying here (it even has pet-friendly cottages to stay in when travelling with your furry friends)!

Wonderful hotel with fantastic staff. Like staying with friends. Dining is excellent and Duncan will amaze you with his piping skills and knowledge of Burns. Beautiful grounds. If you like tranquil, peaceful locations this is it. The walk down to Cadboll beach through the avenue of trees is particularly beautiful. Might be a little remote for some but as good a country house experience I think you can have in Scotland.

What an authentic Scottish Highlands experience! The Glenmorangie House is a unique slice of heaven set far away from the big towns. We were here to golf at Royal Dornoch. The location seems remote but that is what was so special about it. Dinner each night is served with the rest of the guests. You get a true old fashioned houseparty feel. At dinner we were piped in with bagpipes and had a formal address of the haggis. The Gleorangie whiskey flows and the entire staff is so knowledgeable. The rooms are each uniquely decorated. Everything was so clean and comfortable. And did I mention the food? Each night was a four course authentic Scottish meal, beautifully presented and plated. Amy was a delightful hostess throughout our stay. This was a once in a lifetime experience. There are no televisions in the rooms so it is a perfect place to disconnect and explore the beauty of the surrounding area. I highly recommend!
