Detailed Reviews
I stayed just one night and on a whim. This inn is quite superb. The room was clean (spotless in fact) comfortable and with great views. The bar was welcoming with a cracking fire and … Jess the Labradoodle patrolling the gaff. I had a delicious dinner of salmon, steak pie and sticky toffee pudding. All faultlessly served by Sarah and with Jess looking on with her experienced eye, there was little room for error!
A dram in the bar was the perfect night cap as the next day I was up early and walked in the nearby hills and forest. The cooked breakfast upon my return was just the ticket. I had local bacon and sausage that TASTED of bacon and sausage with good coffee all served by Brian, the very affable and hospitable host. This is a gem of a place and I hope I will return soon. Brian, just one request….bigger, more substantial paper napkins please, the thicker faux linen ones? Thank you for being an independent star.

I stayed at the Cross Keys as a base to travel to Stirling 10k run from. The room was cosy with nice decor and had everything you need. Service was good and the room was good value for money. The shower was powerful and towels absorbent. I slept like a log although next rooms bathroom fan was quite noisy. There is a pub underneath but any nouse didn’t go on till late.
The only thing that detracted from my stay was breakfast. I was told breakfast was maybe off due to boss/breakfast cook having a delayed flight then later on told breakfast was on. However when I went down for breakfast, cooked breakfast was off then on after I’d finished my cereal and banana. This was stressful and not ideal considering I had the run the next morning and there were no shops open in Kippen in the evening. Not sure what the issue really was, a bit odd!

We stayed overnight on our way up to the Isle of Mull. Staff were very accommodating for us all, including the dog who was a bit over excited for his first stay anywhere. Rooms were lively and comfortable. Food both evening and breakfast were fantastic. Highly recommended.

We stayed 3 nights with our dog, visiting local area. Room was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. Welcome was great by Brian, landlord, all staff were friendly, helpful and polite and made a fuss of kohl our GSD. We had 2 evening meals there and both were great, even arranged a surprise cake for our anniversary. Breakfasts were delicious too, would definitely return and recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area.

My wife and I decided to eat out on my birthday this year and several suggestions were tossed around, but when The Cross Keys was mentioned my mind was made up. Having been once before, I had nothing but positive memories. This visit was no disappointment either.
My wife started with the whipped goat's cheese and I had the pigeon breast with squash risotto.
Two steaks to follow and lemon and lime creme brulee and a chocolate tart to finish.
Is it perfect? No. Is it trying really hard to offer fresh food made with great care, subtlety and imagination at a price mortals can afford?
Absolutely.
Forget the polished, stiff and sterile environments of fine dining and go here. Excellent cookery, friendly service, memorable flavours and great value for money. We have to go there more often.

After a Sunday morning walk, the Cross Keys is ideal for a family roast. A lovely atmosphere, professional, friendly and efficient service, great food and an easy 5*. We arrived later on Sunday, so there was space, but I'd recommend booking in advance for lunch as I am sure it gets busy. Superb, we loved it!

Friday lunch which exceeded on so many levels:
Proper log fire, very well staffed (friendly welcome), super menu - we had Morrocan lamb casserole & steak pie both of which were 5*. That said, the highlight was Jessie the dog. Beautiful, cuddly and so attentive.
We don't stay that far away and will definitely be back to try their evening options.
Please go - you won't be disappointed.

This was the third meal we have had at the Cross Keys in the last few weeks. Again, the food and service were great. Steak pie is always a favourite but newly added guinea fowl with pearl barley was delicious. Lovely evening.
