Detailed Reviews
We weren’t sure what to expect with Jannel but we were very pleasantly surprised. We were in Room 4 which felt like your own little home. With a small lounge area, super comfy king size bed and modern bathroom with great shower and quality towels. You even have a fridge which is handy for chilling your wine/beers. You have loads of room and Paul and Maureen have thought of everything that you would need and they only a doorbell away if you need anything else. You feel completely separate from the main house with your own guest access door.
Paul was really helpful with information on where to go and what to see. Breakfast was delicious also. A 15min walk will take you into the centre of Stornoway. The sign on the outside says 4 star accommodation for us it was 5 Star!

Lovely b&b, very clean and quiet, off road parking and convenient for the town of Stornaway. The hosts went above and beyond in making sure their customers are comfortable. My extraordinarily late arrival was dealt with very matter-of-factory and there was an offer f laundry… much appreciated. No hesitation in recommending a visit.

We stayed at Jannel Bed & Breakfast for three nights at the beginning of September. I emailed Maureen a couple of times before we stayed and she was very prompt and helpful then Paul checked us in and served us breakfast each morning and he was very welcoming and friendly. We staying in room 4 the suite which had a cosy lounge area and private hallway as well as a good size bedroom and bathroom. It was great having the extra space for luggage, shoes and jackets and a small fridge with fresh milk. Breakfast was very good and always served with a smile from Paul. Jannel is a short walk from Stornoway and a good base to explore Lewis from.

This is the best B&B that I have ever stayed in and better than many 4 star hotels. Our room was very comfortable and large with a super sitting area and had everything you could possibly need including a fridge. Bathroom and shower were excellent too.
There was an excellent choice at breakfast time,it was freshly cooked and served quickly. I would have no hesitation in recommending Jannel to anyone wanting to stay in Stornoway.

A beautiful B&B with a large and very clean room. Paul was a wonderful host who was always on hand to provide useful tips and advice for the day’s activities. The breakfast was beautiful with a wonderful fruit salad in addition to a tasty fry! The house was in a residential area but only a 15 min walk to the town center with many restaurants and pubs- a great location to explore the island from! We were sad to leave and would definitely recommend!

Stayed here for 3 nights in room 4, spacious and clean. Hosts welcoming and helpful and the breakfast is the best. Good location for driving round the island and a 15-20 min walk into town for restaurants (although plenty of parking there too). Would definitely recommend staying here.

A host who offers five stars hospitality. I was warmly welcomed by Paul who explained the Stornoway location and places of interest. My room was very comfortable and my shower was powerful and hot. An excellent breakfast was provided with ample choice of cereals, fruit juices and summer fruit starter. Guests had the use of the toaster and selection of bread. The house is very convenient to the town and ferry and there is adequate car parkin space for the number of guests.

We had an excellent stay at Jannel and would definitely stay again.
Paul has a wealth of knowledge and was great in recommending places to visit and was so friendly and helpful.
Our room had its own sitting room, was very spacious and well appointed. Everything had been thought of and we even had a small fridge. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well.
Breakfasts were great. The fruit salad was amazing, such a lovely variety of fruits! Cooked breakfasts were also excellent.
The B&B was about a 15 minutes easy walk from the town centre where there are some great restaurants but be sure to book in advance.

We spent two nights here and after other accommodation in the Outer Hebrides it was very, very disappointing. Our room was cold on our first morning but when we turned up the radiator in our room it didn't work. When we raised this with the owner he informed us that the heating was turned off because it was warm enough. The cooked breakfast on offer consisted of three items. When one of us asked for poached eggs on toast we were informed we must get your own toast for it from the toaster on a table. This was a really miserable experience and we could not recommend this establishment to anyone.

Response from Mo Ramsay, Owner at Jannel Bed and Breakfast
Responded 4 Jul 2024
Heating: The property heating is controlled by 2 thermostats, one for the ground floor and one for the first floor. They automatically engage when the temperature drops. Guests can control the level of heat on the radiators when the heating is engaged and the bathroom heating is unique to each room. Cooked breakfast: The traditional cooked breakfast consists of 6 items (not the suggested 3) Sausage, Bacon, Black Pudding, Eggs, Tomatoes, Mushrooms and optional beans or any combination of the above. We also serve Vegan and Vegetarian breakfast options. Toast: After over 15 years in the B&B industry, we have found that the best option is to allow guests to make their own toast. This allows guests to make their toast to their liking and to have as much, or as little as they would like. We have significantly reduced our food wastage by doing so, and by cooking breakfasts fresh to order, without the need to pre-order. The toast is not at a separate table, but rather on the breakfast bar. The dining room is also set up in such a way that those wishing to partake in continental breakfast only, have everything at their disposal including tea, coffee, cereals, yogurts, milk, juices, fruit, cheeses, toast and preserves. “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.” ― John Lydgate.

What can I say - if you want home from home comfort during your stay in Stornoway then this is where you need to be. We arrived at the B&B and were surprised to find what appeared to be a suburban house, we missed the sign at first and had to turn back. The owner met us at the door and told us everything we needed to know about our stay before inviting us to go up to our room on the first floor.
Our room was large - not just a bedroom but a seated lounge area where we could sit an enjoy TV or just relax as needed. Spotlessly clean, spacious and comfortable, and a box of fudge on the bed to welcome us. We have traveled all over the world and find that no matter how luxurious the hotel etc., you rarely relax as you would at home but this room, for comfort, relaxation, and homeliness was by far the best we have ever stayed in. The B&B was quiet (even though it was full), parking was ample for the number of guests and the breakfasts home made and delicious. Our host was welcoming, friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in what we were doing each day.
