The Heb Hostel has been created from a traditional townhouse in the centre of Stornoway. As such, it is extremely well located and has been very well laid out to provide excellent facilities and comfortable rooms. Covid restrictions reduced Christine’s ability to open the full facility but she has done a great job in working out how to host travellers and keep to the rules. There is a shed round the back to keep bikes and a beautiful garden complete with Shepherd’s hut, a barbecue cabin and tree house all of which have been beautifully made and fitted into the garden so nicely. Christine who runs the hostel and her Dad, Tosh, are both hard working and lovely people who are very keen to make sure their guests are well looked after.
A lovely stay at the hostel. Room was big enough for the 5 of us and beds were comfy with nice duvets. Christine wasn't around and we were looked after by her mum, who was very helpful sorting out the shed for our bikes. Breakfast was supplied which set us up for our early ferry.
We stayed for three nights in the shepherds hut in the garden at the rear of the main hostel. Great value for money; very private, very cosy and completely self-contained. An excellent choice during the Covid era. A different experience to staying in a standard hostel. You have everything you need including private shower and toilet. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Lewis and Harris. Christine was really helpful in placing the booking during the uncertain times due to the pandemic.
Lovely stay. Christine was so friendly and accommodating with our tandem bike and check-in. Breakfast was provided in our room (we weren’t able to use the kitchen due to covid restrictions) which was very unexpected and much appreciated. The beds were super comfy and clean. All in all, a great stay and would thoroughly recommend.
Pro: - clean room - friendly staff - good price for a private room Con: - we were in the second house, which was still in the prgress of renovation, so we didn't get so use the beautifull garden everybody talks about ;-) But it was still a very nice stay
I stayed 2 nights in this nice hostel, very clean and comfortable. The owners are lovely and very welcoming. Ideally located close to the harbor, I totally recommend. Excellent value for money, with a bonus including breakfast.
Had a few good days of rest at this hostel.Good location (close to main bus station and shops, main attractions)very nice staff and owners. The owners are locals an can provide excellent information on what to visit, where to go.The place is very clean, cozy and has a good and calm vibe. Thank you.
i loved this hostel. the location was perfect for us to take the ferry the next morning. the rooms were clean and the staff was nice and helpfull. we had the bedroom with 4 beds. it was a nice room but we did not have any keys.. but i guess that's the norm for that area i guess...
The hostel has an incredible homely feeling to it. Lovely lounge room, kitchen with all the essentials + also oil, spices, and free food if things need finishing. Cosy rooms with plenty of space and spotless clean. Staff always very helpful! Highly recommended!
Stayed here while on holiday in Stornoway. We'd had contact off the owner Christine when we'd booked to confirm she'd received our booking and to contact her if there were any issues. Good to know we had a point of contact. We were welcomed by a volunteer member of staff when we arrived, who had just started dealing with another couple checking in - we got directed straight to the kitchen, being told to feel free to make ourselves a brew & she'd be with us as soon as she'd finished her other check-in - which she was, and was very helpful. She and one of her colleagues were very busy all evening with people arriving, but were clearly around and on hand to help. Our whole stay was comfortable, the beds are very sturdy and really comfy. All areas were clean and tidy. The kitchen was slightly crowded on our 1st night and 1st morning as it was so busy, however it was workable. Well equipped kitchen too. The hostel is also really well located - not far from shops, restaraunts etc. Thank you Heb Hostel for our stay, we enjoyed it. …
