Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here 1 night while traveling the West Coast. Room had everything you needed, including a superb view. Room 6. Because the dreaded midge come in through the open windows, there is a roof fan/light to help you keep cool. That was an added bonus in the middle of the night. Ensuite had a lovely hot powerful shower. Nobody bothered you. Breakfast was a Continental choice, with plenty on offer.parking at door.

The room was recently designed and furbished with modern comfort and an excellent shower room. The breakfast room has superb views down towards the sea. Whilst it is very near to the road onto Skye it is very quiet but with evening meals available within 2 miles.

Our hostess was very helpful in settling us in and getting us out and about on our tour of the Isle of Skye before the rain descended. Good advice to help us choose our route. Well versed on the time frame and also sites we would encounter. Easy walk to at least three restaurant choices for dinner. Breakfast was very nice, and the view from the breakfast area was simply glorious. Onsite private parking is a wonderful bonus!

We enjoyed our stay at Blairdhu House. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Especially the breakfast was excellent with a perfect view over Kyleakin. It was a 10 minute walk away from the town centre and really quite. As we live normally in a big city, it was perfect for us and we enjoyed the evening walk to our location very much.

We stayed here for 3 nights during a tour of the west coast and although there is nothing wrong at all with this guesthouse, we did not think that it offered good value. This is mainly due to the size of our bedroom which wasn't particularly spacious and the location, which is very much on the outskirts of the town. The guesthouse is very clean and nicely furnished, the breakfast room is light and spacious and the breakfasts were also of a decent standard, but not the best we enjoyed on our trip. We did not appreciate the laminated set of rules in the bedroom.

The Blairdhu House was decorated plainly and simply in a non descriptive way, but it was not a complete disappointment, because, after all, it’s on the Isle of Skye! Pros- The communal room was quite comfortable and had a lovely view. The breakfast was delicious, fresh, and plentiful. Cons- You felt isolated from the staff because they were in a separate closed off area so you had to ring a buzzer and wait for someone to appear from a closed door if you needed some assistance. There was not much interaction with the guests so hospitality was a bit lacking. The room and bathroom was small and the only window in our room nearly abutted a row of high hedges that had millions of “midges” buzzing around it. So if we opened the window even a crack they swarmed in, and even though they are tiny, their bite/sting hurts and itches. Needless to say, we most likely would not make a second appearance here.

Made an on-line booking on 02.04.2018 for stay on 16.05.2018. Plans changed and had to cancel the booking within 24 hours. Responded via the link on the booking form, have full evidence in my e-mail account of the e-mail having gone. They took the £240 from my Credit Card for a non-arrival. Phoned upon receipt of my credit card statement, sent a copy of my cancellation e-mail only to receive a response that accused me of being a liar stating that their IT person did not believe the e-mail to be legitimate. Not the best Customer Service. I have now had to involve MasterCard in raising a Dispute Claim to get my money back. Something most of us do not have the time in our busy lives to be bothering with, but at £240 I sure as hell am not going to let this one go.

Response from fon28, Owner at Blairdhu House
Responded 11 Jun 2018
“The problem with TripAdvisor, the Business has always the right of reply. Comments stay on here forever. Though, I would have preferred to discuss this privately, Ms Ketcher has left me no option, as she makes untrue comments about my Business”. ……………………… Actually you made the reservation on the 2nd April 2018, for your stay on the 15th May, not 16th as you state in your review. Susan Ketcher you reserved two rooms for the 15th May on our online booking system, dated 2nd April, soon as this is registered you automatically receive a confirmation. (which you received). You state that you sent an email on the 3rd of April to cancel. Which we did not receive at Blairdhu House. When guests make a cancellation, it is logged straight away on our online system and you receive a cancellation confirmation automatically, we also receive a duplicate. (just like you do when you make a booking). We also log it on our paper filing system. We rarely get cancellations so it is quite impossible for errors to be made. As this reservation was on our opening day of the season for 2018, we only take three rooms for the first two days. Two of them were booked by Susan Ketcher. If you had cancelled you would have received a confirmation, we asked you to send this, but you could not. You said you did not receive one….if this is the case: Why did you not think….if I received a confirmation for my stay…where is my cancellation confirmation!!!! You say you sent the cancellation email within 24 hours of making your booking. This would have been fresh in your memory. Not once in all that time did you contact us for a cancellation confirmation. Nearly nine weeks you waited before contacting us. Remember this was the beginning of April and you did not contact us until June. This is when you said you got your card statement, noticing the debit from Blairdhu House. This is when you realised you forgot to cancel. You could not send us a cancellation copy. (because you never had one). So you sent us an email with the heading showing the date of 3rd April. Like the one I have just written as an example below: From: Your name Sent: 03 April 2018 21:58 To: our email address Subject: Cancellation We asked you twice by phone and email to send the original copy that you said you sent on the 3rd April, but you could not. When you forward an email from its original date it as distinct marking showing it was the original….the one you sent was not, it was written on the day you realised your mistake. It states very clearly in our Terms and Conditions, if you are a no-show you are charged the full price. We waited up until late for your arrival, we also left a note on the door just incase you arrived after mid-night. We are a small business and cannot afford to sit with empty rooms because of your mistake. In your review you quote: “most of us do not have the time in our busy lives to be bothering with”………yet……..you did not have the time to check for your cancellation confirmation….. but you have plenty time to join Tripadvisor and write this review.

. We stayed here on our 10 trip round Scotland. I can honestly say this was the best place we stayed. From the moment of our arrival until departure, Fiona & Jade could not have been more helpful. Situated in a beautiful spot above a river, with a truly spectacular view. Rooms were perfect, with lots of nice touches. Breakfast was superb, with lots of choices on the buffet, plus a menu with further choices, we were actually spoiled for choice. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend. After looking at some of the reviews, I would say that if you are looking for a B&B where you stay and mingle with the owners, this place is not for you. The owners have their private accommodation totally separated from guests, it’s actually like two houses joined together. We thought it was a brilliant idea and had not seen a B&B like it before. It felt like a small hotel, with the cosy feel of a B&B, absolutely loved it.

This was the most expensive of the many b&b's we stayed in during our 12 day tour of Scotland but definitely the most disappointing. The very pleasant daughter of the house received us but was non forthcoming with local information, particularly as regards eateries, and then the room was tiny with a high hedge almost next to the window preventing any views from, or light into the room, The shower room was even meaner in size, hardly big enough for one person, two people at the same time an impossibility. The breakfast was alright but the first time we saw our host was as we were leaving and she wanted our money.
