Had lovely few days on the Isle of Mull, ferry from Oban to Craignure and a great stay at Shieling’s . Would highly recommend this site, straight off the ferry and pretty central to access all the island. Facilities are great, very clean and the views are to die for. Very happy customers thanks

Located on the shore with views up Loch Linnhe, all the way to Ben Nevis. Touring campsite, 2 holiday cottages, 13 unique self-catering Shielings Tents, 8 even offer ensuite facilities! We have 5 x budget bed rooms, each offering basic hostel style camping in twin beds. We are a friendly and spotlessly clean site, with Super facilities, lovely hot showers, electric hook-ups, hard standings, laundrette, games room, kitchen/dishwashing area, common room with multifuel stove and free Wi-Fi. There is also a designated campfire area with breathtaking views! Sea otters live on site, and white tailed sea eagles fly overhead. Stroll to the local pub, shop, cafe’s and buses for Tobermory and Iona (boat trips to Staffa) and ferry terminal. Walk to swimming pool, 9 hole golf course and Duart Castle. There are plenty hills to climb, including Ben More and forestry tracks throughout the island. A perfect base for touring all that this idyllic island has to offer. Escape to a better world!

We stayed during the last week in September 2020. Not having camped for a number of years our expectations were not particularly high. Upon arrival we were greeted by an extremely friendly gent who provided us with all the info we required for our stay. Our pitch was perfect, quiet with an amazing view of the sea. Shower blocks and kitchen areas were spotless. Staff were constantly cleaning the area.

We were booked into the top part of the site which does apparently provide wifi however before we booked we were well aware the Wi-Fi on Mull is not great. The connection for our mobiles phones was excellent so to be honest we did not even try the wifi.

Water in the shower blocks was always hot. The drying tent was weirdly brilliant, all clothes bone dry after hanging for the day.

Thank you for an amazing stay, will def return and hopefully book a Sheiling

We stayed here for 3 nights in one of the Shieling Tents, they are literally on the seafront, with absolutely stunning views, and right next to the ferry dock. The sheilings have beds (with a sheet, no bedding), a log burner, gas cooking stove (connected to the gas mains), shower, two sinks and a cool box.

The shower was super warm, and lovely each evening before going to bed. The gas stove was great, super clean and we cooked breakfast on it each morning. Just bring some foil and utensils.
The cool box was perfect for storing milk and beer, you could pop to the common tent and get frozen ice packs as often as you need them, you just needed to return the used ones for cleaning and re-freezing.

They will only allow smokeless fuels in the log burner, so I'd bring some kindling, firelighters and smokeless fuel with you, as it's £5 a bucket on the site, which lasted us 3hrs one evening. We tried to buy some elsewhere but didn't have any luck.

There isn't huge amounts nearby, there's a spa 15min drive away, and a slaughter house about 10min away where we got delicious sausages and bacon from.

It was cold, even in August, so bring layers as the temperature is cooler on the island. The play park was really good also, best for under 10s, with lovely views of the sea also.

We'd definitely recommend staying here, and really enjoyed our trip.

We stayed for three nights in Cruachan cottage which costs £120 a night. The views from the cottage are second to none and the kitchen is well equipped.parking is at the back of the cottage and it is a short walk to the Spar shop and post office, pub, cafe, and tourist information. The ferry terminal is close by . It was lovely and quiet the whole time as there were very few campers on site. The bed was form but fine. The shower was decent but the sink and toilet need updating and the whole place could do with a lick of paint to improve the rating but we did enjoy our stay here and would stay again . The cottage was very clean and this was most reassuring. Check in is from 5pm and check out at 10 am. We could not get any WiFi signal as there was a password for the booster that was not available, this did not bother us too much as we used the good 4G signal.

We arrived on Monday and got booked in at reception which is only open to coincide with ferry arrivals. We were told where our pitch was and where to park. We had booked a pitch with nearby parking only to find you cannot park next to your pitch even to unload or load up. This meant umpteen trips to and fro to get all the gear in the tent which was best part of 100 yds away, not a good start. Twice now the hot water has gone off on the top field which we were in, meaning we had to walk down to the lower field for showers. The lower field is busier and I had to queue for the shower, only 2 people allowed in the toilet/ shower block. There is a massive difference in the toilet blocks on the top field and bottom field. The top field is tents with a sheet dividing men’s and ladies, no electric sockets or mirrors, 3 toilets and only 1 shower, it’s just as well it’s not busy as there is nowhere near enough facilities had there been more people . I’ve read reviews dating back to 2018 commenting on how bad the top field facilities are and obviously nothing has been done about it. The bottom field has a building with 3 showers and 3 toilets but not all in use due to covid, mirrors, coat hangers, hairdryer and electric sockets. There is antibacterial cleaning products in the common room but not in the toilets or shower which I feel should be provided in the current situation. There is hand gel when it’s full. WiFi is apparently available to use on site, but you cannot get connected.
It’s not a cheap site and we are really disappointed with it as we feel it’s not worthy of its 4 star rating by the Scottish tourist board.
In general it’s a site of 2 halves with the lower site being superior. We’ll be coming back to Mull at some point in the future but won’t be staying here.

