Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

this campsite is located a mile or so outside the town. the facilities include a swimming pool and a spotlessly clean facilities block. The site does not have a shop of any description, The the local bus service, route 60 stops at the entrance to the site and runs about every hour or so. The pitches are a good size and telephone and tv reception is very good. The town itself is a little neglected but does boast an excellent restaurant called greenside (booking in advance essential}. There are several taxi services in the area that are reliable and very useful as the walk back from town is very steep. The owners are very welcoming and manage to maintain the site to a high standard without the usual constant noise of lawnmowers etc which I have experienced at many other sites.

Just returned from another visit to the site and as usual the standards are high the work the family do on site is second to none. Well maintained pitches and surrounds. I read.a comment about travellers on the site I can asure you that on a previous visit we were on a pitch next to a family of travellers and I can assure you they were very pleasant polite and no the children did not run amock we were surprised to hear that there was children in the caravan I spoke to the parents and they were hard working I was invited into their caravan it put me to shame it was spotless. The family adhered to all the site rules and the children went to a local school which they loved while they were in site. I have been on sites where children (not.travlellers) are left to make noise and cause trouble but the Ranch is certainly not one of those.

We stayed here for 2 nights at Easter. Staff were welcoming and friendly. The pitches are all large and spacious. We were happy we could pick our own pitch. We picked one right at the back in a quiet spot. There were quite a lot of unattended kids not always playing nicely. The pool was warm and clean, the lady working there was working hard to keep the changing rooms clean and check it wasn’t overcrowded. Some people were able to pre book their swim times and some weren’t so there was some confusion. It did get full quickly but we went back after an hour and we got in. The staff were giving out Easter eggs and chocs to the kids which was a lovely touch. Toilets were clean and facilities were great. The country music in the toilets was enjoyable! Felt like I was on a ranch in America! The campsite is in a handy location for attractions including Culzean Castle & Electric Brae. Excellent site.

I have been going to this site seasonal for 8 years. Love the place a proper family run business and great site for families. Mark, Thomas and family are great, friendly and always willing to help. I wouldn’t want to spend my time relaxing anywhere else. Facilities are always clean and tidy and the park is always clean and tidy. The McCauley family always work hard throughout the season and also out of season to ensure the maintenance and park are ready for the season ahead! Excellent event for Easter held that everyone on site gets involved in along with an excellent party for the jubilee last year! Beautiful location within Ayrshire located great for local amenities and also tourist attractions within driving distance. Highly recommend this site.

We’ve visited this site in previous years but it’s gone downhill. Possibly new owners but not sure. Lots of travellers congregating outside the toilet block. Quite intimidating to walk through them to use the facilities. They seem to be working on the site bringing in and taking away old vans and dumping them around the park. Light bulbs needing replaced all over the site to the extent there was only one outdoor light actually working……a bit of a health and safety hazard making it difficult to walk the dog without tripping over pot holes in the dark etc. There was someone joyriding through the site On the upside it’s handy for the beach, there are a couple of very small (smaller than last year) play parks and it’s still a nice picturesque site with nice views. We won’t be returning next year though.

So sorry you experienced this, unfortunately it is very hard to monitor who books online. We are actively trying hard this season to watch who books and so far we have not had any problems! We do hope you will give us a second chance and your next stay will be more enjoyable.

What a fantastic site this is! From the moment you arrived we were greeted by a friendly helpful face and told us exactly where to pitch our tent.

The site is lovely and well kept with spotless showers and toilet areas.

The site itself is very quiet during the day and at night most of the children meet at the games field either to play football or a good old game of rounders.

We stayed in over 20 parks during the months of Jun and July in England, Scotland and Wales and the best were the ranch and witches Craig both in Scotland. At the ranch the folks were the friendliest people ever, ensured we had everything we needed. And the cost were half that of surrounding parks. The facilities were great. loved the horse.

We have had a static caravan here for 14 years and absolutely love it. The McAuley family are lovely, very welcoming, friendly and nothing is a bother to them. Our children have grown up on this site and we now take our grandson too. The park is lovingly cared for and family orientated. The McAuleys work hard to maintain a high standard. Swimming pool has been refurbished and is beautiful. The family do an Easter egg hunt every year for the entire site, with the Easter bunnies hiding the eggs and Gillian and Vi put on a beautiful spread. Highly recommend this little piece of tranquility for anyone looking for a break. Thanks to the McAuley family for all their hard work.

Decent enough site. Toilets & showers were clean with plenty hot water. Roads around the site could do with upgrading but pitches themselves were fine. As was the grass area. Regarding the comment about it being a travellers site. While we were there, there was a small group of travellers as well as tourists. They were all pleasant and caused no issues that we could see.

The park used to be a fantastic place before the boy mark and his bird took over. Now the costs are one and a half percent over the cost of living. He shuts the pool but wants you to pay to use it.he has the place in darkness.its like there is a blitz no lights treacherous speed bumps and uneven walking in the darkness is shocking. The father needs to take back the park.and run it like a happy family park the way it used to be.the boy has no manners whatsoever he is arrogant rude and doesnt care.his attitude stinks mybe people now will be honest and see what is really happening. We were shocked at the state of the site its like a mud bath building site.4 or 5 years ago when our family were there it was so friendly and family orientation. But now the patrons on the site are scared to air the truth. As they will be told you know what to do leave and take your caravan with you.some attitude from a boy who doesnt care.we wont ever be back and my family itheir.alot more people should stand up for yourselves and speak to the real owners. We are very sorry to have left this review but Mark has went to far this time. The caravan club and South Ayrshire Council should look into this.and the trust.

Response from mark mc auley, Owner at The Ranch Holiday Park

So sorry you have had a bad experience at The Ranch. Unfortunately you have some information wrong. Mark and his wife are not the owners and it is very much partnership between Thomas, Vi (Marks parents) and Mark - as it always has been. We always try our very best to help whoever comes to the ranch however we can. Thankfully we have never received a review in person or online like this before, which is probably why this one hurts so much and we will strive to never receive one like it again. I would also like to mention, Mark was not on site during your visit in Oct 2022. There is always maintenance work done during the winter months to keep the park at the high standard we have set ourselves. However It is always tidied for the season beginning as weather allows. Every year we have visit scotland in to review us and are proud to say they always award us 4star! We do hope you will return and give us (especially Mark and his bird! 😆) a second chance!
