#3 of 6 hotels in Stornoway
Travellers' Choice
Stornoway's most historic hotel, the Royal nestles in the heart of Stornoway, beside the marina, where you can relax, enjoy the hotel's cosy character and enjoy dining in our Boatshed Restaurant or in HS1, the town's 1st cafe bar.If on business, you'll probably appreciate free wireless internet access available throughout the hotel. What matters so much more than bricks and mortar, though, is the warmth of the welcome and the friendly, easy service you'll receive - for the Hebrides has a great tradition of hospitality. While the Royal Hotel enjoys a delightful view over the colourful, bustling harbour to the splendour of Lews Castle and its grounds. The town centre is only around 200 metres walk.

We booked a double room with a view of the marina. Our bed was comfortable and the room was although a little smaller than we expected was good. The rooms do need to be updated but were clean and we would stay again. The staff was lovely and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. We would stay again.

Stayed for 1 night in the middle of a motor bike trip. Friendly staff, great restaurant, comfortable room. Ample & secure parking behind the hotel. Nice place to stay in Stornoway, with some character and right on the harbour front. Book ahead for the Boat Shed restaurant.

We stayed 2 nights. Parking available in hotel car park. Covid compliant. Lovely polite service from all staff we encountered. Very friendly. Rooms were dated but comfortable. breakfasts were really tasty. Would recommend. 2 restaurants in hotel. The Boatshed and HS1. Same menu which was varied. Amazing food and drink. Best to book.

Very popular with residents and non residents alike in the very modern dining areas. Food was great, good variety. Staff were very busy and seemed short numbered, doing the best they could. Very friendly and helpful. Room was of an average size and more dated than the dining areas. There is only limited onsite parking which operates on a first come, first served basis. Like all hotels at the moment there is no room service.

We booked 2 nights and were given the impression that there would be parking only to be asked to park at the offices across the road. The room was small and basic there was no maid service so the room was not cleaned during our stay nor were the beds made this was due to covid restrictions, which seems ridiculous. We had to ask for additional toiletries. We had dinner in the hotel on the first nice which was really tasty however the service was incredibly slow we waited 20 minutes for our drinks to be brought to the table. ( we could see them on the bar) Breakfast had to be pre booked and left with reception our order was not given to the kitchen. The waitress was quite rude when she said we had not bothered to order. (not the case) We were then brought a very dried out breakfast the Stornoway black pudding was brick hard, bacon like leather. After I complained the second days breakfast was a vast improvement. Nice enough hotel but if you can't offer the full service due to covid then don't charge full price.