Myself and a friend booked the shielling tents for our 3 night stay on Mull and it exceeded all expectations. Rooms were spacious for a tent with toilet, shower and cooking facilities also included in the back of the tent. The front area was spacious with a wood burning fire and overlooked the water where the ferries come in. The campsite was very well kept and the tent itself looked after and very clean. Thanks for a great stay!

I don't know where Kenneth M stayed but it wasn't at Shielings.
We have been coming on holiday to Mull for around 14 years and Shielings is one of the best places to stay, if you are camping, campervanning.
Explore and you will see otters, seals, all sorts of birds, (you could sit in your van and see most of these)
From the site you can launch a canoe and easy paddle the coastline down to Duart Castle, jump on a bike and take the side roads that are almost clear of traffic, there is a cycle hire place just next door.
Craignure pub across the road serves good beers and tasty food.
The site is well laid out with clean facilities plenty of electric hook ups and fresh water available on most pitches.
Right next to the ferry terminal (but far enough away for comfort.)
I could go on, but go see for yourself

The site is in a brilliant spot with the views from the tents just magnificent.

The tents were great for our family (of five). The facilities exceeded what was on the website with the tents having their own good shower, a two ring stove and coolbox provided. The nearby communal tent also had a kettle, cooking facilities, vending machine and TV.

The site felt nicely spread out, so there was plenty of space and grass available which kids could use to play.

A great base from which to explore Mull.

Review of Shieling Holidays Mull

Second visit to this location. during the first visit we camped and were blown away by the facilities. This time we booked one of the superb sheilings. There is little to add to the location, simply awesome. It seems a bit pointless commenting on the accomodation as there is a large upgrading project on the go at the moment. We booked one of the smaller "Sheilings" and found ourselves in a large 2 roomed, 4 bed, ensuite "tent". I use the word tent very loosely as it felt nothing like a canvas shelter. I had a very comfortable stay.

I have to commet on the fact I had a disabled child who was able to explore the campsite better than anywhere I have stayed previousy.

The staff (one particular gent whos name i am ashemed i cannot recall) were amazing. I cannot see any occastion why a stay on mull would not include the Sheilings

The new accomodation being created will provide centrally heated, fully insulated (listened too much to the gent at reception!!!!) accomodation and I for one cannot wait to try it out. If you are visting Mull, this location is prefect, easy access to Tobermory and Fionnphort (ferry to Iona) and has its own pebble beach. Cannot wait to retun

Firstly I want to clarify that we were here in a campervan. The site offers several accomodation types so this review is for the campervan/motorhome experience.

On arrival we were struck by the motorhomes/campervans being largely placed on rough gravel near the reception and amenities building. They were pretty tightly packed, and it resembled a car park. Those on the waterfront would probably have decent views as long as they didn't turn round. That was not our experience however. We were placed in bay 36, which is next to reception. When we saw the bay, our heart sank. It was right next to a pile of junk like Steptoe's Yard (see pic).
We were booked for 3 nights, but lasted one. We cut our losses and found a much much nicer site.

Sure it's a handy location for the ferry - and some motorhome users seem happy to sit in a car park and watch the telly. Not for us.
Toilets were pretty clean and everyone was pleasant and stuff which accounts for the rating.

Spotless shower block, which makes all the difference when camping/touring. Fastidious about mask wearing indoors and hand sanitising. So felt very safe staying here. Good location, next to ferry terminal. Lovely, quiet campsite. Would recommend.

Hi there, apologies for the delay in our response to your question regarding refrigeration for campers. Unfortunately we do not have a fridge, however, we do have 2 freezers in our common room, where you are welcome to freeze your freezer blocks. We do have a number of freezer blocks supplied in there for the use of our self catering Shieling Tent guests, as they are given a cool box rather than a fridge within their accommodation, and require to swap their freezer blocks in and out to maintain a cool temperature within their cool boxes, so you would also be welcome to swap your freezer blocks in and out as required. Many thanks, and we look forward to welcoming you some day.
