Ideal location for visits to the Isle of Iona, Staffa & Treshnish. Enjoy traditional home cooked meals, using local produce, with Lamb/Beef from our farm, locally caught fish and home grown vegetables, then relaxing in the lounge by the fire watching the sunset.

Gillian was an excellent host. The accommodation was clean and tidy. We loved the view from our bedroom window. Great to see the spring lambs. Ideal spot to see the island and travel to Iona. Highly recommended. Great holiday.

This B&B hosted by Ann MacNeil is very welcoming and friendly! Much of the food for breakfast come fresh that day from the family farm. Each part of the property has great views of the Isle. You can explore the hillside and sea shore right across the road!

Gillian is a wonderful host. It felt like staying with family! She booked our Staffa trip for us and gave us great walk suggestions. A great location, lovely view and very clean. Whilst it was just bed and breakfast we were able to use the living room in the evening to sip a glass of red whilst admiring the view.

The reviews on here are pretty much all excellent, and I can see why. The cottage is lovely, spacious, spotlessly clean and well maintained. The breakfast was excellent too. But I felt we got off on the wrong foot. I never really worked out what the problem was. I did wonder if it was because we arrived a little early, but if this was the case it would have been preferable to just tell us the rooms weren't ready and ask if we could come back in an hour or two. Instead I felt I was walking on egg-shells with a host who could best be described as "a bit moody". We only stayed for one night and I am not saying the above observation was a big problem at all - I have rated it as 4 out of 5, or "very good" - the property was in a perfect location for us and the list of positives far out-weighs one fairly minor negative. Perhaps we caught her on a bad day (we all have them), perhaps we did or said something which inadvertently caused offence, but when I asked if she would mind restarting her Wi-Fi router and was told "Why should I? I'm not going to start fiddling about with it." I thought to myself "Fair enough. Then we all know where we stand." I think the last time someone spoke to me in that tone was when I was at school. I have just re-read this review of what was an otherwise fine establishment, and I'm keen that I don't want it to sound too harsh. I could go back up and edit it to tone it down a little, but then I thought "why should I? I'm not going to start fiddling about with it." Good advice indeed.

Response from Ardness, Owner at Ardness House
Responded 23 Jul 2019
Thank you for taking the time to review. I feel this was unfair to say I was moody, as all previous comments have a high regard for me, and could not be more helpful/friendly hostess. ( Just maybe it's not me that is the moody one) as when you walked into our home, in the early afternoon, I showed you to your rooms, and never said you were not welcome to come in. As for the Wi-Fi connection, which is out of my control, I had no reason to switch the router off, as it was working perfectly well for me, and your Wife was connected instantly, off which I took time to help her. You also have missed out the moment in the evening I went through to the sitting room to ask if you were connected to the Wi-Fi, and you said yes, all working fine.

A huge thank you to Gillian for accommodating my last minute booking and my generally chaotic plans. She is a very friendly and down to earth hostess and runs an exceptionally clean and comfortable bed and breakfast. I stayed in a double room with a private bathroom and this was the most comfortable bed I slept in on my whole trip; I don't think I moved once in the night! The shower was also great. The Fionnphort bus will stop outside Gillian's place on request, and with a car or a bike, it would be very convenient for either Bunesan or Fionnphort. It's also a pleasant 4 mile walk to Fionnphort if you don't mind walking on the road, which is very quiet early in the morning. I highly recommend Ardness House, and would happily stay again if my travels take me to Mull in the future.

We were in Mull for a friend's birthday in the village of Bunessan and booked bed and breakfast at Ardness House. We enjoyed first class hospitality from the owners in a spotlessly clean house. The owners are both friendly and helpful (advising us of alternative ferry services due to forecast high winds) and were flexible with the time breakfast was served given that the party was due to finish very late and most of the other guests were attending it as well. The breakfast was excellent both in terms of quality and quantity (the black pudding was especially good). Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend Ardness House to anyone planning a stay on the beautiful island of Mull and thank Gillian and family for the warm welcome and service.

Thank you Gillian for making us all so welcome. The weather could have been better but we really enjoyed our stay and it was a pity we didn’t have long enough for more chat. Breakfast was well cooked and plenty of it. It was a last minute booking and If we manage another visit I will be hoping you still offer Band B!

Friendly chatty owner who gave us very good tips. We had a king size very comfortable bed with sea view, had shower/no bath, modern bathroom, very clean, tea/coffee facilities, provided cafetiere on request. Good breakfast, facilitated omelette :) whilst the other half had a full Scottish breakfast, breakfast 8-8.15am-sadly little flexibility with this. Checkout 10am; welcoming sitting room which looked inviting. We paid more here than the other B&B we stayed in whilst in (North) Mull by £16 per couple per night, would highly recommended Blackbird Bistro in Bunessan to eat (book in advance) & the beaches of Knockvologan & Ardalanish if you stay here. We made it to Iona with ease from here also. Super location for exploring South Mull.
