Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent B&B. Clean, cozy, comfortable, close to the Port Ellen ferry terminal and the restaurants in Port Ellen. Owner Joy is an amazing women with many stories to tell. She was extremely helpfull in helping us navigate Islay, the busses, taxis etc. Highly recommended B&B. If I get the chance to visit Islay again and need a place to stay I will first contact Joy.

Great place to stay in Port Ellen. Joy is an amazing host who cooks your breakfast every morning. My single room was spacious with a private bathroom across the hall. The big bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was modern with a walk-in shower. From my window i had a stunning view of the bay. I stayed for 8 nights and had a great time. Nothing to complain.

We stayed at Askernish for three nights in early November and can’t wait to go back. Joy lives up to her name and was just delightful to chat with over breakfast or in passing in the afternoon and evening. She provided some helpful tips for getting around the small island with its small roads and insights to some of the distilleries and eateries, and breakfast was never disappointing! The beds in our room were the most comfortable of the 4 places we stayed during our trip across the UK, the radiators worked well, the bathroom was spacious with large tub, and the views out the windows looking out over the water were a wonderful way to start the day. The B&B is easy to get to from the airport or ferry, and just a few minutes’ walk to several eateries and the local co-op grocery store. I really can’t say enough good things about our stay, and this’ll be the first place I look the next time we venture to Islay! NOT related to Joy or the Askernish B&B, do be aware that flights in and out of the island to Glasgow are not frequent; just 2 a day on weekdays, and only one on Sundays; if there’s a delay or cancellation, you might be stuck on Islay until the next day. Keep this in mind when making travel plans, especially for connecting flights.

Really loved my stay here. Joy was so hospitable, friendly and very helpful with any requests / navigating around the beautiful island of Islay. Joys B&B was so lovely, and homely and she wasvery attentive. Thanks Joy! The island is such a warm and friendly place, and had gorgeous weather too. Very long awaited break and so happy to have made it. I will be back🌝 Regards Elizabeth

We booked this B&B at the recommendation of a friend. It was indeed really nice. Joy, the owner, is extremely friendly and gave us valuable information about places to go and how to move around in the island. The rooms were extremely comfortable, the bathrooms spacious and well decorated, everything sparking clean, and the breakfast was outstanding. Will definitely stay there again if we're ever back in Islay.

A visit to Islay is good for the soul and can wash away the stresses of the daily grind with work and a stay with Joy was a just the tonic we needed, what a lovely lady, warm and friendly and her name is perfect as she is a joy to spend time with! The house is full of period features and the rooms have been tastefully refurbished with quality fittings and comfy beds and linen, the bathrooms are a real treat if only we could have a bathroom as big at home! Lots of choice at breakfast, all freshly cooked to order you can tell Joy has been hosting for many years, this was the perfect start to our stay on Islay and we cannot wait to return!

Slept extremely well in a comfortable clean and tidy room. En-suite was lovely. Breakfast was a proper 'full' with a large selection of 'other' types of breakfast available. Coffee was delicious real coffee. Very safe B&B with the application of the Covid19 restrictions and the Host went out of her way to stagger breakfast to accommodate her guests. Small touches made a difference; foam ear plugs for those who have to suffer their partners snoring! Excellent location in the village.

We were a group of 6 motorbikers visiting the Island. Joy, our land lady, even moved her van out of the drive so we could get all 6 bikes off the road. Booking was very easily done via emails even though we had a couple of call off's Joy dealt with these very well. Food good and as much tea toast etc as you could eat, rooms clean and more than adequate. Location perfect for the return ferry, although in our case it was cancelled due to the weather. If I go back to Islay this is where I'll stay.
