Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The kindest most caring/hospitable B&B we've stayed at! If we're coming back to Bowmore I do hope we can stay again. Excellent breakfast, customized for each of our wishes. Beautiful room with exciting view.

My husband and I had a brilliant 4 nights stay at the Allandale B&B. From booking, to our time at the B&B, Fiona could not be a better host. The room was lovely - it was modern, extremely clean and such a special view over the sea. I have dietary intolerances and Fiona was amazing at catering for this and her breakfasts were delicious! The location was great just outside Bowmore - we were able to walk into town for different restaurants in the evening. Fiona and her husband Allan were so hospitable and a fantastic source of knowledge on things to do on Islay and the history of the island. All in all we could not be happier with our stay and thoroughly enjoyed everything that the Allandale B&B had to offer. Totally recommend it to anyone that is looking to stay on Islay!

A big thank you to Fiona and Allan for helping make our stay on Islay a great one. The B&B is just outside of Bowmore, in an incredibly peaceful setting with amazing views. The hospitality was superb and we couldn't have asked for any more.

Fiona and Allan could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble... with Allan doubling as an impromtu tour guide and history commentary given half the chance! Allandale has a fantastic, peaceful position right on the shores of Loch Indaal, where the tides (and Islay's ever-changing weather) mean there's a different view every time you look out the bedroom window (or the breakfast room, or the lounge)... it's so calming, having all of nature right there, all the time. The location is an easy 10-15 minute stroll from town. Close enough to wander in for dinner, and stagger home again. (Remember to take your phone light if it's after dark, and look out for Islay's mad drivers!) The rooms were great, the breakfasts were delicious... I'd give Allandale more than the five stars if I could... but really it was Allan and Fiona who made our holiday. It was our first time on the island, so their guidance and help was so, so valuable and gave us the confidence to explore the wonderful island.

I stayed here for about a week in July 2019 while on a distillery tour. From my first moment in Scotland, I noticed how friendly people were, but Fiona and Allan were magnificent. The room was immaculate and comfortable, and everywhere you look in the guest house there is some delightful decoration or item to make you smile. Upon meeting Allan, my friend and i mentioned we intended to walk into Bowmore for supper - and were immediately provided a ride, short tour of the town, and recommendations on what places have the best food. Follow Allan's food recommendations. You'll be very pleased. The place itself is about a fifteen minute walk from the town of Bowmore, which is great for an after-supper walk to settle a lovely meal (and sober up a bit, in my case). Speaking of food, Fiona is a magnificent cook. Definitely see about getting a full Scottish breakfast, but even the simpler toast and eggs we had were probably the best possible toast and eggs that I've ever had. For the entire duration of the trip we were very well taken care of. I definitely intend to try to return when next i visit Islay.

Location was perfect with harbour views. Couldn't expect more from our hosts as their attention to detail was simply magnificent. Breakfasts were the best we had on our 6 week holiday. Parking outside the B & B was not a problem

I wish I could give it 10 stars! My husband and I came here on our honeymoon, and Fiona could not have been more hospitable. In the lead-up to the trip, she offered to make restaurant and distillery tour reservations for us (pls do so—things book up on Islay!). When we arrived, she upgraded us to another available room—at no charge—and in our charming room we found champagne and a handwritten card congratulating us on our honeymoon! Fiona is warm, personable, and a consummate professional—we later learned she was in the hospitality business—and it is evidenced at every turn. She was full of helpful suggestions, and even gave us a lift into Bowmore proper (15min Wall) so we could make it to Bowmore’s distillery in time. Fiona’s full Scottish breakfast was five-star, with a picturesque view of the sheep in the farm behind. What a warm welcome. We will definitely return and recommend heartily to anyone visiting Islay!

If you are fortunate enough to have lovely relatives on Islay with a beautiful waterside home overlooking Loch Indall you won't need to stay at Allendale. You might still want to through just to have the pleasure of meeting Fiona and Allen and hearing their hilarious stories and getting the best info on the island. If you don't have that relative you can, like us, experience that feeling of having family in a stunning spot. It is really hard to imagine what else Fiona and Allen could do to make your stay more special. The house is really comfortable and the room overlooks not just the Loch but has a distant view of the wonderful distillery at Bruichladdich. You are overlooked through. By the grazing sheep in the field that surrounds their garden and nothing else. The sheep provide a lovely pastoral feel. Fiona and Allen have through of everything that you might need in your room and this attention to detail is part of their hospitality which is so generous and delightful. The cooked Scottish breakfast that Fiona cooks is perfection. Having heard their stories about the island we felt as though we belonged, and it brought the island to life. Thanks to both of them for making us feel like we were part of the family!
