So, you're in the West of Scotland. You say that you want the "real thing." As you have it, you find yourself in Ballantrae... well the place to go is the King's Arms Hotel. This traveler will simply say, very good, simple food and remarkably good prices and service which is what you expect and rarely have delivered. You will... More

This was billed as the last food stop before the Irish Ferries at Cairnryan. In the past Wembley have driven on as the Kings Arms Hotel has clearly seen better days. With time to spare, and after driving over from Edinburgh we decided to stop for lunch and to freshen up. Don't judge a book by its cover. We had... More

We ate 3 times in The Kings Arms, during our stay in Ballentrae (1x lunch & 2 x dinners) and were very pleased with the lovely food in there. To top it all, they were also welcoming to our dog, which we really appreciated. Sadly, the pub is currently up for sale, due to the owner's ill health, but if... More

Dropped in here again for lunch. Wife had a lovely ribeye steak which more than enough made up for the one in the Golf Inn the other week! Haddock for me. All fresh and tasty. Half pint ale for me and the usual wine for the boss. Will certainly be back.

we called in on our first night in Ballantrae, the food was very basic but we were very hungry, called in the second night and the pork was touch and served with exactly the same veg as the night before... i.e. peas and carrots. We didnt make it a third time.

We stopped in on our way to the Cairnryan ferry. We'd only intended to have a few soft drinks and some crisps, but decided to have an early meal. The food was fairly standard "pub grub", with extremely generous portions and reasonable pricing. The barman (owner?) who served us was very welcoming and friendly. We would be happy to return.

We stopped here on. Way back from portpatrick for some food. The food was great and the service was brilliant. Myself and my stepdad both do coastguard and when our pager went the friendly staff offered to take the rest of our party to girvan several times. When I got back they even asked if I wanted a fresh pudding... More

Stopped by here for lunch only as sign advertised good food, accommodation etc and there did not seem any where else, but would not rave about the quality of what is on offer. They may not have much competition but could improve greatly, the leek and potato soup used mainly the green stalk of the leeks which are the cheapest... More

We stopped a few doors down in the village, and thought we would have some pub grub and a few pints on the first night. Food was good. Worth the money and tasty. Beer, unfortunately, was not. Tried both Carling and Tenants and both were stale, flat and for want of a better word .... 'pish'. Will not have another... More
